So I wasn't really going to do a build log on this, but I'm excited to share the progress. I have been kicking this idea around since I heard about the release of this kit, and when it came out it was sort of a "clear the bench" type of project. I like the simplistic nature of this kind of project in the summer, since my bench time is limited and sporadic. I'm still very excited about my Formula style model A, but when you don't get bench time for weeks on end, its hard to keep my head into something that complex. This is simple, relaxing and most of all quite fun. The basic idea was to build a pinto wagon that would have toured the indoor show circuit in the early 80's. Lots of chrome, shiny paint, and over the top everything. If you have seen my gremlin build, something like that... but a bit more complex and a bit more aggressive stance. Here are a couple inspiration images: Stance like this= Color scheme something like this= So getting started I grabbed the rear slicks from the JawBreaker Dragster, and started cutting up the rear fenders till the stance was pretty close Then I fully sanded the toy-like detail off the chassis plate... Using the Ford 9" from the new 29 roadster and some brass tubing, I realized rear-end clearance will be an issue. Some sheet styrene and wendys spoons to the rescue. Using my scrapbook cutter I drew up and cut out the springs, plates and ladderbars. Then started building the rear suspension: added some beading wire u-bolts:

Hey guys, This is the first time I have documented a build so be patient as I work my way through this one. There will be many little steps along the way. The inspiration for this came after seeing the Southeastern Gassers Association's event at Union Dragway in Union SC. I looked over my stash and decided the 41 Plymouth would make a good gasser. The inspiration photo is a 39 Dodge with a 392 Hemi. I love the unpolished, all business approach to this thing and my build will be very similar regarding the final finish. The first order of business was to open the grill. There will be a moon tank between the grill and radiator and I wanted it to be visible through the grill. This was a tedious task that took several sessions with the xacto knife. I will keep the chrome and dull it, and weather the exposed plastic to resemble rust and dirt. Next was the grill shell. It was an ill fitting piece out of the box and required some sanding and gap filling . I may need to revisit this step after primer to make sure everything is smooth. When researching the 1:1 41 Plymouth, the vertical seams can be seen but not the seam running across the front above the grill. The hood was also sanded and filled.

This was my first time to try hand-painting letters and artwork directly on the body of a model car, which turns out, is a whole lot harder than drawing on a piece of paper laying flat on the table, but it was a fun experiment! I’m gonna be trying more of this on more projects soon! This is my tribute to those crazy fellas from the 50’s and 60’s who lived to drag race with whatever they could get their hands on….probably built in their Dad’s garage…the big blown souped-up motor was the most important thing. Winning on Saturday night was all they could think about all week long. And maybe safety wasn’t exactly first on their mind--just winning with the craziest fastest car out there! This is the excellent 1/25 AMT ’37 Chevy kit that comes with the option to build one of three ways, and I chose to build a mad gasser in honor of those drag racing pioneers. The body was primed with Krylon Gray Ultra-Flat primer and allowed to dry outside for about an hour while I took my oil pastel sticks and scraped 5 colors into powder with an Xacto on a piece of wax paper…Orange Rust, Yellow, Light Blue and Brown. I used cotton swabs to mix those powder colors together a bit, and then rubbed the body down to appear severely weathered, like it was finally rescued from the junkyard. I sprayed Testor’s Dullcote over the body to protect all that weathering work, and to prep for the task of hand-painting the lettering and ball-and-chain artwork -- the lettering was done with acrylic paint markers, and the ball & chain was done with the edge corners of the pastel sticks that I made the powders from earlier. Then a second coat of the dulcote to protect the artwork. The chassis was painted Krylon Red Oxide and set aside. I added a few of my own touches to the beastly 427 powerplant -- like the MOROSO valve covers, some CRAZY PIPES from a Miss Deal funny car kit, velocity stacks made from Evergreen Styrene tube, a parts-box blower, and I made the fuel pump tubing from some clear plastic bead string stuff I found at Michael’s that I painted with Tamiya Clear Yellow acrylic to appear full of gasoline - then hooked up to the kit-supplied fuel pump. The rear tires are the most excellent pad-printed M&H dragmaster piecrust slicks from AMT parts pack--the Cragars are lightly coated with Tamiya Light Gunmetal to bring the kit chrome shine down a bit. Seatbelts were made from masking tape painted the same Light Gunmetal, and P/E buckle hardware was added. Finally, I used Tamiya Weathermaster Orange rust to give the door handles and headlight bezels that neglected look like it was just dug out from years in the junkyard. I also increased the ride height in front and rear from kit specs by adding cut / stacked & painted pieces of balsa wood blocks. This was a BLAST to build! Thank you AMT.

