More than likely the NFL will change it's policy regarding game balls, meaning the league supplies ALL game balls for both teams leaving no room for "creative thinking". They have the perfect opportunity now as well as a scape goat to blame. Yes I am from Boston, and I am a fan of all Boston based sports teams so I am biased but let's face it, if Brady was the cheat that he's being accused of then why hasn't he won more than 4 Super Bowls? They found an edge with regard to ball inflation and used it to there advantage, and the NFL needs to save face so label Brady a cheat and you kill two birds with one stone.

They didn't "find" an advantage they fabricated one. Its no an opinion that they balls were under-inflated it is a fact they where and it clearly wasn't inadvertent.

Just for the record I AM A LIONS FAN , wanted to throw that out there . Do not feel bad for me it is my choice . :)

I am just wondering why people are so worried about a few pounds in a football hurting the NFL. Cheaters has been thrown around for months. Yet only a few people during the season came forward with this problem. Yes both teams that were beat by the Pats. No one on the officiating crew mentioned it , they handle the game balls the whole game for both teams why did they not notice the difference. Maybe more than one team was doing this. But this is where the NFL is holding their breath. Why does this investigation take so long, cover up is in the works .

Now if you are worried about the CREDIBILITY of the NFL just remember a few things about some other teams. Art Model moved his team from Cleveland to Baltimore for a boat load of money. He gave Cleveland nothing in return for the decades of support from die hard fans there and across the USA, he only had a couple good teams in all those years and still wanted paid more. Why did he go to Baltimore you may ask, well the last team there left under the cover of darkness like a coward. Yet the league and the other owners did nothing. Three teams have left LA yet they are throwing money for another. CREDIBILITY over a few PSI is going to hurt this league , maybe if your team would win a few games over them they would not have to make up an excuse for playing badly or being out coached. Yes I know this well as I am a Lions fan, my team is being outplayed and out coached every year.

A football team moving from one city to another has nothing to do with players breaking the rules of the game. Two completely different things.

Not true. Once they get in the playoffs the team with the best record hosts the game in their house. Do you think a warm weather team playing in Green Bay in December is even? Sure they are playing in the same weather but if you do not live in the climate it will affect your play.

Your right about that. i didn't think of playoff time or weather factors.

I know near nothing about American football; aside from thinking it is a worthless waste of time and money and results in brain and other permanent injuries for those dumb enough to participate, a "pie in the sky" hope for a future for those youths who forsake education for a hoped for career in its ranks and an unnecessary tribal like division amongst its fans amongst other negative traits.

but...I don't think the above statement is true. the SB for next year is scheduled for the SF 49ers new stadium in santa clara California...and correct me if I am wrong but the season has not even started yet. how could the team with the best record be hosting that game "in their house" when the best record has yet to be established?

I think us Americans should remember the NFL is just a game and as William above points out is just nonsense, which is why it's so fun to watch. But to use professional sports (especially the brutality of the NFL) as a source for role models is not a good idea.

Cheating is cheating, and the Patriots will be penalized. But while the haters question their integrity on playing with the psi, why isn't there more questions on their blindness to Arron Hernandez's life as a murderer? That to me taints their integrity more than video cameras and soft balls. But it's too abstract of a connection to write a damning headline I guess.

I just want to say one more thing. The year the Patriots went 17 and 1 (the year of spy gate), the DETROIT LIONS won just one game (I think) and when I watched their last game I looked in the stands and it struck me that these are true football fans. No joke.

Wait, I lied. One more thing. There was another coach from Massachusetts, William Naismith (inventor of basketball) who coined my favorite sports quote:

"Athletic competition is the Enjoyment of the opponent's Character."

I read this in a small booklet published from the time of the game's 50th anniversary. I lost the booklet and I can't find any documentation of that quote anywhere. And that says a lot about our society ...

Here is how it works. Regular season each has the same amount of games , they are split between home and away games.

The playoffs are held at the home stadium of the team with the best record of the two playing that day.

The Super Bowl is held in a predetermined location through a bidding process. It is done a few years before the season starts, yes a Team that plays their home games at the location are able to play there if they make it that to the Super Bowl. It has not happened yet but some day it will.

