Scale I Build

Found 24 results

  1. Finished this one back in the summer. It is tamiya's R34 gtr. Pretty much box stock other then the aoshima wheels. Very nice kit and builds up great. The paint is tamiya chrome yellow.
  2. Finally finished one in 2020! Tamiya kit of a 1996 Japanese Touring Car Championship beast. Built pretty much stock & sprayed with Tamiya rattle cans. Nice kit to build. WIP thread here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/156325-calsonic-skyline-gt-r-r33-tamiya-124/ Thanks for looking ?
  3. Here's my 4th build of 2018. A OBB stock C210 Nissan Skyline. Looking back on this I really wished I polished it but another time. Tamiya paint n clear coat. Not much else to say. Hopefully ill have my first build of 2019 finish next week. Another Nissan with a fixed up exhaust too
  4. Continuing with the 50 years of GT-R theme here is my 2 gen GT-R I build from the LB Works kit. It’s all OOB stock. Here’s a little info from Japanese Nostalgic Cars website. “At the 1972 Tokyo Motor Show the most anticipated race car in Japan was unveiled at the Nissan stand. The Hakosuka Skyline GT-R was the most beloved touring car in the country, but its time was coming to an end. Nissan was unveiling the next generation of Skyline GT-R, the Kenmeri, and was so confident of its ability to continue the legacy that it debuted the car in race guise and gold Kobe Seiko 8-spoke wheels. Except, it never raced. The “73” on the side indicated the year the Kenmeri GT-R was supposed to storm the track. Before it could, though, the 1973 oil crisis happened and Nissan canceled plans to race it.”
  5. Here’s my little Kenmary Skyline that I slammed for the NOCO scale auto Instagram build for April 2018, Japanese cars, all kerbsides. It is modeled after a 1:1 car too. I love how the tail lights turned out. Just need clear orange for the next one
  6. Better late then never. For the 50th anniversary of the GT-R here’s my first gen Nissan GT-R build. The 21st of February 1969 was the release of the first Nissan GT-R and it was a very successful racing car. Here’s my street version. Aoshima kit with Aoshima Hayashi wheels, painted Tamiya pearl blue TS-58.
  7. This one is finished! Thanks everyone who followed along. And a few before putting it into the case for good:
  8. Hi all. First post here and thought I'd share something I just finished up, which also happens to be my first time making a kit like this so theres a few things I could have done better but overall i'm happy with the result and cant wait to make more! (I already have 3 more Skyline kits on the go lol) I have experience restoring and painting real cars so I sprayed this with automotive paints and lacquers, detailed with Tamiya acrylics by hand. The paint isn't Bayside Blue of course, and is infact a Ford colour I had left over, but I think it's pretty close and I'm happy with how it turned out. I decided to go with the Japanese plates for that full on JDM look ?? The interior was flocked but you can't really see that in the photos. I had never done flocking before though so that was a fun experience. Anyway let me know what you all think and thanks for looking. X
  9. This has been 99% finished for a while now, around the same time my R32 was done, I just procrastinated on adding the finishing touches. Overall i'm happy with how it turned out, all things considered (had to strip it to re-do the paint, issues like that etc), some things I wish I could have done better, but these are only micro scale issues so I'm willing to let it slide. I didn't like the wheels that came with the kit, they seemed too small. I tried using some wheels off of an R32 kit but they also looked too small, so I went with some spare R34 wheels as thats all I had, but I think they suit it quite well. Let me know what you think and thanks for stopping by.
  10. Another one finished. I'm a bit "meh" with how this one turned out. I dunno something about it just doesn't sit right with me, and I'm not 100% happy with it. But no point dwelling on it, just gotta move onto the next one. I did have fun painting the inside of the bonnet though I might revisit this kit at a later date and try to see if I can do better.
  11. Another day another Skyline This time I'm going old skool! I love all the extras this kit comes with! I've never worked with anything photo etched before so I'm very excited to start putting everything together! Not sure i'll paint the little man up, but we'll see. Thinking of going with black and red two-tone on this one. The kit: As usual work starts with finding and removing all the mold seams: That's all for now!
