I'm going on vacation in Florida on Mar11. Are there any good hobby stores to visit? I'll be in Orlando, Miami and in between, as well as a 2 day trip to the west coast. Thanks for any info! Cheers!

Thanks, Gerry. I have been to Tammies before and will head there again. Cheers!

I'm travelling to Vancouver, Wa. tomorrow . Does anyone know of any good hobby stores to visit? I'm willing to go about 30 mi. in any direction. Also anything within distance of the I5 up to the Canadian border. Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Today I saw a candy purple Lamborghini, red Ferrari, a pink mclaren driven by a 20 something yr old girl, a green Ferrari, multiple Porsche’s in aftermarket paint, including a 911, and a Maserati. And that was only ina couple of hours! Typical for the city of Shanghai .

Not a lot of good Hobby stores around Portland anymore. Tammies is about the best. Hobby Town on the east side but carry mostly just kits and very few accessories.
Coyote Hobby in Oregon City (on Main St) carries some kits not as many as Hobby Town but better prices.
Thanks, Jon. I'll get to Tammies and maybe Hobbytown, but I'm not going as far as Oregon City.

I don't have addresses for these but google will help you but here are my picks to check out starting in Vancouver: Magic box & Burnaby hobbies. Lynnwood washington: Galaxy hobbies and in Portland Tammies Hobby store all are very well stocked with both kits and accessories
Thanks a bunch, Russell. I'll check out Galaxy and Tammies.

Thanks for posting this article. History is important, no matter what the subject is.

Thanks for the info, Bernard. I will try it! Love your builds by the way! Keep up the great work! Cheers!

There's some very nice '32 grills done here. I'll have to get some...they sure improve the look of the car. What's the best way to get the proper bend in the centre of the grill? Thanks for any tips!

Built both. I don't remember any problems. Just the usual clean-up. Simple kits that are great slump-busters! I did break the long drag link on the Bad Medcine. I would recommend both kits and frankly any Tom Daniels' kit. I just love the imagination he brought to these kits! I say build them.

I HAVE 110 KIT,S AND COMPLETED 14 THIS YEAR BUT 90 % OF MY KITS ARE FOR PARTS , I,M BUILDING AROUND 1.5 A MONTH , THIS WILL SLOW DOWN NEXT YEAR DO TO THE FACT THAT I,M BACK TO WORK AND RECOVERED FROM A BYPASS AND BACK SURGERY , IT,S GOOD AND BAD
Blair your % is 12.73 which is really good. 14 x 100 divided by 110=12.73 Glad you're back and healthy. That is most imortant.

About 700 kits, about 60 WIPs, and actually completed 1/2 of one build so far this year.
Here's to hoping you finish a lot more in the future! That's 'cause you are one of my favourite builders. You capture the "look" that I dream about. Love seeing your stuff. Start getting busy! lol

alright all this math is making my head hurt(never was any good at it) got about 350 kits and build around 25 per year. On average I would buy about 15 kits a year but got a few extra this year,
Brett your % would be 7.14 25 x 100 divided by 350. I think that's a pretty good rate!

I have currently 46 unbuilt, 6 more that are waiting for me to have shipped, one that I just started working on, just the body is in primer, but I have completed 51 builds for the year
If I did it correctly, I am 110.86 %
You have to include the unbuilt as part of your total. So, 46 unbuilt + 51 completed = 52.58% of your 97 kits built, not including the 6 to come.
-
OK somebody do the math for me please. I have 45 kits. I've completed 7 this year
Your % works out 15.56! I'm guessing that's way higher than the average. I think some of our hoarders are afraid to put their numbers up! lol

A common situation in our hobby is we have more kits than we could ever build. Of course, that's part of the fun, huh? I wonder what other builder's "build percentage" is.
This is mine.
First, how many model kits do you own? about 1000
How many builds did you complete last year? 8
Calculate build percentage: 8 x 100 (%) divide by 1000 = .8 %
Please include your # of kits and your # of builds in your answers.
I'm at .8% ...yeeesh! I gotta crack that 1% at least! lol

I just got back from vacationing in the USA last week. (visiting relatives) I love Hobby Lobby! Picked up 2 rat roasters, Tommy Grove F/C, and a Candies & Huges F/C. Got some ground cover, bushes, flowers, and ballast for dioramas on clearance, some figures (tube people) that look to be 1/25 scale, and K&S tubing. Also on clearance I picked up a half a dozen packs of JTT plastic sheets...double diamond plate and bricks. And I didn't have time to "window shop". lol The kits are pretty much 1/2 the price of the ones north of the border!

Thanks, Eric and Brandon. I saw B & B...do they sell any aftermarket stuff? Cheers!

Hi. Can anyone recommend any hobby stores from Spokane, Wa. to Portland, Or.? I'll be travelling that route tomorrow. It's a chance to visit some hobby shops that I normally don't get a chance to see. Thanks for any suggestions.

Very cool build! I'd prefer mags or 10 spokes up front as my personal choice. I'd like to build one this nice. How did you make your hinges for the doors?

I've gone from the west coast to Lawrence, Mass. for a show, but my main purpose for flying east was to visit my son at B.U. It sure was a hi-light to see some of the top builders of the east coast, though! I managed to snag a 69 Shirley Shahan AMX (a holy grail?) that I have never seen in my area. I have driven about a 150 mi so far and hope to do a 6-7 hr drive to a show next year with the wifey. (could be expensive...she loves to shop!) I also hope to plan a vacation around an NNL show (which one would people suggest?) perhaps next year or this fall/winter.

I built as a kid. I introduced models to both my boys. They both built some but when the girls showed up ....they gone! Funny thing was, it reminded me of how much fun I had...so it kept me in the hobby to this day. Now, when I do grandpa daycare, I usually take a kit I'm working on with me and go after it when my grand daughter takes her nap. When she awakes she always wants to help build and plays with the wheels. She's almost 3 and we recently built the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine together, which she always plays with!
My wife is supportive always suggesting we buy new display cases for the models and will make nice comments like... that's cool...nice paint...that's clever...wow that's really good! I think I'll keep her!! lol
