Has anyone ever made a resin, or modified a body to recreate the 80-82 Malibu Cup car, like the one Dave Marcis won in? I've looked all over with little luck, I'd love to find or possibly make a 1:24 version that fits the Monogram Chassis. Has anyone maybe merged a Salvino LeMans with a R-M ElCamino nose? Just getting back into it and want to start building some obscure early 80s Cup rides. Thanks in advance for any help!

My opinion this was a complete joke. The Clash used to be a showcase of speed from the previous year pole sitters, now its a slow-motion demolition derby. 1/4 mile tracks and heat races belong at your local short track. What does everyone think?

Two questions: 1. Has anyone tried to mate (can you say this on the forum?) an old MPC Petty Roadrunner body with a Salvino's Charger frame, engine, etc? We all know that the original MPC stuff wasn't that great. 2. Does anybody make reproduction decals for said Petty Roadrunner? Thanks!

Bought this AMT Olds kit at a swap meet 10 years back and started to build it out of the box for a Nascar group challenge. Did not realize the problems I would encounter so lost interest and it had set unfinished on the shelf since that time. Was at a recent contest where somebody had finished one of the Lumina kits of this same vintage. Was inspired to give my Olds a go one more time and here it is! Mostly box stock, kit decals with some extras from Powerslide and other Nascar kits. Paint is CraftSmart Acrylic Neon Yellow with Rustoleum 2k Clear and a finish coat of Pledge (Future) to protect the decals. Build has some flaws but I am happy with how it finished out!

So this morning I broke open a can of Tamiya TS-36 fluorescent red. I laid a light coat down over gray primer. It looked purple. (As seen here on the paint stand) I had warmed up the can, so it went on real light. I’ll let that flash and then started putting on slightly heavier coats. Something did not seem right. The more paint I put on, the more it went from purple to blood red. I was hoping for Richard Petty’s vermilion red. Not quite. But it came out too nice to take the paint off and start over. As luck would have it I have the Hawaiian punch decals. So I guess this will be the Hawaiian punch car now. I’m going to have to do some testing on spoons to get this color situation straightened out. Is it possible that the wrong color is in the can? Has this happen to anyone? Your thoughts are appreciated thank you!

I’ve been going through a stage lately of doing cartoonish themed racecars. The hood was actually quite easy. I always use Walthers solvaset for my decals and it works great.

I'm, relatively, new to die casts... I, only just about a year ago, discovered Nascar trucks and trailers in 1/24 scale.... I had no idea this market existed... Anyway, I converted a Nascar hauler into this 3 car hauler... It just made perfect sense to me... This is just one of about 6 I've converted, this way... I display many of my die cast cars on the backs of these things... Saves space... ?

I'm thinking of doing this one as the '49 Ford that Louise Smith drove. Louise Smith (July 31, 1916 in Barnesville, Georgia – April 15, 2006) was tied for the second woman to race in NASCAR at the top level. She was known as "the first lady of racing."[1] She went as a spectator to her first NASCAR race at the Daytona Beach Road Course in 1949. She could not stand watching the races, so she entered her family's shiny new Ford coupe in the race and rolled it. Her hometown Greenville, South Carolina paper featured photos of the wreck, and the town knew about it before she got home.[2] The race was the first race to feature three female drivers (Ethel Mobley and Sara Christian). The trio also competed later that season at the Langley Speedway. She raced from 1949 to 1956. She won 38 races in her career in numerous formats: late models, modifieds (28 victories), midgets, and sportsman.

I posted this project a while back when I first started it. It's been on the shelf while I did some remodeling and set up a new model room. I just got back to work on it and a few other kits I'd started. A little more work to do, and the paint didn't turn out as smooth as I'd like but here's where I left off last night:

Although I kept my models in display cases, some didn't fair that well over the decades. This one was showing some age. I used rubber bands through the holes in the base of the Johan cases to secure the models in place. Over the years, this caused the wheels to splay outwards on some. On the race cars, I guess I could claim it was extreme camber for track...