  12. This one is really kicking my butt. Everything that can go wrong seemingly has, especially as far as paint is concerned. This is my first time working with Zero Paints and i know everybody raves about these people but honestly ive had much better experiences just using rattle cans. Still, this paint is expensive so im not going to let it beat me, but for now this is where i am so far: The kit: The body and getting rid of the mould seams: Body prepped and primed: Everything was going smoothly as normal until... My nemesis: Looks ok right? Well not really... For some reason you can still see an issue with the moulding of the body itself...im not sure how these swirls are visible through the primer and paint layer: But thats not the only problem....look at the weird texture i have from the paint itself: Hard to see in the photos but there are these circular spirals in the paint, most visible where the door meets the front wing: I think this was my fault, as I think I must have put the paint on too thick too quickly, so time to strip and start again I guess... Re-primed and prepped for round two: But thats not where the story ends. I attempted to do the paint a second time, making sure to take things slower with thinner coats (compressor at the recommended PSI, airbrush was set up correctly etc), but once again the paint looked like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH and showed up every last minor imperfection in my primer layer, which usually isn't a problem as I usually put my paint on nice and thick (without sacrificing detail) which usually fills in all the tiny imperfections, but because you have to put this stuff on in such thin coats that wasn't happening...you'd think the primer wasn't prepped properly, however I did everything I normally do (primer, guide coat, wet sand to a smooth finish etc) but it still looked like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. I dont have pictures of this as I was too upset and annoyed so I forgot to take any. So I stripped it down for a second time and I'm currently trying to figure out what I should do next. I have a plan, but whether it will work remains to be seen.
  13. I think I might be a little obsessed with Skylines....lol Heres my R33. As usual, getting rid of the mould seam lines and worked on the panel lines: Then on to primer, but i forgot to take a photo of this, so on to paint.....which is where the trouble starts :banghead: At first it looked good, Ford Diamond white: Looked pretty good, right? Then this happened: Despite leaving the paint to cure for a couple of days, it was still soft and had left this impression on the bumper where it was leaning on something. I later found out that i forgot to add hardener to the 2k paint i used, so it was time to strip and start again. :banghead: I wasn't very happy with the finish anyway, as i had lost some fine details because i went too heavy with the spray gun. I'm not working with an optimum set up at the moment so im blaming that on my mistakes  One bottle of isopropyl alcohol and Amazon Prime later: Thankfully as far as strip downs go, it went without a hitch and turned out quite well, despite technically not having enough alcohol to fully submerge the body and chassis. Some scrubbing later and i was back to square one: So....take two: This time i used a different paint, from an aerosol and its actually a Nissan color so....accuracy? lol Whats most important is the paint actually cured solid, as did the lacquer so I wet sanded it and buffed it to a shine: So with crisis averted I moved onto detailing the chassis: Thats all for now! x
  14. On to my next project, i decided to tackle the R32 next. The kit: As always i started out by inspecting the body and looking for all the seam lines to be sanded down. Once that was done i cut the holes out of the bumper for the vents, this was not explained very well in the instructions lol And then primed the body: Next i moved on to paint. Decided to go with a black metallic. Lacquer: I wasnt too happy with the finish so i decided to wet sand it down with 1500 grit sandpaper ready for buffing. Then i broke out my rotary tool and the polishing compounds and had at it: Pretty happy with it now: Next i started building and detailing the engine and uprights: Painted the wheels and added the decals: Then got everything mounted to the chassis: Then started on the interior, went with a similar color as my R34:
  15. A bit of a pain to build, as I had to make my own interior door cards. not the best turn out of a model, but it will look good on the shelf. Finished in Tamiya Silver with 1K Zero topcoat - polished with Nuvous 3 part system. Comments welcome...
  16. I started this project about 8 years ago... 8 years... In 2010 huh and now its done.. Its Tamiya model kit of Nissan Skyline GT-R 2000, also known as Hakosuka. It came far from perfect, but its still pretty nice, and after all im happy i can call it done now..
