Update on this project, I have the suspensions installed on the frame and the interior bucket sanded down to fit the AMT 67 floorboards. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.

My build of a kit I saw at Hobby lobby. Not going for perfection, built for fun. Painting outside in January effects the paint chemicals, I ended up with a drip(Testors gloss white). I hope it dries and I can rub it down with compound once its gassed off. The other drip gets covered by the door. Then I have to put on the decals and shoot clear coat. What do you think of my first build of 2019?

Treated myself to a new kit yesterday as a re-entry into modeling. I was very active for many years, but my eyesight was deteriorating and it made modeling difficult. This summer I had surgery to correct my "young-person's cataracts" and viola! I can see again. Dick Mann was quite a character and I got to meet him a few times as he was friends with my parents. He ran this bike as a privateer without much factory support. This kit is a bit odd as it is in 1:8 scale which I never worked with before. I am building it box stock, although I will be painting parts different colors than directed because they were not correct. Here is the kit, it is a reissue of a classic MPC kit. The color as shown is wrong, the bike was a sort of orange/brown color, not red. I might have a difficult time getting a color I am happy with. Wheels and tires done. I was thinking of adding valve stems, but nope, this is a box stock build! This bugs me a lot. Race engines are not chromed, and I know for a fact it wasn't on this bike. What to do? I think I will build it, try to make it better with some washes. If I am still not happy I will strip the chrome off and paint it the proper aluminum color. Let me know what you think.

......Just thought I'd pass on some info I just received today regarding some Round2 releases.....the MPC 1975 DATSUN PICKUP is apparently out right now, yet I see none for sale on Ebay currently,,,the AMT 57 CHEVY PEPPER SHAKER and COBRA-TRUCK- TRAILER RACE TEAM set are due out in December to give us a nice Christmas rush, and the 1974 GREMLIN X is hitting the shelves in around 3 weeks. Now, the not so good news concerns the long awaited USA 1 VEGA PRO STOCK......according to the detailed email I got from Doug at Round2 it says that it has been pulled off lists and will be reassigned a new item number once the project gets some wings. Time, developing expenses, and other factors have pushed this project back to an undetermined status for possible release. However, Doug says it is going to fly at some point in the future, and by the sounds of it back tracking out of the MON-ZEGA mess as the Twister Vega was, could mean its well worth the wait if the car gets some corrections and improvements ......lets face it, once released at any point, this car could be built and decaled into more different pro Vegas than can be imagined, ROUND2 themselves could easily release it as a Grumpy Jenkins car, and even their old AMERICAN SPIRIT VEGA to mention a few.....the decal designers could have a field day....that's it, and all the news fit to print...lol............the Ace...

Which 1/24-1/25 scale kit(s) would be the better choice for a project? My goal is to replicate a GT model Mustang with today's wheels/tires/drivetrain via bashing/aftermarket.

I've been hunting for one of these for a long time. I finally found and purchased one on eBay tonight. The sellers claim and photos indicate the kit is in good shape and complete. And the price was right. I'm looking forward to getting this one.

These are the only two photos I have of one of my early efforts. I built this in about 1975, I think, from the kit pictured. I recall having to remove the rear suspension from the kit chassis and replace it with leaf springs and scratch built shackles. Like my Chevelle, I built it per NHRA's 1975 rules for Modified Production--from the same rule book I'm currently using! Anyway, the photos are barely worth sharing (the model probably wasn't that great, either!), but, I was proud of it, even so!

HI! This model started as a 1/25 snap rescue kit from MPC. Now it´s a model of a Search And Rescue vehicle with some extra detailing, scratchbuilt roofrack and so on.. Comments and questions are welcomed of course. Pics:

You know the release a few years back in the tin box with the 4" Road Runner? I just bought a couple of them off of Hobbylinc. My thoughts : What a REALLY NICE kit! Thoughtful, cool packaging, the decals are correct and... perfect, all the right parts. They did such a great job with this. You can tell, there was a lot of thought and care that went into it. Now, if only they'd do this nice a job reissuing that 71/72 Road Runner kit!!! BTW, it took my son 30 seconds to break the 4" Road Runner!

