  1. Another thread asked about gluing wheels on the axles. I brought up that I do, plus fixing a pet peeve of mine, toy appearance of tires sitting on the surface. IHMO it gives the appearance that the vehicle has weight, when the contact patch is flat. Go out and look at your personal vehicle, do you see completely round tires sitting on the ground? Military modelers really obsess about this, you can spend more money getting resin wheel/tires that bulge out too, the Bf-109 tires even has the correct toe-in angle. So why not do it to your cars? It also fixes the dreaded tripod when the assembled suspension is not perfectly built. For example, this Ford is Box Stock, it did the tripod, so did one tire more. You have to put it on the flat surface, get a worm's eye view, rock it, pick the "lowest" tire to do more. I use the Dremel with the sanding drum, working sideways (sucks when not glued on the axle and you go with the tread ?), and do a hollow in the center, so the contact is at the edges, otherwise you still see daylight. Lay down flat a sheet of rough sandpaper on the bench, do the front, then back wheels, again sideways. Sprinkle a little baking soda (talcum powder could work better) on the bench, shows the contact really well. Pet peeve fixed! ?
  2. Here is a little video on how I make red line tires.
  3. OK, I've found sources for resin Rockwell 2 1/2-ton and 5-ton axles, plus 66-inch flotation tires (or Terra Tires, or whatever you call them), but I've yet to find anybody that makes the 48-inch flotation tires...you know, the ones found on the really early monster trucks. Does anybody know if I can find any, and if so, where? I've got a couple ideas for old-school monster trucks.
  4. Greetings everyone. Was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fix/restore rubber tires that have deformed from age/improper storage. I was given a few 1/8 scale kits and 1/12 Tamiya kits that have wheel issues. Replacements are sometimes hard to get and can be costly. I would like to try and restore these if possible. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. I know it is likely this topic has been posted many times before, but I can't seem to find a solid answer. I am very new to this hobby and have started working on my first car. ( 1/24 Monogram BMW 635 CSI) I decided this to be the first car to work on. I realized that this kit was missing a wheel and rim. The remaining rims, which are basically just "plates" which lay on top of the wheel. (See attached). I was wondering, where could I buy replacement wheels and rims, for cheap? This kit is in 1/24 scale, and so I would probably need those wheels. Is there a certain place I could buy? Do they need to be modified heavily to work with certain kits? You can probably tell, I am pretty new to this Thank you for reading.
  6. I'm looking for aftermarket or kit sources for putting wide performance tires on a 49 mercury...but with a wide whitewall. It's a custom build with a turbo Porsche V-10, so I'm talking mini-tub width on the rear...but I don't want the super skinny sidewall like you'd see on most performance tires. But I also don't want the high sidewall look like stock...somewhere in between. Everything I can find (kit or aftermarket) is either wide tread and skinny sidewall, or enough sidewall but narrow tread. I am toying with cutting a pair of leftover kit tires down to make one wider tire, and then cast it, but it isnt going well. Any thoughts? Here's sort of the look I want...not too much sidewall, but enough for the stripe... What I DON'T want...
  7. These redline tires are common to see on restored late 60s muscle cars. But i have also seen the blueline, what are the diffrence between the two? Thanks in advance. Tommy
  8. Need Help! Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket stock tires for this kit? The stock tires are really really bad. Thanks
  9. I've been trying to find out the best (or most widely used) process of applying decals to tires so that they last and don't 'silver skin'. I'd like to get feedback from the members on their way of applying tire decals.