....just wondered if the Revel Model King BAD NOOZE 53/54 Chevy gasser issued in 2006,,,,,then reissued again in 2013 have any differences in kit mold quality, chrome, basically anything........I ask because I may buy the lastest one, but seem to recall checking out a 2006 issue a few years ago and not thinking the overall quality of the kit was very nice, being quite rough generally...... any thoughts here from our members would be welcomed....thanks, the Ace...

Hey guys, I'm planning out a gasser and I was wanting some advice. So far I have a 41 Plymouth body on a 53 Ford frame and a Hemi from the Willy Borsch Winged Express kit. Slicks and deep dish steelies in the back (53 Chevy kit) and thinner Firestones with steelies in the front. I can scratchbuild some stuff. The idea is a dirty, rougher home-grown effort with attitude.

How come racers back in the day hated green cars, anyway?

I bought this a while ago, but I've only just got around to building it. I liked the look of the lace decals, even though the lace is a tad out-of-scale. Gold and purple always go well together, so I used purple candy over a silver base. The horrible kit wheels were replaced with some from a Polar Lights funny car. Now, I've heard it said that this kit has one of the worst Ford SOHC engines in 1/25, so I decided to pep it up a bit. I added resin pulley wheels, intake, oil filter and gear linkage. I also added a Mallory ignition module and rear disc brakes. The engine had no magneto, so I made one that looks kinda like a Vertex. A Detail Master 5-point harness and a fire extinguisher were added to the interior. I had to lift the pickup bed a bit to stop the rear arches rubbing the tyres. A note to anyone who plans to build this kit...The front axle is set too far back. The rear edges of the tyres would foul on the bodywork. I know some guys re-position the leaf springs, but I'd already painted the chassis and installed the axle before I realized my error. Luckily, I'd only fixed the front axle on with CA glue, so it came apart easily and I was able to fit it in a better position with epoxy. The kit decals were dead tricky. They seemed to stick fast, on contact with the paint. I managed to get them all on, but it was a sweaty hour. 'nuff blurb.. Building this one for the Ohio challenge at the Buckeye classic this coming March. I ran through a ton of ideas and options and decided on this for my "inspiration" quick mock-up and we are in business

Just before i start this, i, like my cousin am a rookie at modeling, i have only built a few but i couldnt pass up the opportunity to try to get this model looking reasonable, i love chevy gassers and so will try to fix this with what limited knowledge i have. So this weekend my little cousin gave me this model of his, it was fairly complete but its the first model he ever made and its in such a state. Below are all the parts i got with it, he tried to make some rusty 2 lane black top style chevy, but it really hasnt turned out well. (the pictures arent great, the rust is darker than that and doesnt look too bad, for some reason the camera has made the pictures a lot lighter than they should be.) Im not really sure where to start on the car tbh, there was some big holes on the engine which i managed to fill with some scraps of plastic i had and im in the process of getting the paint off. I think i will have to re-make the rear leaf springs as they have split in the middle and are covered in glue and one of the wheels has snapped of the rear axle so i dunno what to do about that. i also dont know what to do about the firewall that he, for some reason, cut out and the terribly cut out door. There is also a lot of glue on the front and rear window and im not sure how to get it off. Thanks for reading, updates to come.

A little spring project, because starting new builds is more fun than finishing old ones *EDIT* It's going to be an altered now. Ebay parts-lot warped body, hogged-out 1/43 semi tires on the front with AMT 55 Nomad wheels, Double Dragster front radius rods, scratchbuilt rear ladder bars (will be drilled to match the fronts), AMT 56 Ford rearend, AMT 62 Impala 409 engine with offenhauser valve covers, AMT parts-pack blower and injectors with AMT 57 corvette gasser front cover, manifold, and fuel pump. Roll bar is sprue, seat is modified NASCAR piece. Bear with me as I've been having problems linking from Photobucket and the "edit" feature doesn't seem to function on this forum

This is my first build in almost 30 years. I'm actually building a kit that I bought back in the 80's (better late than never, right?). I built it once back then and I remember it being a total pain because of ill-fitting parts. This one hasn't been that bad, though. This is also my first time airbrushing and using BMF....Please be gentle. lol. Anyway, here is the progress that I've made so far. Please excuse the photography.