Why are the prices so ridiculous for the newer-issues ( Racing Champions , Round2 ) of the ancient MPC (et al.) 1973-1974 Road Runner / GTX ???? Even the half-arsed RC-era version --- complete with its 1975-1978 chassis and dashboard --- is fetching some stupid money ! Never mind that the Duke of Prunes 'Daisy Prunes' reissue is going for stellar prices ; it's that tin-packaged-with-some-character release that may as well be auctioned at Sotheby's New York Gallery ! What the deuce ? I hope that Round2 will release this kit again , this time sans and endorsements / embellishments ; just a nice , non-Prunes , non-tin-boxed version ... -
The LIL-Hustler is back! Sweet repop. 8, yup, 8 new tires including gorgeous GT Radials. Parts looks clean and straight, detail is sharp. Decals are redone and very clean, multiple options for Datsun, even as just letters. I was going thru some old kits & noticed the wheels were missing from my old MPC Dodge Warlock pickup kit. They are an 8-spoke in design. Anyone have a picture of the wheels? Thanks,Brad

Hey everybody, One of my main projects right now is this CJ-5. It started out as AMT's Dukes of Hazard Daisy's Jeep. The kit represents a late 50s to late 60s Jeep CJ-5. (Pls correct me if I'm wrong) and doesn't get near to the model that was shown on the TV show. But that doesn't matter cuz I never intended to build that Jeep anyways. As far as I know there have been several versions of this kit since it's release and I decided that mine is going to be a '67 that has been rebuild just recently. So all new paint and an couple of other goodies. I did a spring over axle lift but the rest is basically stock. This is where I'm at right now. Thanks for looking

hi everyone, just thought I would share some info regarding the recently issued MPC 60 vette......I am unable to provide pics, as the camera and photographer in my life is no longer in my life, so if anyone out there wants to jump in with pictures, that would be helpful.....seems quite crisp in general, some flash on the white parts trees, but nothing radical. chrome is very nice, with little flash, and clean and bright. tires are 4 stock blackwall polyglas style, but not lettered. slicks are the pie crust MH variety and lettered as in several other Round2 kits. body is very nice, little flash. decal sheet is exactly as the original, with the addition of a few more product sponsors like Howards cams, etc. basically, its every bit as sweet as the original in that all the goodies are included....tow bar, driver figure, rally equipment, skis, the works. the only slight difference I notice are the front coil springs, as the originals had working metal coils, where this has white plastic ones. all the parts are nicely bagged, and the kit has a fold up mini box too. again, sorry I can't provide pics, but any and all questions will be gladly answered.....I have always had a soft spot for this kit dating back to the summer of 69 when I received one as a gift......its just as nice now, I think the MPC guys like myself, and the Corvette guys will love it...thanks again, to the Kats at Round2...........best regards to everyone,....the Ace........

I wanted to build an old vette with dual headlights and this reissue looked like the winner. It was NOT. This MPC re-issue was garbage to build. Fit issues, over-pouring of the sprue so that the part numbers were not legible as well as excessive trimming of sprue needed. This kit is a 6 in 1, which means there are so many ways to build it that is did get confusing for the simple mind. I would not recommend this particular version at all, unless of course you need to brush up on your cursing skills! The end result was just ok. I went with a Tamiya Candy Lime since I have no green cars! Did the inlets gloss white and added extra BMF on the tail fins. The engine is the kit one which is a 283 with a blower. Nice fit for this although the headers were a complete joke. Of course I added bigger Mickey Thompson Sportsman meats to it which were a tight fit without cutting any wells out. I did trim the outside wells at the bottom just a tad. Thanx for looking!

