Scale I Build

  1. This past December I took delivery on my dream car! A 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird Tribute car! So of course, I had to get right on building a replica of my replica! I started with a Jo-han Superbird body I had laying around. I also had a destroyed 1970 GTX promo to source the back window from. Many years ago, I resin cast all of the parts for the Superbird in 25th scale. I found that the Monogram nose fit right on the Jo-han kit, with slight tweaking. I also cast the wing and scoops from the Jo-han kit. Believe it or not, the Jo-han wing actually scales out better for the monogram kit, then its own wing does! This model is 95% done at this point. But since my track record on here has been to start a thread and never finish it, I figured I would do this a little bit different. I will post every couple days installments of progress as it was done over the last few weeks. This way you’ll get to see one of my projects completed. This was also a quick build, I plan on doing a better more accurate representation in the future. 😁👍
  2. Hi all,,hope alls well for ya during this madness we see around us everyday,,I guess we all get more time to build during this,,the plus side I guess. So,,dug this out a few weeks ago,,Revells Street burner series 70' Superbird. Painted with Testors quikdry rattle can,,,some minor wiring/plumblng,,added a hood scoop{it looked kindof neat when I mocked it up} Hand painted all else. Funny though,,there was no Rdrunner cartoon decal for the side rear wing spars/supports,,maybe a licensing thingee. Anyways,,stay safe,,and enjoy whatever building you do get a chance to do.
  3. OK everyone, I came up a little idea on choosing my next bring out your dead project. The 1970 Monte finished up pretty quick. So it’s time to choose a second one for this round. Below are some pictures of potential candidates. Whatever project gets the most votes by Wednesday 6pm eastern will be my next “gitter done” ?? #1 1958 Impala convertible This will be a replica of my father’s first car. The 58 Chevy is very near and dear to me. Here are a couple of pictures of dad’s car. #2 1969 Camaro This one is another family car. My mom drove a 69 Camaro in the mid 70s. Here is a picture of mom’s car. #3 1968 Hurst Olds convertible This one is not really too long dead. I started the conversion on this after I finished at the 69 Hurst Olds convertible a month or so ago. The question on this one would be should I do it gold or silver? I’m leaning towards gold since I already have a silver 68 hardtop. #4 1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro I painted this one around 15 to 20 years ago. The hood is glued in place so there will be no engine detail. This one is eventually to be towed by a 69 Phase lll Chevelle as part of a diorama. It also replaces the Camaro like this that I sold to Joel. #5 1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350 This is another one that was painted at least 15 years ago. The details are of my own creation. I had bought a set from Fred Cady But was not happy with the hood decals. #6 1970 Yenko Deuce Nova This one was painted in 2008 according to my Fotki page. It’s been sitting in red paint since then. I had drawn up decals on my computer but the trunk decals weren’t long enough to wrap down to the bumper. I adjusted the decals a couple days ago and printed them out. After listening to The Model Car podcast, I picked up a can of Upol spray clear urethane they had talked about, and use this as my test subject. It worked very well. The engine and chassis are pretty much done for this one too so really wouldn’t take much time to finish it up. #7 1971 Ferrari Daytona coupe and spider These are a two-for. The chassis and engines are pretty much done too. But these are very intricate kits by Fujimi. #8 1948 Austin This will be a replica of my friends car. And I will be giving it to him when it’s done. Unfortunately I’ve had it over a year. So there you have it! Eight projects to choose from. Please only vote once. I will tally up the votes Wednesday night! Please cast your vote in this thread.

    Superbird

Been working a lot of overtime lately. Makes it hard to get anything done at home, but I've a little modeling in here and there to unwind. Finished up this Superbird over the last 2 weeks. Kit is the old Monogram kit. Paint is Testors Graphite Grey, covered in Tamiya Clear Blue, and topped in Testors Wet Look. No decals, as they fell apart when I wet them... completely obliterated... Thanks for looking!

    PRO-BIRD.

Here is my take on the Superbird, Pro style..... Some serious work on the rear tubs and chassis to get it low, removed the leaf spring set up, and fabricated my own set up. Opened up the headlights and made buckets and lens' for them, got rid of the shopping trolley wing and made my own aswell.. Made a late model style injection set up as well. Had to split the hood scoop as it would not all fit under it after i painted it.. But that happens when you channel the chassis, and don't measure properly. Wheels and tyres are from the Dodge Sidewinder kit. Paint is Dupli-color "Mean Green" Acrylic.
  6. I bought this model on ebay from USA. The wheels were too small, the decals were dust and the wheelopenings where wrong, but it is a SUPERBIRD. It also stand much too tall in the front. I grinded away the exhaust, fixed the wheelopenings, added details to the suspension, made a quickfilleropening and detailed the engineroom and interior. Ihavn´t put on the sponsordecals yet because I want that "right out of the store"-look. I built the daytona back in 1971 out of an MPC box. That one was for real and I built i right out of the box. Now I become happy every time I look at those two "winged Wonders".
  7. Some quick interior photos of my first real attempt at wood grain
  8. I have seen some conversions for the MPC charger 1/16 kit, like the one from parry's resin. Would love to build one but was wondering if anyone has worked with them and if there was anyone who new where to get other parts for nascar conversion.
