  1. Not a lot of good Hobby stores around Portland anymore. Tammies is about the best. Hobby Town on the east side but carry mostly just kits and very few accessories.

Coyote Hobby in Oregon City (on Main St) carries some kits  not as many as Hobby Town but better prices.

Thanks,  Jon.  I'll get to Tammies and maybe Hobbytown,  but I'm not going as far as Oregon City.

  2. I don't have addresses for these but google will help you but here are my picks to check out starting in Vancouver: Magic box & Burnaby hobbies. Lynnwood washington: Galaxy hobbies and in Portland Tammies Hobby store all are very well stocked with both kits and accessories

Thanks a bunch,  Russell.  I'll check out Galaxy and Tammies.

  3. I HAVE 110 KIT,S AND COMPLETED 14 THIS YEAR BUT 90 % OF MY KITS ARE FOR PARTS , I,M BUILDING AROUND 1.5 A MONTH , THIS WILL SLOW DOWN NEXT YEAR DO TO THE FACT THAT I,M BACK TO WORK AND RECOVERED FROM A BYPASS AND BACK SURGERY , IT,S GOOD AND BAD

Blair your % is 12.73 which is really good. 14 x 100 divided by 110=12.73 Glad you're back and healthy. That is most imortant.

  4. A common situation in our hobby is we have more kits than we could ever build. Of course, that's part of the fun, huh? I wonder what other builder's "build percentage" is.

    This is mine.

First, how many model kits do you own? about 1000

How many builds did you complete last year? 8

    Calculate build percentage: 8 x 100 (%) divide by 1000 = .8 %

Please include your # of kits and your # of builds in your answers.

I'm at .8% ...yeeesh! I gotta crack that 1% at least! lol

  5. I just got back from vacationing in the USA last week. (visiting relatives) I love Hobby Lobby! Picked up 2 rat roasters, Tommy Grove F/C, and a Candies & Huges F/C. Got some ground cover, bushes, flowers, and ballast for dioramas on clearance, some figures (tube people) that look to be 1/25 scale, and K&S tubing. Also on clearance I picked up a half a dozen packs of JTT plastic sheets...double diamond plate and bricks. And I didn't have time to "window shop". lol The kits are pretty much 1/2 the price of the ones north of the border!

  6. I've gone from the west coast to Lawrence, Mass. for a show, but my main purpose for flying east was to visit my son at B.U. It sure was a hi-light to see some of the top builders of the east coast, though! I managed to snag a 69 Shirley Shahan AMX (a holy grail?) that I have never seen in my area. I have driven about a 150 mi so far and hope to do a 6-7 hr drive to a show next year with the wifey. (could be expensive...she loves to shop!) I also hope to plan a vacation around an NNL show (which one would people suggest?) perhaps next year or this fall/winter.

  7. I built as a kid. I introduced models to both my boys. They both built some but when the girls showed up ....they gone! Funny thing was, it reminded me of how much fun I had...so it kept me in the hobby to this day. Now, when I do grandpa daycare, I usually take a kit I'm working on with me and go after it when my grand daughter takes her nap. When she awakes she always wants to help build and plays with the wheels. She's almost 3 and we recently built the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine together, which she always plays with!

My wife is supportive always suggesting we buy new display cases for the models and will make nice comments like... that's cool...nice paint...that's clever...wow that's really good! I think I'll keep her!! lol
