Scale I Build

Found 6 results

  1. My first completed build of 2024 is Revell's 1985 IMSA Mustang ...Built from the box applying the original, nearly 40 year old decals! Expecting the worst, I was fortunate that Tamiya Decal Set and a lot of lip biting had worked. I used Tamiya and Mr Hobby paints and primers throughout the build. Two coats of Mr Hobby Super Clear applied from a rattle can finished off the body. I also added a thin gauge wire to represent a roof antenna. After the build I came across some reference photos and noticed that the real car had a NASCAR style window net. I think I'll apply one in the future. Enjoy the photos.
  2. Finished up my take on the Revell Corvette C7R. This one is done to replicate the #4 C7R ran at the 2019 Sahlens Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International. Unfortanently, the #4 car didn't make it more than 4 turns on lap 1 before being turned by an RSR... The build - Started with the Revell C7R kit - arguably one of the most frustrating builds I've had in some time!! This kit is borderline terrible in fit and finish. A LOT of test fitting and sanding / cutting, followed by more of the same. Thankfully I was able to glean some tips from those of you that came before me! Used the Classic Racing Resins C7R upgrade kit that upgrades the nose, rocker panels, wing, and rear diffuser. Fit and finish of the resin parts was okay, a fair amount of sanding and profiling had them looking decent. Cutting the nose and diffuser was pretty straight forward and a decent fit. Required some body filler to get the high/low but otherwise fairly pleased with them. The clear pieces on this kit were a royal challenge... ended up cutting all windows and headlights apart and fitting individually. A Dremel with a thin cutting wheel works great for this. Gravity Colors USA paint was used and dressed with Indycals and few customs I made to directly replicate the 2019 Sahlens Six Hours livery. Wheels and brakes are KMP-Scale Modeling which I feel really dress up the car and add realism to the kit. Thanks for looking! Inspiration: IMSA 2019 Sahlens Six hours of The Glen, #4 Corvette Racing C7R.
  3. When you love something you don't leave it. Well when you build you build a model you like, you build it again and again and that is what this project is about. I have done this one about 5 times. I did the motorcraft 3 times, the folgers twice. 3 I sold and two end up in a part box. But I wanted to start having a build collection. I have many but in boxes still and when I get a deal I buy them. Love the wheels and other parts for other racing projects. But I wanted to build it for me so I started to do more reserch on the car I found great references and now with more paciens and experience on the kit I decided to go for it.
  4. My latest completion. A Revell SCCA MUSTANG. I think it raced back in 91 or so in the Trans Am Series. I added some extra details not included in the kit. Also corrected the front clip, attaching the front spoiler to the chasie and covering the scribe lines from the hood lines. the race car does not have that. the seat belts and net and toe loops are scratch built, the kits decals were ruined so I got a new set from indycals.
  5. I have a problem, and I hope that the forum can help. I'm back in the hobby after a long break, and one of the things I'm catching up on is IMSA Mustangs and Camaros. But the decals in the Mustang kits (Folgers, 7-Eleven, Motorcraft, etc.) are thick and inflexible, and the adhesive is this thick, grey-white, sticky nasty crud. I haven't seen any aftermarket repops of these sheets. Can they be reproduced using the Testors kit for home copiers, or do I need to have the decal sheets sent out to a pro? Thanks for your help, folks.
