j_nigrelli Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 anyone know why this site hasn't been updated for awhile? http://www.themodelcarmuseum.org/What_s__N...hat_s__new.html
Guest Davkin Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Mark Gustavson is the president of the museum, (and a personal, local friend.) so I know his situation anyway. He was very occupied with preparing for and running GSL the first few months of last year and since then he's had family situations to deal with that have kept him very busy. Just when he thought he was out of the woods in December other issues have arisen the last month or so. Hopefully his personal life will settle down soon so he can attend to the museum website. I'll pass on to him the people are asking about it. David

HotRodaSaurus Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Hi all, as a modeler of some years I love sites like this(Model Car Museum link), looking at things from a bygone era brings the past alive, especialy as I was born then but not old enough to be really into models of any kind. I would like to know if this is an actual museum, we the public could visit or just online. There are many millions of modellers around the world, unfortunatley not all of us can travel the thousands of miles to visit this museum and thought if the whole of the museums exhibits were put on the site we could all 'visit' and enjoy them. Of course a museum has to be maintained so maybe a small contribution payable then we could access the main area so to speak., the money collected could then go towards more exhibits etc. Just a few thoughts above, because like many of us I love to look at everyones models in the Under Glass section but like to look at all aspects of collecting and building as well, as well as some real class models from the past on display at the museum. John(in the UK).
Guest Davkin Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) The National Model Car Builder's Museum is indeed a phyisical museum located in Sandy, Utah. It occupies two sections of a commercial rental unit with one being primarily a display are for built models and historical artifacts, (as well as the Oakland Roadster Show diorama built by Ken Hamilton.) The other section houses a library in the front while the back hasn't been finished yet. Members of the Utah Miniature Automotive Guild help maintain the museum while donations from from all over the world to help pay for rent and other expenses. It's a big undertaking but thanks to the generosity of many people the museum not only is maintained but is constantly growing and improving. This link on the website gives you information on how to get a free tour of the museum. Also shuttled tours are held on Friday and Saturday of the GSL event. http://www.themodelcarmuseum.org/Tours/tours.html David Edited February 17, 2008 by Davkin
