Scale I Build

  1. Hi all, here's another model I recently completed. Started in 2014, I lost motivation due to the quality of the plastic. This General Lee MPC kit was really poorly molded, even with quite a bit of bodywork there's still alot of defects that show through. I eventually decided to just paint it as is and at least get it off of the desk, which is why some areas are not perfect. I de-chromed everything on the chrome tree, and redid those parts with Alclad. The wheels I sprayed a Zero Paints gold and left them in a matte finish. The body is painted Zero Paints Light Blue Metallic with Tamiya Clear, and the interior the same Zero Paints Light Blue Metallic over black, matte finish. I chose not to do the rear panel black for something different, the rest is all stock. The most fun for me was the photoshoot and trying out new lighting techniques, it's there where the car really shines. Cheers!
  2. Revell 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, painted with Testors mystic green one coat lacquer and Testors wet look clear. White interior, basically box stock except for plug wires. Thanks for looking
  3. With all the excitement prior to the 24 Hour Build I literally forgot to take photos and post a model I had completed the year before! This was my 24 Hour Build project for 2014, that I didn't complete. In this photo you can see when I packed it in at 6:14 am on Sunday. There were things I didn't like about it, and knew I didn't want to finish it that way. One of the things you may notice are the HUGE almost working hinges in this kit. I had already built a Jimmy Flintstone resin van and he had correct hinges. So I did glue the doors shut and add ones the right size made from Evergreen round. For my Christmas Amnesty Project, I had made a commitment to myself to attack all those 80-90% finished models on my project shelf. I had completed the Model A TROG racer as my last build of 2018, and had moved right onto the Dodge D50 US Navy pickup as my first build for 2019. So this one is my second completion this year, and the 24 Hour Build Model A woody pickup is the THIRD. Me? With three completions in January? Unheard of! LOL Paint is Testors One Coat Flaming Orange because I absolutely love the color. I had painted my '65 Barracuda a similar color back in 1978. The paint laid perfectly. I don't believe I even clear coated it. That is the stock position for the spare tire. The kit doesn't have a stock gas filler so I drilled a hole and added one from my parts box. I think this one was from the AMT '53 Ford Pickup. Of course I can complicate anything, so I got the bright idea of replacing the kit's stock exhaust with duals. So I took two of the kit's stock mufflers (from two kits) and fabricated most everything else from pieces and parts of exhaust systems I keep in a shoe box for this purpose. The tail pipe ends are from the Revell Dart kits. I drill out the parts and assemble it all with bits of straight pin. I fit it tight so I can adjust the parts on the car before finalizing with glue, same way you'd do before clamping on a 1:1 car. I don't remember where I swiped the bucket seats from back in 2014. I did remember that I sprayed them with cheap spray paint that didn't dry during the 24 Hours! Now five years later, they are dry! I had to make seat bases for them to sit in the van. With no time constraints, I decided to add some seat belts. Model Car Garage buckles that I added depth to with Evergreen. And correct 1/16" ribbon for the belts. I bought a lifetime supply of seat belts on eBay (5 dif color rolls) for $10. I made a custom plate for the occasion. The bumpers are the same color as the interior. And here's the pair sitting together. Note how the hinges match now! I'm happy to have finished this one!
  4. Painted Tamiya TS-11 Maroon Interior will be either black and white or maroon and white. Still got some fixing to do to the body. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  5. Yea, I've dug into my unfinished build pile and am finishing up some of those 80-90% finished models! There are ones I stopped working on out of frustration, and ones I have no idea why I shelved them. But I finished up the Valiant Stocker, the TROG Model A Phaeton and now this Dodge D-50 pickup. Back in the day I worked in a convenience store at the New Jersey shore near Earle Naval Depot. We had a lot of navy traffic in the store and these little pickups were always scooting around town. I was told they were used because they were taken on the ships and saved space. So I decided to build one for my 24 Hour Build project in 2017. I had some setbacks during the build, some of which had to do with fit of this kit. It is a nice little replica and the chassis detail is super nice. In fact I noticed it slid right up into my '40 Ford sedan delivery.. can a Turbo street rod be far off? What stopped me cold during the 24 Hour Build was the final fitment of the kit. After 20 hours of straight building, I just couldn't see where the issue was, so I called it quits. Coming back two years later with a clear head, I saw that the dashboard was too wide. I did some serious sanding on the ends and got the interior bucket to sit up in the body. That affects how the entire cab sits on the chassis. The rear pan on the pickup box was too narrow so I added some plastic to either end. I also did a lot of my drill and pinning to get the little pieces like hoses to fit and stay in place. The mirrors are also pinned in place. The model came with low wide tires and mag wheels. I needed it to be stock for the US Navy version. This little Mitsu pickup came with six lugs, so I stole the wheels and tires from a '57 Chevy Black Widow kit. I made my own decals. The paint color that worked best is actually Duplicolor sandable gray primer, with clear coat over it. Then I gave it a semi gloss overall finish. The mirrors appear too large to my eye, but they came with the kit. And I have to do something about those flat headlights! Part of the 24 Hour Build is to build something simple, not to add too much detail and try not to modify it a lot. It's also good to build a model that is expendable, so you aren't overly concerned about thrashing through a good kit. This D-50 fit the bill. It was for sale at my club meeting for the huge sum of $5, and I knew I had two more copies at home. The kit came with clear red tail lights, but the actual truck had the red - orange - white lenses. I covered the red clear units with Bare Metal Foil, then used paints for the colors. Stock Mitsubishi 4 banger under the hood. I didn't even wire it. There are a bunch of small delicate parts under the hood, so I did some detail painting on them. Chassis is also fairly nice with a lot of detail and working steering. I think I'll take one of my spare kits and see how this fares under a street rod! And my "I can't help myself!" detail was creating a dash insert. The interior was kind of stark and I knew I didn't want to try to detail paint the gauges. I started with a photo from a dealer brochure, and in the above photo you can see where I have deleted the steering wheel. The wheel was completely across the speedometer, so I copied the tach over into that space. In scale, and in the interior, nobody will notice it has two tachs! It's just printed on paper and white glued in place. If anyone wants a copy of the dashboard, I can email you a copy of the Word file I printed from. One thing that did baffle me a bit was that I repainted the hood and it's a lighter tone than the rest of the body. Then I checked my primer against the pain on the bed underside and it matches... the culprit must've been the Testors clear coat. I believe it's yellowed casting a slightly darker gray. So I took the freshly painted hood and did the same clear coat on it. Hopefully it will age to match in time. Hope you like it!
