Scale I Build

Found 4 results

  1. 1997 McDonalds Thunderbird - using the Stock Revell kit and decals. I lowered the stance, scratch built the exhaust and skirts, added photoetched grille and vents from Model Car Garage. Other than that all box stock. For some reason I had trouble with the decals silvering on this car (best practice comments welcome). Up next, the 1998 McDonalds Ford Taurus. If anyone has any tips or tricks with the Taurus model please share. It looks to me that it will need some lowering at least. I will be looking through the forum here for how others built this kit. On a separate note (kinda), I have been starting to think about what I will build after I am through with Bills cars from 1983-2003. I didn't realize until this weekend that there was a model of the Ford Mustang IMSA car that he ran with several other NASCAR drivers. That might be a fun build. Also, thinking about building some of the special paint schemes that were used in the McDonalds and Dodge years (Thunderbat, Mac Tonight, Viper Dodge). Its been really fun getting back into the hobby after 20+ years, doing research, and looking at models other people build!
  2. Revell kit mostly OOB, but had some simplified bits (which are actually carry overs from the snap-tite Shinoda Boss kit) swapped out with guts from the '99 Cobra. Front suspension was missing springs and shocks, so that and IRS came from the 99. However, while the interiors are the same sans small differences in door panels and seats, the SS's chassis had to be swapped with the Cobra's as the former had indents that were meant for the solid rear axle setup and wouldn't work with the IRS. My kit despite being sealed, had a horribly deformed (short shot?) steering wheel, so I found a replacement parts one from what appears to be a Monogram '70 Mustang Boss. The one off 5.4 DOHC engine (just DOHC heads on a SOHC truck 2 valve motor, which is different than the 4.6) while somewhat simplified and based on the 5.0 in the Shinoda Boss, was used as is considering you won't see much of it with the supercharger and all. However, the '99 Cobra's exhaust had to have the tips trimmed so it would not interfere with the body-to-frame fit frame and also had the tranny cross-member at a different place and shape and wouldn't work with the 5.4. So out went that and in came the brace from the Super Stallion chassis that was cut and placed to aprox it's original location. Paint is Testors Color Shift Emerald Turquoise cleared with Pledge. Color looks like a metal flake British Racing Green in the pics, though in certain lighting you can see somewhat of a shift to Blue.

  4. Posted this in the CB 2018 thread, but not why post it here as well. What I started with: Quick mock up What's done so far 7/22: Did quite a bit of scratch building, trimming, and parts scrounging for the 2JZ and the engine compartment. Quite a tight squeeze in there (won't be able to see the 2nd turbo once the cowl in in) and considering it's 1/24 vs the AMT's 1/25th I used on a eariler 2JZ swapped F-body, that made some things a bit more difficult but was still possible. Used spare turbos from Olds Areo on shortened and trimmed Ferrari Enzo V12 headers and made intake tubes from spare chrome parts trees. The idea for the intake was it to be ram air style for functionality, so I found a old painted radiator from a 80s Turbo FWD of some sort and used that. Exhaust is the old LT1 style from a 93 Pace Car as it's on the same side as the 2JZ's header and easier to intergrate going by experience on a 2JZ'd '93 I built long ago. The 98 strangely had a single exhaust tip setup so a dual tip f-body muffler was scrounged up but was missing the tips. So, on went spare aluminum stacks from the Opel GT as new tips. Also had to modify the radiator so the fan shrouds don't hit the motor as much. Also opened up the vents and expanded the snorkel scoops on the hood for better air flow with that tight motor and the turbos. Still have some small things and a bit of clean up to do motorwise as I plan to add in intercooler to slightly show where the lower front lights were, then it'll be setting the ride height/wheels and it's off to paint. Had Walmart Color-place Fire Red in mind to complement my older 2JZ T/A build. Will try to keep posted here and the CB thread.
