At the Maryland Automotive Modelers Association (great) show 11 May, I picked up a junker Pontiac Banshee. After staring at it (who knows how long), I decided to throw caution and taste aside. Maybe I could blame Ira Dahm; his stuff always looks so good no matter how wild. So, even though this is red plastic, I started hacking. Hopefully you can see the Alfa Bat influence. Of course, a scratched rotary engine and one of my resin chassis are going into the mix.

Here’s my latest build, the AMT 58 Impala. I decided to build this as a mild 60’s custom, with all the chrome, badges and scripts and dropped the suspension as low as it would go without cutting into the chassis/floorpan. I saw a few images online of 60’s cars with Bellflowers, so I made some with alu tube and plumbers solder. The wheels and tyres and rings are from the Galaxie 48 Chevy, I made the bullets from silver 3mm wire. I made some braided water hoses from woven chrome craft ribbon , some fuel lines to the carbs and added wires to ignition, alternator and battery. I added a little PE alternator bracket, too. The interior is flocked and BMF’d with PE details. New gear and turn signal levers were added and the 59 Caddy taillights are from Modelhaus. Paint is from rattle cans. The blues are Tamiya with dark blue glitter on the lower/rear side panels.The roof was sprayed Audi silver then given a dusting with glitter spray. Paint was cleared, wet-sanded and polished. I plan to do less chrome and easy paint on my next build!! Thanks for looking

Here is another custom from my bench. Starting with an AMT '51 Chevy Bel Air, kit #T295. I chopped the top about 3 scale inches. I decided to cut the roof at the mold seam line so as not to lose the shape where the roof meets the body. The front was cut mid "A" pillar. I also added 57 Chevy headlight extensions. Most of the trim has to go, including the windows. On the left side I have drawn a line for a two tone paint scheme and the right shows a chrome trim reference. Not sure which one yet and still need to work out the tail lights and a couple other dozen things! I'm pretty sure on bumpers, but not the grill. I like to brace things while sanding, the styrene in the front is temporary. Any way thanks for looking, J2.

Hey everybody. This is my first true project since I've gotten back into building afer about 5 or 6 years from taking a break. I am building a Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck that will be fully custom inside and out. I don't have any progress on it yet. I just got it earlier today and just opened it up. I am about to cut the doors open and get started on some of the easier things I can do first. Here are some of my plans for it. I know it is allot, but I want a big challenge. Without the challenge, I would get bored and quit. Fully custom frame with bags and 4 link. Convertible Hard-Top roof. Fully custom interior. Raised bed floor (Not sure about stock or smooth styrene.) Body dropped. Flat black with red accents here and there. Stock rims (unless I find something better). Openable "zig-zag" style doors. Openable reversed hood with 2" cowl. Not sure on engine yet (don't want to use the supplied I6). Shaved tail lights. Tubbed front inner fenders. Possible custom grille. License plate relocated to back window in custom frame. Possible sound system (most likely). Highly detailed all over. Feel free to give suggestions/tips and post pics of what you have done.

here is a project i got from a friend, he cut off the sleeper and cut up the frame. i finished off the cutting and worked it out, made a daycab panel, fixed the frame and am making it all work out and look good. still have a bit of work left to do on it, like the interior, fix the rear frame, some minor weathering, and a couple other details. this is a revell pete 359 "snap" kit. cant rotate one of the pics, but needs a small bit of touch up in the paint. color is mystic emerald, by testors, in one coat laquer.

This is my latest build, the Revell 1936 Ford Coupe/Cabriolet. As usual, paint is Tamiya (TS20), wheels/tyres from parts box. The kit is designed to have the top fitted after the interior is inserted - didn't fancy this so had to build up from underneath after top was blended in. The kit is a curbside 'cos I didn't know how things would work out. Thanks for looking.

