Scale I Build

  1. This is a continuation of my previous post of the Ferrari F1 90. I had both kits and thought they would be a little different but they turned out to be exactly the same. Doing the same kit twice had its advantages and this project went much quicker and easier. I did make changes to differentuate between the two models. Specifically I went with the other driver Nigel Mansell. Colour on this one was also changed to Tamiya TS-8. There were more changes and they bare pointed out in the picture captions. Thanks for looking and please comment . Completed chassis. One of the big changges I made was the exhaust. This 16 piece assembly was a nightmare on the previous build. I deviated from the instructions and did this first using the engine block and chassis plate as a mock-up. Gluing the collectors together was the key and then fitting the pieces in that way. Once everything was glued in place I nserted this assem, bly in the engine and chassis and let dry overnight. These pipes were also the last thing assembled on the chassis. Made things a lot easier. Putting the exhaust on last made assembling the water pipes and other accessories a lot easier. Note the heat staining Interior has different seatbelts. These are made from silk thread and the hardware came from extras I had. I also changed the finish on all the carbon fibre and it was smoother and glossier. Tobacco decals were sourced from extras. Wheel color was changed to Tamiya burnt iron. Bodywork on this kit also had to be pinned on andI I did this first before painting. All the pieces on both kits fit very well. The exhaust and water pipes were an amazing piece of engineering when assembled properly. Thanks for looking.
  2. Knocking the stash down one kit at a time. This weeks feature is a 1/20 Fujimi of the Williams FW16 that was driven in 1994 by Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill. Williams actually had quite a bit of sucess with this car despite the death of Senna. they won the manufacturers championship and Damon Hill was second in the world championship losing by only a single point. Model is painted in Tamiya TS26 white and Mr color #5 blue (80%) #39 purple (20%) Kit is mostly box stock except for the Rothmans aftermarket tobacco decals. A few other modifications were made and explained below. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Front suspension was well detailed but went together tricky. The lower wishbone attached to the front nose cone and would move side to side despite a location lug. Once I was able to line it up with the top wishbone it assembled correctly. Engine had some pretty good detail but I didn't add anything. The rear engine cover removes so if I ever get bored I can get back to this. Most of the body panels fit quite well on this kit. But I still drilled the mounting lugs and inserted a small wire. The 6 corresponding holes in the chassis were also drilled out and the engine cover was mounted and these wires were bent over to secure it, This meant no glue was required and the engi9ne cover could be removed, which I had to do when I forgot to include a couple parts. Gluing down the engine cover was risky and this solved tow problems at once. Rear wing mounted nicely to the transmission and sat nice and straight.....whew!! The kit decals were Cartograf and laind down nicely where they were supposed to. All the blues (paint and decal) matched nicely. Car had a lot of tobacco decals that were omotted in the kit for obvious reasons. Looks better with them though. Had this Onyx 1/24 dicast in the collection so I though it would make a good comparison. It did n't come with tobacco decals either so I had an extra and added it.
  3. Just completed this Fujimi 1/20 Formula One car. It is the Sauber C30 from the 2011 season. Car was driven by Kamui Kobayashi (16) and Sergio Perez (17). It used a Ferrari engine and thier KERS system. Colors are Tamiya TS-26 whit e and TS14 bolack. Gunze #85 red was used for the front wing and to match the stripe. Kit is mostly stock with the exception of some seatbelt decals out of the scrapbox. See the captions for extra info and thanks for looking. Black was airbrushed and was a real challenge to get it positioned correctly and come to a sharp point. Some adjustments had to be made to accomodate the rear wing but once done it fit nice and snug. Front wing was the hardest part. It was 15 separate pieces and twice as many decals. Don't usually take a picture from this angle but I think it shows off the lines of the car quite well.