I got this one in a trade. It was freshly painted black and then dropped. It was broken in three places. Fixed it up the best my skills would allow...just small details left now. Built it like a small town drag car with local sponsors.

Made this thing from awful Lindberg kit. Paints used: Tamiyan Gold Leaf, Zero blue with added gold flake. On top, Tamiya clear coat. Engine changes: -Resin McCullogh supercharger -New waterlines from 1mm silver wire and shrink tube -Edelbrock heads from Revell -2mm aluminium wire for exhaust Chassis changes: -Original front axle drilled and modified -Scratchbuild shocks, leaf springs and brackets Interior changes: -Racing seat -Rollcage -Steering wheel and gearstick

Here is a project ive been working on for a while. Using the Gremlin X kit, and the 1933 Willys Gasser kit as the main donors. The main idea was a wild chromed out gasser show car. Something from the late 70's early 80's show car circuit. Name = Gizmo Color Scheme = Bright Green with Purple Windows and Accents, Chrome Everything Interior = Metal Flake Silver Vinyl with Diamond Pleats Engine = Early 392 Hemi with Hilborn Injection Overall Look = Wild. Here is the progess so far: First thing was to lop off the factory front end and make some new frame rails. I made these the correct width to accept the Willys front axle and springs. Rough Suspension Mockup Check the stance and fit of the hemi Removal of pesky fuel tank, and chassis smoothing. Suspension Mounts and new wheels and tires from Comp Resins. Switch out from the funky willys rear end to the 9" out of the AMT 62 Thunderbird Scratch built some ladder bars, and finished up the chassis mounts. (still need shocks and steering linkage)

Working on a project this is one of my Dad's Cars does anyone know where I could find a set of black finned aluminum "WIEAND" valve covers like in the engine picture?

This is my next project now that I'm finally getting my shop back together. 1/18 scale diecast 41 Willys. This is going to be a simple repaint and some small detailing.

My favorite Hot Wheels car as a kid was the '36 Ford NEET STREETER. The look of that chopped 3W coupe all jacked up gasser-style was pure attitude. I wanted a "quick" project to finish for an upcoming contest, so I grabbed an AMT '36 Ford, a Malco '33 Willys, and started putting things together: That 427 Cammer is going to be a tight fit. Notching the X-member got me an extra 3/32" of setback, which may allow the blower drive to clear the radiator. Originally, I was trying to find a Miss Deal to use as a chassis/suspension donor. If I come up on one, that still could happen.

Here is a 58 FC Holden,GMH was 1 of aussies first major car manufacturing company's Any ways Would you class this as a Gasser!It does have nose bleed,If i add some stacks out the hood and and a moon tank maybe??I might get into trouble as this got moved to the pick up section when i first posted it... I think this is where it should be though.Your thoughts? .

Hey guys, I've been looking at different builds on here for nearly a year now so I suppose it's about time I posted something! I bought a Revell Willys kit a while ago and started it a few weeks ago but I haven't really got any build photos. This is where I'm at so far... As you can see this build is far from finished but the hard work is done. Not sure weather to add decals yet, I might add a couple. Also, as I carry on with this and future builds, I'll get some build photos and post them on the forum. The header looks so low with the body on because I accidently knocked it, but I didn't notice until posting the photos on here! (Doh!) So far, I've been building this Gasser as the kit says (Apart from the colours) But I might add some more stuff like a fire extinguisher for the interior. Here are a few others I'm working on: Any tips/comments will be appreciated and thanks for looking! Pudgey

Hi all, here is my 65 Ford Falcon Gasser I just finished, wired an plumbed out, had a rough time. Someone started it an trashed the body, but, I think I pulled it out ok, ran fuel lines from Moon tank thru grill, plug an dist wires, clean sleak inside, thanks for looking. I'm doing the k.c. spurlock fruit of the loom funny car now, did the deep red car, looks like ox blood red. Post a few pics later,