While working on my vintage Vette and McLaren, I wanted to do something more out of the box type build w/some mild add-ons. I always seem to dive too deep and never get a build done, so this one is to keep the itch scratched while chugging away at those other builds that never seem to end... So here we have what someday I'd love to build in my own garage w/o having to do any major cutting, at least none w/the body. The stock grille was cut, part that was cut out of the middle filled in at the top and a custom insert was found for the center. Sorry for the poor pics, my lighting was off as I was in a hurry. Here I will show you how to scratchbuild an extractor. Use this tutorial as a guide only- you can choose your own size/shape/whatever. The same techniques can be used to create all sorts of types of extractors/headers. It's a lot easier than it looks and a whole lotta fun so don't be afraid to try it! Just experiment and have fun This extractor isn't a replica of any particular 1:1, it's just based off the many I've seen in magazines/on the net/other peoples' builds etc... Rito enough talk, let's get building- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are all the materials/tools I used to make this extractor- 0.5mm styrene sheet 1.6mm styrene rod 3.2mm styrene rod hobby knife; No. 11 blade pinvise; 1mm, 1.5mm bits sanding stick dremel grinding bit lighter styrene cement rubber band ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ First of all, and the most important thing, is to plan how you are going to make you extractor. What size does the flange/pipes need to be? Is it going to clear chassis rails/steering boxes/whatever else? A little planning ahead will save alot of headaches in the long run. Test fitting is also very important- check the fit of every piece you make as the part comes together. Alright, let's really get building Using the 0.5mm sheet, we need to cut the flange out. If you have the kit header handy, you might be able to use it to get the correct size. Next is to drill 1.5mm holes where you want the pipes coming out (not a bad idea to use your 1mm bit to drill pilot holes first). This will make things alot easier rather than just gluing the pipes straight to the flange. Okay, pipes. to make a bend in rod, I use a lighter. I know some people can bend rod without heat, but I just can't. Well not without breaking it anyway . The trick here is to use just enough heat to be able to bend the rod easily; just a second right above the flame is enough for rod this small. Too much heat and it will begin to pit, or of course catch fire. Also, allow plenty of room from the end of the rod where you make your bend. If you make it too close, the tip of the rod will expand and it won't look so pretty. Neither will it fit in the holes in the flange- First bend- Also a good idea to mark where you want your bends before you bend them. And remember to test fit. Now cut the excess, but make sure you leave plenty of length. Continue using this same method to make the rest of the pipes. Oh don't forget to test fit them as you go . As you can see, there is a fair bit of excess rod sticking through the other side of the flange, this will be trimmed away a little later.

A lot of you probably use or have used them hair brushes with the plastic bristles. Next time you do, take a look at them. They are basically a bunch of shifter handles with ball knobs on 'em. I've used them once or twice in die cast. Let's see how it works for plastic.

Been trying to figure out what to do with this 41 Plymouth. It's always been one of those love hate relationships. I loved it one day, then hated it the next. Decided to do a search here and see if I could find some inspiration and found some. Thor did a pickup conversion last year that I loved! So I decided to hack my Plymouth apart. I started by removing the rear fenders. Then hacked off the trunk. Needed to then modify the chassis to allow the bed to fit. More to follow. Tim

Here is one of my favorites. This is my 1991 Toyota minitruck. I have several trucks like this and plan on building many more in the future.

So I was wanting to build a winged warrior for somtime so I came up with this idea. So this is what you get when you cross this. And you cross it with this.... This will basically be a Daytona only skin deep. Everything underneath, chassis, engine and interior will be all Ferrari. Here are the wheels I plan on using. Took awhile to work it out but I got the nose to sit where I like it. Here is the Ferrari chassis shortened just a little to match the wheelbase of the Daytona. The width was not bad, I only had to take some off the outside. The interior tub still fits pretty good, just need to section it a bit.

The stock 1960 Starliner by 70mach1 here on the Under Glass forum is gorgeous! Here's a different take on the same kit. I built this for the H.A.M.B. jalopyjournal.com (website for pre-'64 traditional hot rods and customs) custom model contest in 2011. It came in a distant second place in the radical custom class online voting by the mostly 1:1 forum members. The AMT '60 Ford kit body was pie-cut to create a wedge shape, as seen from above, but in such a way that that the front and rear of the car did not become V shaped. The bubble top and interior are from the Revell "Big Daddy" Roth Beatnik Bandit. My idea was to build something that might have been a Ford concept car in about 1957 to see how the public would respond to some of the 1960 styling cues. Paint is a custom mix of House of Color silver-white pearl and Trueblue pearl with several clear coats of Pledge (Future) floor finish. Here are some views of the body during construction. It's a curbside model but this shows the basics. I later removed the engine and only attached the air cleaner to the body. Well heres my latest project, its an AMT camaro concept with a revell 69 camaro front and rear molded on, it will have a ZR1 corvette drivetrain and suspension and a custom interior

Hallo everybody, today i want to show you my first custom-built. It is based on the first issue of the amt 58 Imala, that i have built "since i was a little child". It is too old, that i remember Now, that was the first "look": Nice, isn't it? I took it in May 2010 and gave him a totaly restauration and - sure - a complete new look. What changes have i done? - made it 2-Seated - extendet the trunk - also i extendet the intigrated frontbumber - mounted a continetal kit at the back from a 54 Victoria - channeled the backlights - removed all trim - new coat and interiorcolors - installed a Hemi - mounted Centerlines out of a "Heavy Cevelle"-Kit - made a small Display with gimmicks - for sure, i changed the roof and took one out of my partsbox A Picure from the work on the body: ...and from the scratchbuilt gimmicks And thats the result: ...tbc...
