Scale I Build

  1. Hello I am quite new to modelling and I am interested in any techniques and tools that I have not used before in miniature painting. I am interested in tools to get to a higher level or specifically for model car upgrades and conversions. What do you recommend that is not basic equipment on a modeler's desk? I recently bought one of these round cutters for diorama making or wheel and fender conversions. But I think I will mostly use it to cut out stencils. (First I will be correcting the VW Beetle's start numbers, which you may have seen before or you can find in my signature.)
  2. Finally got around to start mocking up the stance I want for my C.A.R.S. in Minature Christmas 2018 build. We're building "Cars from the Year You Were Born" and having been born in 1976, I'm kinda limited on interesting things to build that are interesting. I had a couple of these AMT '76 Gremlins laying around as well as a couple 70's Chevy Van kits and decided to start with one of the Gremlins in a psuedo ProTouring build with the stance from the 70's Pro Stock Gremlins and rolling on the Pegasus Centerline style wheels. Right now I'm going to keep the 5.0l AMC V-8 with some of the NASCAR goodies from an AMT Matador unless somebody knows of a 1/25 scale Jeep 4.0l that just might fit. Interior wise, I'm planning on modding the tub to fit the seats the Vette/Recaro style seats from the AMT '57 Fairlane 500 kit, as well as the aftermarket shifter and Viper-esk steering wheel from that kit. Here's what I have so far.
  3. I have always wanted to build a Mercedes C-111, have a Corgi but that's not the same. Does not seem to be any kits available, just this horrid motorized toy from a defunct manufacturer. I just had to get it. It would be a ton of work to correct the body to begin with, but it's basic shape looks correct. Even Jay Leno could not own one, since Mercedes has kept all of them, so my idea is to double up on the sacrilegious aspect, and resto-rod it with using the chassis and engine, and some of the interior, from another legendary car that won Le Mans. What is your reaction to this idea? 1. You are crazy? 2. I'll buy that C-111 for double what you paid for it. 3. Wish I thought of that. 4. Why don't you build something normal like Fords or something? 5. Are you freaking insane?!?!?
  4. I was thinking after I built my Graffiti cars about Aloha, Bobby and Rose Camaro. I know the car was a 1967 Camaro. I think they had a few 68 pieces added to the front end put on it. I'm trying to find a kit that is pretty similar to this car. I'm finding 1968 kits by AMT, but don't know which one to go with. Plus I know if I can pull this off I still have to fabricate the hood, and the flares above the wheels. So far haven't found to what degree fender flares are sticking out. Same with what kind of motor this car is running in the movie. I know from watching the movie the interior is going to be black, and have a roll cage in it. There's switches on the dash near the shifter. The dash itself looks pretty much stock. The rims might be stock, but not certain. The back tires are going to be wider than the front. Needing advice on this one everything from Colors, Motor, etc. Has anyone ever attempted this build?
  5. This is my first build since coming back that I have taken my time on, and tried some new things with as well. So Far: Painted and cleared with model masters rattle cans turned out better than I expected. First time use of bare metal foil for the trim. the rest is going to be out of box, except I also plan to do flocking on the interior. ISSUES: This kit did not come with any gauge decals or anything like that so I may end up looking for those or end up just hand painting the dash like the rest of the interior. with no further a do! let me know what you guys think, and any tips to get better next go around..
