  1. Okay, here's my deal... I've been quiet all year because I haven't decided whether any models will get built this year. That said, I've assembled a chassis from the '84 GMC Plow Truck and have been goofing with some bodies. I'll declare my entry if I feel like somethings actually going to happen. The entries I've been seeing so far have been well thought out and executed. What folks have been showing so far is very exciting.
  2. My foggy recollection of them from the time was that they were prone to transmission failures. It was lore that made their resale values plummet. Mopar fans might refute this, but that's how I remember it.
  3. 1. Only risk as much as you're willing to lose. 2. Less is more.
  4. I LOVE that thing. I don't $25G love it, but I'm a big fan of "found objects" art.
  5. Now THAT's a cool idea. I know the picture you're referring to. Very cool.
  6. Luscious! White walls, tint. Even window gaskets. Mm-hmm.
  7. Just got back from a few days away and am troubled to hear your news. Based on what I've witnessed recently with a friend, the good news is I'm confident you'll beat this, so much is in your favor. The bad news is your year is gonna suck. So forge ahead, push through and move on. It's just another chapter in your story. Your family and friends will take care of you until everything's back to normal.
  8. You, however, might actually get them all built. Your production rate is probably the highest on the forum, yet no sign of taking shortcuts. We should all aspire to your level of accomplishment.
  9. After leaving 13-years in radio and TV news I do outdoor advertising design and layout, ad writing and consulting.
  10. I too, agree the answers here pretty much sum it up. That said, I enter shows with some confidence I'll not be a winner. I build to my comfort and pleasure level and believe they stand up well on the show table. But I'll bring whatever I've got just to be supportive of the host club by adding numbers to the tables. Strive for "show quality" but don't let that inhibit you from participating in shows. Most entrants and visitors still just like seeing models.
  11. I looked into it once. Ultimately still too expensive. Though they are still perfecting a shiny finish, for now it's going to be dull. Crazyjim will NOT be Plasti Dipping.
  12. I think the pact has been sealed by the time that happens. Before cars are even publicly available, I've often wondered why they all seem to be of the same thought during the national auto shows. Do car makers have conventions to share ideas and solidify the future of the industry before they invest in production? A year after the jelly-bean Taurus, competitors had similar products. They can't whip up new cars from scratch in a year as a response to the success of a competitor. Seems there's got to be something else going on besides just anticipating future trends to account for synchronized sameness.
  13. What is this caged lair you call... how do you say... "sub-WAY?"
  14. Ooh, I like that idea. Especially when it comes with a testimonial. It's a big gun so I"ll still entertain other thoughts.
  15. Is there something easier than sanding to roughen/prep plastic to receive paint? Ideally, I'm looking for something like a dip that might etch or dull the plastic. I'm actually considering steampunking a toy gun but don't want to sand around all the details. Need not recommend lacquer thinner.
  16. For my tastes, that's about as nice as I've ever seen this model get built. A home run.
  17. Geez Chuck, you've really got that weathering dialed in. I like your discriminating two-tone color choice too.
  18. Do you paint outside then bring it into a comfy air conditioned room? If so, rather than condemn the plastic, I would consider condensation and humidity. Especially after the weather most of the country has had the last two or three weeks.
  19. Another case in point. Ford announces thirteen F-150 colors for 2015 including four new ones.
  20. That's the biggest setback. Losing that feature makes almost all the other recent upgrades just window dressing. But I digress... I'm just glad this forum is here.
  21. My first bike that I could call my own (rather than family hand-me-downs) was a Ross Barracuda. I didn't know that until now though, because I bought it refurbished from a bike shop and all the badging was gone after a green repaint. I didn't like the gears, it was harder to get up and go when my brother's Sting Ray had great off the line speed.
  22. Yup. That's a honey.
  23. Yes, other products. I got that quote from a carpet vendor. "You can have your carpet in any color you want, as long as it's beige."
  24. Was it the automotive buyer looking for more neutral colors or the auto industry trying to cut expenses? Maybe a combination of both? Either way, what excites almost everybody about old cars, even non car enthusiasts, are the colors. How sad that almost everything over time gets whittled down to the lowest common denominator.