They're no longer in my collection, but I built quite a few NASCAR kits over the years and still have photos of some. This is the Buddy Baker Uno Buick Regal.

I was a fan of Daryl Waltrip and Terry LaBonte. I still enjoy Daryl's commentary on the races. I built these kits back in the 90s. They were displayed in my man cave for many years, but sold them with the rest of my collection in 2017.

Hi everyone, Here's a build I finished up a couple months ago but neglected to post photos of. It's Donnie Allison's 1969 Mercury Cyclone II. Or sort of. He never drove the flat-nosed Cyclone II, just the "W" nose. But I only realized this halfway through the build and decided to just finish it as-is. It's the Polar Lights re-release from a couple years ago and goodness was it a lot of trouble! The chassis fit was poor, engine details were soft, and of course it wasn't even the right car. Not wanting to waste too much on a kit that isn't up to par, I built this out-of-box. One nice thing about this kit is that you get 2 full engines. I went with the 427 and added the 429 to the spare parts bin. The red is Tamiya acrylic flat red shot through my airbrush, and the gold is a Mr. Color lacquer that is just stunning. I used Testors Ultra-Gloss Clear (I think). I used the kit decals and they were very nice. The chrome pieces were too bright, so I sprayed some Tamiya TS-79 semi-gloss clear over them. Despite all the issues, I enjoyed the build and am pleased with the result. And as this uploads I think I'll go pour myself a glass of Coke... Thanks for looking, Jake

I started this Mobius kit a couple months ago, then got started remodeling my house. I'll have a much better model room when I'm done but, meanwhile, I've put several builds on hold.

I may have gotten in over my head, trying to create my own classic NASCAR models that I've never seen kits for. This one is going to be one of Buck Baker's 1958 NASCAR Impalas. He also had a convertible. I saw a photo somewhere with this white/burgundy color combo. I'm also experimenting with one body, grinding off the side trim, then using filler. I've seen some old NASCAR photos where some had the trim intact, others had it removed. Once I get my model room set back up, I'll do some custom, water slide decals to match the photos I've found online.

Hi everyone, My first finished build of the year. Texas Terry was my favorite driver growing up and I've always loved the look of the Hagan cars and the pre-aerocoupe Monte Carlo SS body. This build is stock, with the exception of Chimneyville Decals. Overall, the kit was a nice, fun build. I used Tamiya rattle can for the body and chassis. I went for an early season red chassis because I like the bright interior. For the rest of the car, I used Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics. My biggest issue was with the aftermarket decals, which peeled on the edges when applying clear. But it's going on the shelf and overall I'm fairly happy with it.

I have not done much over the xmas period, but I did start to fiddle with the MPC Dukes of Hazzard Charger.... I do not plan to build it in Dukes trim, it is a hash up of a few different models; Petty’s ‘73 Nascar charger, amongst others. There is no rear seat, no inner front wings (fenders) apparently the engine is not correct, tires way too fat etc etc so I ‘m going to build my own dream race-prepped street charger mash up. so far I have the 426 cu in hemi painted and built, and I am working on the body at the moment, adding front wheel arch tops as the kit comes with nascar style round-topped arches- I have replaced tbe missing plastic with the bonnet (hood) gap sprue so as to have exactly the same plastic as the front fenders for material integrity. Stock round-topped arch closest to camera, the repaired flat-top at rear: That piece of flat sprue was shaped and welded in place. It even has the correct curvature, so hopefully no stress or strain to crack in the future: Arch is shaped in situ, small gaps are filled with tamiya styrene cement: Righthand arch shaped and primed, lots of wet sanding to do still before the paint goes on, but a seamless repair: Nicely detailed hemi v8, but the manifold headers come with no exhaust pipes to empty into... go figure. I’ll have to make my own from scratch. Other little niggles appear whilst test fitting; such as the roll cage which is designed for the 73 Charger just does not work in this earlier 69 body- more chopping and bending to be done then... All in all not a bad model, but to build it box-stock would be somewhat disappointing for me. There is also a cubic tonne of flash on many parts, everything needs a good clean up, though the detail is more than acceptable. Even the engine block has molded in cylinders and pistons, the heads have the combustion chambers and valves, and even the camshaft and rocker assemblies are supplied. There is a clutch, also never to be seen once assembled.... Obviously some thought was put in to the simple enjoyment of the build, rather than the show of the final result!