  6. here it is everybody. it is a revel 1968 dodge dart GSS painted Tamiya chrome silver. it has a wired distributer and the trim is the Molotow crome pen. it didn't turn out as good as I wanted but oh well its all a learning experience and the next one will be better. what do you think?
  7. Back from a long time of not being able to post on here.
  8. Built this a few years ago. I ended up displaying it in a mode l shop near where I live. Unfortunately the guy who owned the shop ended up closing, and stole 8 of my models including this one. Today all I have is pictures, but at least I hope its under somebody's glass somewhere.
  9. I finally finished my Linburg Rammunition Monster Truck diorama. The kit was pretty easy and went together easily. This was my first model with a roll cage and fitting it together concerned me a bit, but it just slide together and required no cursing at all. What made it best was the $9.99 price tag from Olies. The crushed cars are my first also and it was also my first time spattering mud/sand. Thanks for looking

  11. I understand this isn't for the faint of heart Mopar nuts and some of ya are gonna spout out "YOU PUT A WHAT IN THAT POOR OLD DODGE?!". But, since the 330 had a slant six on the base models this combo pays a modern homage to those slant sixers with a twist. This was the AMT boxed Lindberg kit i got on markdown for $7.50 at HL, and since I rarely do things OOB I brainstormed some customizing ideas on what to do with it. I found a resin 2JZ and resin turbos that a friend gave me a while back in my stash and that got the spark going for my next project on top of a closet full of kits i plan to chip away at. Interior is Testors light gray rattle can and basically OOB, added a dash gauge cluster piece (from a Revell pro stock of some sort) and a 57 'Vette steering wheel with a custom stick on the steering column to replicate a shiftier on the wheel type config. 2JZ resin motor has resin twin turbos mounted on modified headers from a Ferrari Boxer 12, plastic tubing as intake pipes, and a custom side exhaust made from a Mustang muffler and Lamborghini exhaust tips. Cadiator from a AMT Dodge Viper, and suspension is pretty much stock but added new drive shaft to go to 2JZ tranny and modified engine mounts on suspension and transmission brace. Wheels and tires are from a AMT Dodge Concept Car builder (that looked as some child did his/her own "crash testing" as it's body all broken, but wheels were intact for only $1). Paint is Tamiya TS-60 Pearl Green cleared with Pledge, and the frame is Krylon Stainless Steel Finish. I also added a Japanese Licence plate from a Aoshima Skyline of some sort because why not. To those who appreciate homages, I hope you enjoy!
  12. A good April 19 to everyone. This is my Truck-A-Thon 2018 build, the Dodge L-700 tanker truck Starting with step one,the engine, the fit of these parts is poor but with sanding and trimming all went together well Next was the wheels and tires.I have only been at modeling a little over a year but i have never come across instructions as unclear is the one included in this kit Parts # not on tree which i have encountered before but the illustrations are just as bad Ok,enough rant and on to step two,the wheels and tires This is the one that had me tied up So off i go to do the flash clean up then to a Dawn soap bath before painting. Next time wee'll see how the engin and wheel paint turns out. Till then Peace Out
  13. Got one of these kits at Ollie's and wanted something that was pretty straight forward with no modifications. I had this orange paint sitting around and decided to use it. Once I got the white stripes on I looked at it and thought boy that looks like a Cleveland Browns truck. The only thing missing from the paint job is the real browns helmet has a thin brown strip on the outside of each of the white strip. I thought it still looked very Brownish and still put a custom plate on it. Did not notice how the hood was sitting till after I looked at the photo. I screwed the front decal up a bit.