Hi all,,got this at a recent DAMM swap meet show,,10$-- 1/2 started glue blob. I ez-offed every thing,,and went for this burnt orange/root beer color ,,testors quik dry spray,,,and decided to change the intake of the big 427. as well. Hardware store nylon step washers/spacers {8 cents a piece} for the injector tips,,scratch built injector tubes,,gonna do a few other "non-normal" things to this one. Well see what happens,,keep up the great woks! S

I got down to the basement today and got a bit done on my newest addition. I'm not sure if I'm going to use these tires and wheels, I am just using them to hold the frame off the ground. Wheels came with the kit while the tires are standard AMT Firestones. The 240 horsepower 265 :-) How far off are those rear wheel wells you ask? About this far! I made the template from the AMT 57 Corvette then taped it onto the MPC body. Looks like there is quite a bit I have to fill in. A closer shot of the template and wheel well size difference. I've been working on this 1980 Plymouth Volare, from the MPC Fuzz Duster kit, for more than a month now. I though I would be just throwing it together with some cool wheels and some paint. Since I started I have decided to do new things or things I have not been 100% successful at in the past. I flip flopped for 2 weeks before I bought it, and the original intent was to make a junker. On the way out of Hobby Lobby I saw a Maisto 2013 Viper and thought the wheels would look REALLY cool on the Volare. So, with 40% off coupon in hand (or on phone) I purchased both and started this journey. I purchased the donor Viper and the Volare the following day. In between I had a slow day at work and looked up all kinds of Google images of the kit and Pro Touring Plymouth Volares. If you're part of the Facebook or youtube model car scene you MAY have seen this thing before. So, the day I purchase the kit from Hobby Lobby I sat down and tuned into Youtube and one of my favorite builders (MrMinidreams) had picked it up and had the same idea. I'd like to see what he does with his. It all started with pulling the Viper apart, and trying the wheels underneath this beast. The wheels started turning in my head and I thought of a Hellcat Volare...what would that be like. I contacted Mrminidreams and he put me on to ClearlyScale and I purchased a 6.4 liter 392 cubic inch supercharged Hemi with 6 speed gearbox. I had to notch the frame a bit to get it to sit down in the Volare, but that what you do when you want to get it in there. Once I got the headers painted I noticed they would hook up really nicely to aluminum tubing for a more realistic exhaust system. Why not? I am trying new stuff. Take a look at the pics. Last week I scored this from that evil place for a pretty good price. Here is what is included in this version of the kit. Here is the box this kit came from The body looks pretty good. I have read where the rear wheel wells are larger than they should be, but then again, I have looked at pictures of the real car and have noticed how tall the tires are. 1/25 scale tires are not as tall (in scale) as the OEM tires on the Corvettes are so perhaps that is why the wheel wells look larger than they should. Just a thought. This tree has the convertible top, roll bar, an expansion tank, headers, and a set of injectors for the engine. Here is the hard top, front suspension, rear suspension, traction bars, front pan and hood. Engine, exhaust pipes, 2 four barrel intake, blower intake, and various other pieces. A close up of the engine parts. The kit comes with a standard distributor with no shielding for it. Not sure if this is correct for a carbureted Corvette engine. Wheel backs and engine compartment. The kit does not come with any heater hoses for this area. Chromed oil pan and valve covers, along with the twin air cleaners (not correct for the stock 56 or 57 Corvette). MPC removed all the custom touches like the open grille area and slotted mags that came in the original kit. Tires are totally incorrect Goodyear 10" wide tires. So, what do I think of it? I think it is a really good place to start building an accurate 57. Perhaps not quite as good as the AMT 57 Corvette. I think I'll try and use some Monogram 1/24 wide whites to fill up those wheel wells and I might just go with a single 4 bbl since I am building a 57 with the twin carbs to replicate a 56. I'll have to look in my parts box for the heater hose that belongs in the engine compartment though. Thanks for looking!