  17. Here is my new finished build.. Its Tamiya Nissan Skyline, with Hobby design Nismo LMGT2 wheels, some decals from differend manifactures. color is airbrushed Model master Grape pearl, with Tamiya spray clear coat. First time i used Tamiya polishing compound, and i like results. This JDM tuner is far from perfect, but i like it a lot. For some reason i couldnt upload photos from my photo bank on here, so i upload them directly to forum.. Enjoy
  18. Hi All, I just completed my latest build, of the Nissan skyline GTR R34 Z-Tune by Tamiya. I first attempted this kit about 8 years ago and stiffed it up completely, so i really wanted to do it again properly. you can check out my WIP here: Now for the pretty pictures Thanks for looking Nathan
  19. Hi, I am new here and have to say that there are amazing models in the forum. Although I rarely do cars I do enjoy it very much. This video is somewhat experimental for me and I will be thankful to see your feedback! Best regards M.
  20. Hello boys, and especially to you Skyline / tuner experts.....I have recently been working on a couple of Japanese sports car kits, a bit of a departure for me, and have come across a puzzling question ..... Aoshima kit no.46, 1971 Skyline GT GC10 that was recently reissued some months back is just loaded with lots of goodies and extra parts galore, and one of the white parts trees indicates the 'GT section' for the suggested kit build , plus a 'GT-R' parts section nicely included as well,,,, but in between all those parts is a very nice mesh style grill with angled lenses, and a neat tail light rear panel sporting 3 clear lenses per side.....question is, in searching photos and details about the actual cars, I have yet to see that tail panel on any 1-1 car...the grill mentioned, of course seems fairly common for race car use and street tuner use as well....but ,can anybody fill me in on that tri-lamp tail panel I mention.... just unsure if it was used on a certain year of similar Skylines of that era, or its a custom option....oh, sorry but I can't post photos of the parts as I presently have no camera......thanks in advance, gents.....the Ace...
  21. I built this as a departure from my usual vintage iron. I picked it up cheap in Singapore after a day-long search of the city for a model shop that sold something other than RC or military kits. My previous build was a 59 Caddy, with tons of chrome, so I thought it was going to be a quick blast, being kerbside. But the carbon fibre decals were a real trial, the kit decals were also some of the most fragile I've ever used. The large decals for the door broke up, despite my extreme care. I had to leave it alone for a few weeks, as I was getting too angry about it... However, apart from the Revell 49 Merc I built a few years ago, this is one of the newest-tooling kits I've built. The fit and condition of the parts was excellent and required minimal cleanup. It has functional steering and suspension. The brake rotors were bright chrome, but a rotational rub with very fine grit polishing cloth gave them a much more realistic appearance. I added red buttons to the steering-wheel (Gran Turismo 5 was quite good source material!) Apart from that, it's totally box stock. The engine and exhaust are moulded-in. I used silly putty to mask the surrounding bodywork while I sprayed on the silver: The tyres are the best I've seen on a kit. I used a 10x lens and could read the size on the tyre wall! Paint is from rattle-cans, polished, buffed and waxed Thanks for looking
  22. Here is a tribute car made to honor the late Paul Walker. It's a 72' Skyline drivin by him during Fast Five. It may not be the best known car but it's one I really liked as soon as I saw it. This was also made for the Fast and Furious tribute build over in the community builds section. Ride in Peace Paul Walker, this one's for you. Thanks for looking everyone!
  23. I haven't posted here in a while as i have many builds on the bench and other things happening. Anyway i have finished this one off, basicly stock except i painted the rims black and used a custom mixed colour for the exterior. Let me know what you think.
  24. Haven't post much in a while. But I have been building at a turtles pace. Had some stuff going on in life, but it's all good now. This one took me a bit longer than anticipated, but it's done now. Kit: Tamiya Wheels: Aoshima SSR MKIII painted with Tamiya bright orange Paint: Testors once coat white lighting and Tamiya gunmetal. Suspension: lowered and cambered Interior: Tamiya rubber black and German gray. Mods: cat back straight pipe exhaust, cambered rear axles, bmf trim and cut out side windows. I'll take pics of the interior and chassis later. Thanks for looking