  14. A while back I had pick up some of the Revell 2009 Dodge Challengers and when I went to Ollies some time ago my son and I picked up some Revell Dodge Ram VTS Pickups. I built one of the Rams and my son had started on the other. All he finished was the engine and put it away to do a WW2 tank model. This evening he pulled the model out and was looking at it. He then pulled one of the Challengers out and started "playing" around with them. He then placed the Challenger on my desk with the V10 in it. I took a look at it and if I modify the intake and oil pan it might fit right into the engine bay. What do you guys think? Should I take his idea further? This might just give a Hellcat or Demon a run for their money
  15. Hello, here is my current project.. Its 70`Charger from Revell Fast n`Furious kit.. Im not going to build Torettos car, since i wanted to do something else.. Paint is Tamiya Candy lime green.. Like you see, i opened headlights for grille.. Started engine wiring and plumbing.. Interior piece got some weathering.. Im doing this something like: it has fresh paint, fresh engine and chassis parts, but some pieces on body, i mean inner fenders on engine space, that interior panel where back seat should be, and chassis will be in "old" color of this car.. So its kind of middle of progress, but still in driveable condition.. I hope you got my point, my english is not well to explain it better..
  16. Hello, here is my Dart from Mr. Norm`s kit.. Decals were poor condition, but i used that stripe and aircleaner decals from newer Hemi Dart kit.. Added plugwires and mudflaps and some custom "Mopar" license plates and some little decals too on windows.. I lowered front just a little bit, so stance looks much nicer now.. Paint is Tamiya TS-34 called Camel Yellow.. and for vinyl top, i just brush painted it with satin black.. Some red color also to give bit more attitude.. Commets are welcome..
  17. I found this website after Googling and stumbled upon Shelbytonas thread about the Daytona model he was working on. Unfortunately, his thread or project appears to be unfinished. I'm definitely going to use his photos as references though. I owned two of these cars in real life, both 1988's, both Shelby Z's, both white with maroon interior but one had a blue stripe. Anyways, here's the progress so far: The car: I'm choosing the striped one as my inspiration because I wanted to try painting stripes instead of using decals. This is also the first time I've used an airbrush, which I'm borrowing from my brother, and first time with acrylics. I think the bulk of the painting with airbrush is done, now onto the gluing and brushes.
  18. Gonna start posting some of my older stuff since my old photos are lost from photobucket. 1 (2) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (3) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (4) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (5) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  19. Not a bad kit, pleasure to build. Wish I'd have gone with black though. No engine picks, kit was missing some pieces for it. 20. Couldn't wait for this kit to come out, and when it did I bought one immediately. Been waiting for some time to build it and since I just lost my job I have a lot of new found time on my hands for some builds. 21. By far my best build & also my proudest build!! My '68 Dodge Charger with a 440 big block. It took me over a month to complete as I submerged myself into the detail of the car. This car truly helped me grow as a builder & I can't wait to see what comes next after this one!!
  22. My '68 Charger that I just finished. Nice kit, although I had a heck of a time with the front bumper/valance fitting. Had to use super glue on the 3 pieces to get it to stay. Not perfect fit, but I moved on...LOL. I went with the Plymouth Plum Crazy paint and I really liked the way it came out. 3 light coats over the dark gray primer, then 3 light coats of Testor's One Coat clear. I went with the street version mostly, but stuffed the 426 Hemi in there and added some nice Mickey Thompson meats in the rear. Used the Mopar rims and some purple accents on the interior with Purple Embossing powder for the carpet. All in all, I think it came out pretty good. Hope you like it. Once again, much thanks to this board and it's members for the tips, tricks and projects posted. I read through this board a lot!
  23. (Delete if not appropriate) Please no tirekickers. How many would be interested and for sure purchase a trans-kit of the 77 Monaco/Crestwood? It would come with body, rear bumper, tailights and tub/tub extension. Not sure yet if there should be trim for the wood,or leave that up to the builder. This would be mastered and produced by a professional who today produce very high quality aftermarket products,so it will not be anything as the resin blob offered on eBay. The price range my guess will be in the range $45-$60. You will have to supply donor-kit and extra glass. For now just checking interest. If the response is good i`ll get back with more details. Tommy
  24. This was the third kit I've worked on since I've gotten back into the hobby. I've been away from building for 15 years. This kit went together rather well. I cannot say there was much of a problem. The paint is Duplicolor MC201 Metalcast Anodized Blue with a Duplicolor Plymouth silver base. As I work more and more, looking back I should have rubbed out the orange peel. I'm learning... Thanks for looking
  25. Hi everybody! Just started some work on a 71 Charger. I managed to sand all the parts and put primer on all the body parts. I also painted the body, hood and chassis with Scalefinishes plum crazy purple. It was the first time I used Scalefinishes product and I'm very happy with it. There is some dust in the paint at the moment, but nothing that can't be sanded out. I'm going to wait a few days before I put some clear on it. I'm building this model for Moson model show in Hungary that will take place in the middle of april and I'm planning to build another kit The pictures are not the best, but you can see something Regards, Andraz