The NFL rule on inflation PSI is 12.5 - 13.5, shouldn't it be, lets say, 13 PSI? The league wants a gray area because it makes good drama. When you allow a tolerance on anything someone is going to push the envelope, whether it be ball inflation or cubic inch displacement on a racing engine. The numbers should be black and white and not gray. The NFL could have avoided this entire mess by not allowing any quarterback to manipulate ball PSI. When both Brady and Peyton Manning asked the league to change the rules concerning game ball preparation back in 2006 it created a can of worms but the league let it happen. Now that can has been opened and the NFL has no one to blame other than themselves because they let it happen. Brady pushed the envelope here, I'm not doubting that, but when you allow the inmates to run the asylum this is what happens. The NFL looks bad here and they need a scape goat, just so happens to be Tom Brady got caught so lets make an example out of him. It could have been any big name QB like Manning, Rodgers, Flacco, Brees, Vick, RG 3 or even Andrew Luck but it wasn't any of them, it was Tom Brady. Tom Brady, 4 time Super Bowl winner, Tom Brady 3 time Super Bowl MVP, Tom Brady husband of a super model. Yea, he's had enough time in the spotlight so let's put out the lights because the NFL needs a scape goat.

"Pushed the envelope" I think the term you are looking for is "deliberate broke the rules".

No officer I wasn't speeding I was "pushing the envelope". It's the Governor's fault anyway, If he didn't set speed limits I wouldn't have to break them.

Just heard from ESPN.

Tom Brady suspended 4 games, can come back for game with Colts.

Pats fined $1 million fine.

Pats lose 1st round draft pick in 2016 and 4th round in 2017.

Other punishments handed down.

It's a freaky country ... if t Brady knocked his wife's teeth out instead of yelled at a couple of no names to make sure the balls weren't too hard, he would have been suspended for two games instead of four.

... ah the integrity ... the integrity ...

Yep, heard that.

Good to see that the NFL sees cheating as cheating, not "gaining a competitive advantage," as some of you have tried to justify it.

That's more then i thought they would do but it will more then likely stop the same thing of messing with air pressure from happening again. I think this is a stain on Tom Brady's legacy and the Patriots. This is twice they have been fined and lost draft picks for cheating..

Most fans think the NFL made the right call in suspending Tom Brady.

That’s the result of an ABC News/ESPN poll, which found that 63 percent of all fans and 76 percent of self-described “avid” fans supported the NFL’s decision to suspend Brady for four games and strip draft picks from the Patriots for Deflategate.

The poll also found that a majority of fans say that Brady and the Patriots cheated, although the vast majority of fans think other teams cheat, too. In fact, only 6 percent of fans think cheating is limited to the Patriots.

If there’s any good news in the poll for Brady, it’s that his reputation doesn’t appear to be irreparably damaged: A slim majority still view Brady as a good role model, and the vast majority still think Brady should be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame some day.

Perhaps when that day comes, we’ll think more about the Super Bowl rings than about Deflategate. Even if right now, Deflategate overshadows Brady’s other accomplishments.

So ...does Pete Rose then have a chance at MLB hall of shame?!?

Most likely, no.

Pete Rose was his own worst enemy.

No evidence was ever submitted that he did anything but bet on games, yet he denied the allegations and stood fast ticking off MLB officials.

Now, was what he actually did worthy of exclusion?

Not my call, but as a guy who has a current case for the Nevada "List of Excluded Persons", i.e. The Black Book, and has weaved the halls of the Gaming Board and Gaming Commission, I can safely say politics definitely played a part in Rose's lifelong exclusion.

oh, hold on. i have never "justified" this. everyone in every sport will try to get a competitive advantage whether you like it or not, it's there. in everything, sports, business, government, don't matter. here, lets break it down to something else. lets say I get somebody to put a great paint job on a kit, get another to build a completely wired motor and someone else to put together a beautiful interior and put the whole thing together, then I enter it in a model contest. it wins 10 awards. cheating, competitive advantage? I didn't do a darn thing but put my name on it and put it on the table. it happens in everything, you will probably never see a completely even anything. somebody will have some sort of an advantage, or cheating, it's up to you to figure out which way you want to play the game.

anyone see the Cavs/Bulls game last night, boy THAT game was played on the up and up!!

If that isn't cheating, please give an example of what you do consider cheating.

Plagiarism?

Lets say a grandfather "helps" his 9 year old grandson with a build, the youngster enters it in a local contest but "forgets" to credit Grandpa for helping him. The model takes first in it's respective class, who's wrong here, the kid for not giving Grandpa credit or Grandpa for helping the kid in the first place? If the kid credits Grandpa for the "help" he doesn't stand a chance, if Grandpa takes credit for the kids build he looks like a schmuck. I suppose if I use aftermarket resin parts on a contest build but fail to credit the caster that makes me a plagirizer too....

No, because his example said having different people build sections and have someone assemble an end product. The person in the example had no part in the build except for financier.