I posted previously about Kodiak Supply decal paper here. It's pretty amazing stuff. I'm a career graphic designer who specializes in motorsports design. Specifically dirt oval. That being said, Kyle Larson is my guy. With this being one of my first cars of making my own decals, I wanted it to be fairly simple so I can working out the kinks of the process. You'll be seeing quite a few more of his more specialized cars. I want to tackle the AXE Peace car next. I'll keep you posted on how the build progresses.

As I've said in a few other posts, after 18 years, I've finally got back into building racing models. This is my fourth kit back and I really do need to post my other cars to show and track my progress. I'm a recovering addict and this community immediately welcomed me in . The amount of kindness and knowledge in this forum is amazing and invaluable. For example, I posted a "wanted" ad and was immediately contacted by some great folks who helped me out with no questions asked. Without naming them, they were generous and went out of their way to help me. It means the earth to me and can't wait to pass it on. This is a build that I wanted to get started for a while now. I never built a NASCAR Truck in my teens, so I'm excited to for this. I was a huge fan of Alan Kulwicki, and course I was crushed when he was killed. I had no idea who I wanted to root for post-Kuliwicki, then Bodine purchased the team and that locked me in. I purchased a Slixx set of decals for this kit. It's an outstanding designed sheet, but even after three coats of Microscale decal restorer, they still broke apart pretty easily. That pushed me over the edge to buy some waterslide paper to start creating my own decals. I'm a professional graphic designer who specializes in motorsports design, so all of the design comes aspects of decals comes pretty easy to me. Once a certain amount of decals broke apart, I decided to scrap all of the stripes/sponsors on the truck and create my own. That roached out the truck, I'm glad the new decals helped cover up the bigger blemishes. I was skeptical coming in, but the Kodiak Supply waterslide paper is quite amazing. I used Krylon crystal clear acrylic for the top coat on it and was surprised with every aspect of the paper. I did learn that that I need to add multiple coats of clear to the decals that are thin and long, like the door stripes on this truck. I trashed a set of door stripes because it started to stretch. It's a quite conformable, easy application and has VERY strong adhesive. You'll notice that a Kyle Larson car is on the sheet too. I'll post it next. I really enjoyed building this race car. The kit goes together flawlessly (as do all Moebius kits I've built). Built OOB, body mods included cutting off the headlight trim rings to use the kit-supplied block-off plates, carefully filed and sanded off the side trim without losing the body lines, and I drilled small holes to depict the side trim attachment points. Decals went on without a hitch and responded well to setting solution. Overall one of my favorite Cup cars of one of NASCAR's past champions. Comments welcome, thanks for looking!

Ok so here is a project that I am very excited about! Building Junior Johnson's 1963 Holly Farms Impala. I took a 63' impala kit and am pretty much building the racecar from the ground up. Revell is back with the full paint and assemble NASCAR kits, first off the line is this Ford Fusion in Kevin Harvick #4 Jimmy John's livery. Looks great, no name tires but that is easily solved and most of us will want to letter those tires for sure. Glass is super thin and prepainted, roll bars are nice and thin, no short shorts or mold issues. Even includes a figure and full decals of course. Aftermarket guys will make a mint selling every race stable colors imaginable. I'm really excited about the Napa Chevy SS kit, I just like the Napa colors. https://youtu.be/GSILqvW28mQ
