Wen the Slant Six from R evell was completed a group of
Revell employees met at a service station in El Monte Califoenia to test is out..It was fully assembeled
with the valve cover left off. The electric motor ( a drill ) was then attached to the tailshaft AND TURNED ON. "The RPM's of the motor were slowly increased an the engine finely broke down when it it an eccess of 11,000 RPM. This was accomplised by not using the radiator. I big pile of oil cans, with their lids off, were dumped onto the engine while it was running ( neatness didnt count ). The only reason why the engine finaly failed was the fact that the camshaft had snapped in two.

I am surprised that card playing is not prominent in our other hobbies. I consider myself a cardshark for sure. My three most favorite games are hearts, spades and cribbage. I do play other card games, just as I build customs and drag cars but I do have favorites.

I must agree with all of the negative thoughts on the subject of bringing back all of the old kits. What I find surprising is the nonchalant thoughts of the companies such as AMT and Revell in keeping track of the molds. To duplicate these molds, in todays economy, would be in the neighborhood of $250,000 ( $50,000 ) back in the 1960,s )

Back in the middle 60's Revell offered a WW II german fighter plane model with the proper swastika design in the decal sheet. They were immediately flooded with letters complaining about the use of the swastika. Revell, bowing to the public's concern, changed the decal sheet to eliminate the swastika. That done, Revell received even more letters of complaint about the model not being authentic because of the deletion of the swastika. The letters in favor, out numbered those who were against and once more the decal was changed to be correct. DAMNED IF YOU DO AND DAMNED IF YOU
DON'T. You can't change history. If a decal has something you don't like,..................don't buy the kit or at the very least, throw the dacal in the waste basket.

This is an old kit and the mold is wearing out. Everytime it is re-released ( different manufacturer or just offered again ) the parts fit shows problems. The original IMC kit was great with little problem in the "parts fitting" catagory. The biggest problen that I had on my last build was the fit between the hood and the windshield cowl area. It was fixable but took a little effort. Generally it is a good kit and worthy of the efforts needed to complete it.

On another web site ( Coffin Corner ) there is a fund raising effort going on. To learn about the program go to "your living legacy.com". We have an opportunity to help the less fortunate families with "challenged children". It is not often that we can join in with other model car nuts and be part of a humanitarium effort to help others less fortunate than ourselves.
There are two ways thast we cn help:
#1 go to the buy/sell section of Coffin Corner and bid on what is being offered or :
#2 offer something for the auction.
Participating in this movement should cause no one any great problems and it gives us the chance to be "good guys". If any one has any question on this, shoot me a PM and I will fill you in on all of the details. This is a worthy cause, lets show the members of Coffin Corner our support.

Just a reminder to all the members here within "ear-shot" of Portland ,Oregon. Comeing up soon 0n April 19th Scale Auto Builders Association ( SABA ) will hold their 17th ( I think ) annual NNL. We are looking for about 250 models for the display, including best senior, best junior, peoples choice and SABA's choice. On the swap meet part of the NNL we have already sold 30 tables and there could be several more be for the show itself.
Let me know if you need more info on the meet.

OK people, here is the latestnew from the dinosaur himself. I 'm not eating right, my stomach feels terrible but the let me out of the hospital this afternoon. the good news is that apparently all of the cancer has been removed, according to all the tests including the biopsies. According to all of my doctors, this is not supposed to happen. BUT IT DID. I will post any changes, good or bad.

He appreciates your comments and good wishes.

I am not the prolific poster here on MCM that some of you are, but, I still feel as though I am a member of the family. Probably due to smoking for over 50 years ( I quit 4 years ago ), I have been diagnosed with lung cancer. That is the BAD news. The GOOD news is that the cancer, according to all of the tests, has not spread even a llittle bit ( sorta like being almost pregnant ). The four mdical guys that are taking care of me say that I am a medical oddity. Lets emphazise the word "medical" and not the "oddity". I have known about this problem for about 4 months but wanted to wait until all of the info was available. The surgery will be performed in the morning of March 5 th. All the doctors feel that recovery is just a matter of time ( short, I hope ) so "history will just have to wait LOL.

Bob, you are most certainly a member of the family here, & to the car modeling fraternity worldwide. I hope everything works out fine & you can be sure I will keep you in my thoughts.
Though this does sound bad, it's good that it was caught when it was & that your doctors are so confident. I just found out last weekend that you're supposed to be a guest at the KC contest this summer, & my wife & I have discussed coming down to KC for it, so you have to get better, so I can meet one of the legends of our hobby!
As to being an oddity, well hey, my wife calls me that every day!!
I will be there for the KC Slammer thingie, rest assured, so everyone better get there too, OK ?

Bob Did you Hic-cup?? three times..LOL..
Looking forward to seeing you at the Heartland contest In KC In June.. Maybe you remember me?? from NNL west many Moons ago.. when you received a Lifetime award..
You Had teasr In your eyes.. that was a special Moment for you..
Cruzn, your post brought back very fond memories. I will always remember that day. Even my wife was present when I received the award. It was totaly unexpected and very gracious of the NNL West group. I met so many builders there at the NNL West, its hard to remember them all. I hope to recognize you at the Slammers thing in JUne, but, just in case, hit me along side the head if I have a blank stare when you say hello

Regardless of how, or what method one uses to fabricate an exhaust system, it is important to remember that different vehicles use different diameters of pipe. For example, compare the size of a VW Beetle or other snall car with a big black Chevy pickup ( maybe 1 1/2 " vs 3 " ?. the most important thing is the "bottom line" that I use ...................is it a scale "look good" ?
