Candy Brandywine...

Some of today's factory paint jobs would have been called custom way back when. The Mazda is a perfect example. IMO Mike -
Gloss clear lacquer what are you using
Mike 1017 replied to stevez's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I decant the paint into a small bottle and put it into a cup with about a half inch of hot water. Once it looks like the bubbles are gone, I screw the cap onto the bottle and shake it to make sure the bubbles are gone. It only takes about 5 minutes to gas out. Mike -
My point is that there is not enough surface on a spoon to get an accurate feed back We've developed this massive, high impact Polystyrene Speed Shape to give you the best possible surface for testing and display. The larger surface area and curves, over our original Speed Shapes, will help bring out some of the colors and finish details that could be too subtle to notice on the smaller shapes. Mike

What did you see on the road today?
Mike 1017 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I will check it out. The south is infamous for rebuilding flood damaged cars, total wrecks, and odometer fraud. I went with a friend to check out a used 1989 Mustang. I insisted that the car be put up on a rack so we could look at. It had rusted drivers' floor pan and had plywood placed under the carpet to hide the holes in the floor pan. The right wheel well was rusted through, and it looked like some sort of steel wool was shoved into holes. Last but not least the oil pan drain plug was stripped. The car looked great detailed out to the max. Buyer beware!!! -
As always, a beautiful build Mike

Candy Brandywine...
Mike 1017 replied to Straightliner59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that Kandy Brandywine and Kandy Apple Red are iconic colors that will never go away. Pastels {Miami Vice} and gray tweed interiors. And these wheels. Are fads that went away. -

I am a little late for comments. A 440 Super Bee for $34,900? There has gotta be some major issues with that car. All of his cars seem to be under valued -

I use Speed Shapes when I am experimenting with any sort of paint and primer combo. IMO plastic spoons are too small and not enough surface area. Example the spoon does not craze. Then you paint the car. Parts of the hood crazes and nothing else. The Speed Shapes are only a couple of dollars. They are as a big as a 1:24 body or a little more. Mike

What is the next option?
Mike 1017 replied to TarheelRick's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Fat Brian is right. Use an automotive primer and see what happens. If the primer does craze Splash Paint has 1k and 2k primer Mike -
Using The swimming pool is the best PT for me. I used it after rotator surgery. Later today I may go to the pool. It's kinda hard to explain. When I am in the pool my whole body feels great. For me this is a lot better than PT exercises and weightlifting. Try the pool!!! Mike

My heart goes out to you guys with all of your pain and suffering. I feel kinda ashamed complaining about my problem compared to what others are going through. Tuesday, I have an appointment with a neurologist. My doctor wants to make sure that this sciatica is not a symptom of spine problems. Good luck to all of you. Old geezer Mike

On June 21st I went to the emergency room because I had such pain from my Butt Cheek down to my knee. I was diagnosed with Sciatica. I have heard of it but never experienced it. My doctor prescribed a steroid pack, muscle relaxer, pain medicine, and physical therapy. Today 7/15 is the first day with no pain and I can walk as normal. I had to put up with this pain for almost 25 days. Anyone else have had the pleasure of dealing with this and how long did it take to get back to normal activities? Mike P.S. I WOULD wish this on my worst enemy!!!

My Dad has Alzheimer's, and he's forgotten where I live.
Mike 1017 replied to stavanzer's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My brother-in-law is 61 and was diagnosed with dementia 5 years ago. The medical care that he is getting has slowed the progression of the disease, but he will never be cured. A big problem for my sister-in-law is that Ron is still active. He emptied every draw in the kitchen looking for his shoes, he went out and mowed the neighbor's lawn. Wandered away from the house for 2 hours. When the police found him, he was so de-hydrated, and sun burned they took him to the hospital. He has had a lot of mishaps at home. There are a lot of ponds, small rivers, and swamp land in Florida where they live. If he wanders off, he could be attacked by an alligator, bitten by a rattlesnake or drown. Now the all the doors have electronic locks and Ron wears a GPS bracelet. As Ron says "This is one evil disease" Mike -

Very nice build. Great paint job. I have used transparent paints on some of my cars. -

I did some more digging. the cartoonist Russ Meyers bought the car new. Here is the story on Hemmings . https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2014/06/02/numbers-matching-1971-plymouth-hemi-cuda-heads-to-auction

This is a replica of the $3.5m Cuda sold at Mecum Seatle 2014. The most expensive Cuda in the lineup but no options! No sport mirrors, no console, no spoiler, no pb or ps. Not 1. Drag Race a convertible? I can't find anything about the original owner. Plymouth did beef up the frame on Hemi convertibles. Drive the PCH top down. Oops too fast for that curve. This is box stock, painted with Scale Finishes Bright Blue, tires, wheels, hub caps and tire decals all from Fireball. Looks like I did not chrome the sill.

I have been looking at E cars. The range depends on how many options you are using. My main concern is road trips and the availability of charging stations. There are plenty of horror stories about 2-3 hour charging times. Missed reservations, parties, airline flights and so on and so on. Tesla has the most stations and is building more. Thier pick up is one I would consider buying. Mike
