Modlbldr Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 If I can get it to sit just like this I'll be happy. To bed for the night. Later-
Petetrucker07 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) Final update for day 1. Body is decaled and cleared. The engine has a nice coat of Chevy orange. The way it's lookin, all I have left to paint is the exhaust then assemble. I may be done tomorrow. Just a question, but should it be cause for concern when my three day build looks as good, if not better, than ones I spend months on? Just askin'..... Later- I know what you mean. My paint jobs usually don't look this good after I polish them. Nice work everyone. This is a fun little project. Edited July 4, 2015 by Petetrucker07
Belugawrx Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 AAARRGGHH.... Ok the body shell is in Dot3, having a bath,..paint alligator'd on me so.. Need to go into work for a couple hours, but I'll be back this afternoon Good luck guys, keep 'em rollin' Cheers
TimJ Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Sorry to hear about the paintwork Bruce, hope it turns out OK next time. Great work so far guys, it looks like quite a few will be finished before the deadline. I've got some more done this morning. The engine is painted and nearly ready to go in. The rear suspension/exhausts have also been fitted. The body has been given a few coats of Tamiya Racing Blue. It doesn't look too bright indoors but out in the sunlight it looks a lot better. I'm off to my local model club meeting for a couple of hours, more later.
Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Just a question, but should it be cause for concern when my three day build looks as good, if not better, than ones I spend months on? Just askin'..... There is a lesson to be learned there! I've done the 24 Hour Build and that makes you build systematically, so you are cleaning up all your parts at once, painting everything that's primered or black at the same time, so there are efficiencies. And you find out that half the stuff you waste time cleaning up... seams, ejector marks etc aren't even visible on the finished model. It does make you think!
Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Well, my amazing wife served dinner that the bench tonight. I'm gonna have to spoil the heck out of her next weekend to make up for this. Wow! Wonderfully pink beef and she even brought you my brand of beer! When you live in Pennsylvania nearly every bar has it on draft. You don't as for a Yeungling, you just ask for a "Lager". A bit-0-trivia... Yeungling has started making ice cream. Back during prohibition, that's what they were making instead of beer. I believe they said it's a small nostalgic operation and for local distribution. I've seen it in our grocery store, expensive and they only had vanilla. They have a flavor called Black and Tan, I'll get some of that!
Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 AAARRGGHH.... Ok the body shell is in Dot3, having a bath,..paint alligator'd on me so.. Sorry to hear that Bruce. That's where Rule 16 comes into play.... 16. Choose a kit that you have multiples of. Screw up a part or assembly? Don't waste time fixing it, grab parts from a second kit and keep moving I have at least two of the Meyers Manx. I've found the Cragar wheels to be misformed around the edge. So I'm working with the best 4 out of 8. Comes in handy.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I haven't even started on my Blazer. I work until 9 tonight, as well. I should be able to get everything that's supposed to be black in paint tonight.
Modlbldr Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Just so that everyone doesn't think that I'm farther along than I am my last photo was just a body and interior mock up on two loose wheels for my wife to get an idea of what it will look like. I still have a ways to go before it's up on its wheels. For now I'm back to the bench! Later-
knarf Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 went to spray some primer this morning anf it came out textured like sandpaper so it was off to wallyworld for some more. rode the minibike and made a fun adventure of it
Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Lotza painted parts drying at this point. Figured out my colors for body and seats... spent the morning up until now. And have to break a bit to prepare my wings and ribs.. and maybe do a bit of gardening. With all this rain the weeds own this place! And I have 24 good size perennials lined up on the back deck just begging to be planted. See ya'll later
Modlbldr Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Looking good everyone. For the couple who are having paint issues I hope it comes out alright. I have the turntable on playing some early Traffic and I'm back at the table. Working on getting the engine together along with putting the chassis and pan together. I've got to get the interior detail painted so that I can get it together. Anybody else have progress pictures? Later-
Petetrucker07 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Not yet. Our new baby is having a rough morning. At least I got a lot done yesterday. The body is painted and cleared, ready to go. The interior is complete, ready to go. The engine is painted, ready for the stuff that's not orange. I'll be at the bench at some point today.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 He's doing much better now. In between getting the bbq goin, marinating steaks, and all that, I'll get some bench time. Here's a shot of the body outside. I sprayed it Tamiya British Green, then sprayed Tamiya Pearl Clear. I took some creative freedom with the color. I think it helps make it pop it the light.
DaveM Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Looks great, everybody! Some neat models coming together. I am hoping that my Mother can get home by tonight, but we are waiting on another test. She is doing fine, but wants to get back home. Not only is she in the hospital for the Fourth if July, but this is her Birthday, too! (She was the first American born in her family, so she had to do it with style!) She is in good spirits, but she pointed out that she is in the Hospital, and her cake, ice cream and presents are all at the house. According to her, one of those two things needs to change! One the other side of the coin, she is in a city with an incredible fireworks display every year. (Part of their Riverfest, I think) The nurses pointed out that her hospital window faces the right direction, so if she does stay one more night, she will have free entertainment. Either way, I get to drive back and forth through major holiday traffic jams. It will take a day or so to get things settled down, but I won't be going anywhere except her appointments for the next few weeks. I should have time to complete the first annual "All By Myself" Three Day Buildoff sometime next week. I might tackle the Del Rio, or I might go with something slightly simpler.
Petetrucker07 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Good to hear your mother is in good spirits and wants to get home. Hope her birthday is as good as it can be. A little progress. I painted the trans, then left some orange to replicate factory overspray.
TimJ Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) Good to hear that your Mother could be coming home soon, it can't be much fun being in hospital on your birthday. The engine is finished and has been installed. As you can see the chrome steelies have been painted black. I'll be adding the dog dish hubcaps later. With the dark blue paint and black interior it looks like it should be in the 'Sleeperball'. The chrome parts should brighten things up a bit. Keep up the good work everybody. Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Yea, yea, yea! I've posted a few times but nothing worthy of a photo. So here's what I've got... has I've got most of my main parts all prepped and painted. Here's the body done in Testors One Coat "Firey Orange". I accidentally bought this about a year ago when painting my Dodge A100 pickup "Flaming Orange". I stopped in a hobby shop to get a second can, only to find out there were two colors! So here we go.... I have a lot of parts painted and drying. This kit has way too many parts in chrome, so I have a bunch of parts sitting in stripper. Unfortunately, all key parts like the two engine / transmission halves. I did go outside to do some of my weeding, got about 2 hours in, and it started to rain. So I'm back indoors. In the meantime, I was also pre-cooking all my barbecue in the oven. So come 6pm I'll start the grill up and have ribs and wings!
Modlbldr Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) I sat down for a minute and polished the body. Nothing extravagant. Just getting a little smoother surface for the decals. Tonight I'll get the rest of the engine done and the rear wheels on. I'll also get the detailing of the interior done. Hey Sean, get some photos posted!! Later- Edited July 4, 2015 by Modlbldr
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Tom great color choice. You might want to do a test fit on the cylinder heads. I started putting one together a while back and had fit issues.
