I like the way you got the interior and engine to fit the body, looks almost OEM. I always liked the grill area on this model of Torino.

What is out there for a 57 chevy wagon
espo replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I like and have built several Resin bodied models, they are not without some draw backs. The first is to find a really good casting of what it is you want to build. For the most part the casters that have been around for a while can provide good quality castings with minimal flash and needed clean up. The clean up of the body isn't very different than what you would do with a plastic kit. In my mind the problem areas, at least the ones I've had to deal with, have todo with sanding and prepping the body for paint. You don't wan to be breathing any of the sanding dust and you really don't want that dust in your work area. The dust created from working on the resin body will interfere with painting on any plastic parts that get the dust on them. The resin body usually requires an automotive type primer so that color coats of paint will adhere. I think if you understand that there will be a little extra prep and effort in other areas the resin conversion kits are a great way to build something that the normal kit companies don't offer. -
Sorry to hear everything that has happened to that family. You will at least have this model to remember someone you obviously respected and thought a great deal of. Put it in a nice covered case and think of your friend when ever you look at it.

I have been told that creating the container and labeling for small quantity items, like paint, can cost more than the product that they contain. That said I'm pretty sure Testors is generating a substantial profit.

Resin bodies for the Revell 57 Nomad
espo replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you should go with the MCW '57 Nomad you might as well crib all the parts you can from the donor kit. The Revell chassis would be a vast improvement over the old style chassis in the original Nomad kit. -
You might try any local hobby shops that carry an after market parts selection. I'm pretty sure Round 2 is offering truck tires that may work. They're packaged much like their Good Years, Drag Slicks, and White Wall tire options. Usually they are offered as an 8 pack on the passenger car tires so that you have a set of of one size and another set of another size.

So many great features here. I like the front mounted Blower, and the Trans Axle setup is interesting. The interior components all work well together.

Hard to believe a simple basic Falcon can turn out looking this good. I've herd the saying "less is more" and that is a good description here.

Beautiful looking build and a great tribute. I hope you can get this to his widow and his son .

Very sharp clean looking build. The stripes add a different look and I like how it looks on this.

Very well done Low Ridder. I like the "mirrored" Hood. This could be a very nice daily driver.

I think either color would work on this. I like the Orange myself, but then colors in that spectrum seem attractive to me. The Blue stripes would have paid homage to the Shelby factions. A medium Green would work also. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Lotus Cortina of years ago. Not a well known car here but I'll bet some of our friends in England could provide information on that great car.

Way back when the '64 and '65 Chevelle 300 2 door wagon was released they could be ordered with any engine that was offered in any of the other models, except the '65 SS396 model. Most of the ones you find today with the high performance drive trains were ordered cars since most dealerships didn't even stock that model and if they did it was more often than not a 6 cylinder or one of the 283 V8's. That said I knew of a couple of people that did in fact order their wagons. One couple that I remember ordered one with the 275 hp 327 cu with a close ratio 4-speed and Positraction. I wish that Chevrolet had continued to offer that model for a few more years too when I bought a '66 but they're not in the business of offering something that isn't selling in great numbers.

Either the Chevelle or the Ford would make great tow vehicles, being Revell kits I would think Round 2 would have to work off of something from AMT's past. This is one of the reasons I had mentioned the '67 Impala kit they're getting ready to release would be a logical possibility. With the development of converting the 2 door Hard Top to a 4 door Hard Top going on to a wagon wouldn't be that much of a reach.

Painting chassis question
espo replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Some of those colors could be used for the inside of the trunk on some OEM type builds. -
Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware of them having an OEM Oil Cooler and that might be one of the reasons none of my friends had an over heating issue.
-
I can see how that might be an issue, especially since that appears to be much heavier than the passenger car that I was thinking of.

1963 plymouth fury

Another place to look is eBay. Most of the cars for sale will have several pictures from different angles. This may give you what your looking for. -

Google is your friend. Just put in a search for pictures of a '63 Plymouth Fury and step back from your screen as you'll receive more images than you can imagine. -
Your wright you shouldn't feel guilty about using a 40% off coupon. at HL. Look at what their list price is on a kit that can be purchased for $20 to $25 at a local stand alone hobby shop. The local HL's around here at asking $30 to $39 for the same kit. That makes that 40 % off coupon the same as a $2 or $3 savings of buying from the normal hobby shops. I still do it if they have something that I really want and it is still listed for the older pricing of around $25 list price, then it makes sense to me. Otherwise for the little difference I'll buy from my local hobby shop, or pretty soon they'll go away.

I thought this was an AMT Merc at first. Great paint finish and color. all of the trim is very cleanly done.
-
Beautiful looking Ford. The paint looks so nice it's hard to believe it wasn't cleared. All of the chrome trim looks nice and clean.
-
The paint jobs are all outstanding. The Orange '59 Hard Top really does it for me. You mentioned fitment issues with the Black Widow and I was wondering what they maybe. I have built a few of these and didn't run into anything that I can remember. The BW looks like you may have "Tubbed" it and that may offer some challenges. I would really enjoy watching these all get completed.

The seating arrangement looks interesting, I like it. The quick change differential and drive shaft too the second differential may, in the real world, offer a problem when changing the gear ratios without maybe a way to remove the drive shaft from the front to the rear differential. In this scale I don't think it will matter. This is quickly becoming a very elaborate build.
