  1. Actually, that kit and all of the AMT '70s Ford pickup kits (regardless of year) are F-350 "Camper Specials". That's why the rear end is seven inches farther to the rear than a normal long wheel base. That's the major complaint everyone has regarding this kit. Myself especially. It does have the wrong springs for the front.

this is very true. i just associate with the f-150 because of the front coil springs. i have no idea why they picked the f-350 with its set back rear end to do a model of. i think this was the least desired truck in the f series back then. i could be wrong . but you don't see many of them around and i have had several my self.

  2. I'm confused Kevin. The grille you probably have has the "Singular " Rectangle headlamps , standard on ALL 1979 Ford trucks regardless of the series . The same grille was used on the Ford's in 1978 also . Now , the difference really comes into play where only the "Ford Custom " series was concerned in 1978. This series was a line devoid of chrome trim anywhere on the truck . These trucks used the Round singular lamps . I own a 78 Ford Custom and I have Shop manuals for most ford trucks going back to 1949 ......................

what would you be confussed about? 1978 had round head lamps . 79 had rectangle. now in late 76 on the f-250 they went from an divorce transfer case to a married one.the kit i am building originally came as a half ton with coil spring.now one thing i am uncertain about was i think all half tons were a married case. as for trim levels custom trim was a small single chrome strip down side of truck between marker lights, ranger trim was a bold chrome strip with a black rubber strip in the chrome. now xlt trim level had all the chrome trim upper ,lower and full tailgate. plus up graded interior trim
