  1. I used a combination of hair spray and Elmers white glue (for the big spots) underneath the topcoat, then chipped away at it. I got the hairspray technique from one of Cranky's videos IIRC.
  2. Would you mind posting a link? I can't find it anywhere.
  3. My eyes are starting to hurt just from looking at the pictures... Can't believe the detail that can be packed into such a small package.
  4. Just started a new build last week, decided to do something a little less polished and rebuild and old model of mine, rat style. I started with a box of partially assembled and badly painted parts, stripped them with easy off and got to work. This is my first time simulating rust and rot, but after reading about different techniques and experimenting a bit I feel I have a pretty good handle on it. What I started with: Stripped, dented, and "rusted": As it sits today: Body was painted with Flat brown, coated with spots of elmers glue and hairsray, then shot with sage green. Rust spots were opened with tooth picks and sandpaper and detailed with drybrushed flat tan and tobacco dust. Next I have to modify the frame, bed, and interior tub to get it sitting lower.
  5. Thanks for all the input, looks like I'll just have to wait until I'm skilled enough to take on an expensive kit.
  6. Thanks for all the kind words. As far as the rustoleum goes, you can get a great finish using it with careful prep work and several light coats. Its really easy to go too thick with it and it has a 9 hour dry time at low temp, so a dust-free spraying and drying area is a must. I've used it before on other applications, this is my first time spraying a model with it. My original plan was to use duplicolor laquer because its more forgiving to use and gives a great finish, but the primer I had wasn't compatible with it so I decided to give the enamel a shot.
  7. Edited original post for clarification, I always forget about the other Daytona.
  8. After a quick search I saw that this has been brought up before, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything new about a 64/65 shelby daytona coupe kit being worked on. I've been wanting to build one since I started modelling, but I can't justify spending nearly 200 on the HRM kit right now.
  9. Thank you. I found the can, it's Rustoleum 7762 "Sunrise Red".
  10. Hey all, first post here. Just finished my first kit after a 6 year break from the hobby, and I have to say it feels good to bust out the glue and enamel again. The only thing its missing are the tire decals, which I'll have to add later if I can find some in my parts boxes. The paint is rustoleum enamel (Sunrise Red) over duplicolor primer.
