Hello all! I am curious to the methods used as far as the time frame between painting the bodies and then applying the first coat of clear. Also If waiting more than 5-7 hours what do you do to clean the dust and debris while its sitting around w/out effect to the paint!

Thanx for your time and response!!

With the Testors spray lacquer, I usually wait about an hour before I start to apply the clear. If there is any dust on it, I'll use a tack-cloth to clean it off before I start.

Good luck,

Thanx Mr.P I was wondering would the clear cause an ill-effect or wouldnt adhere that well if the paint hade cured for lets say a week or so! I will try just to experiment!

Hey Ajulia; just wanted to chime in....Raul is correct; but the re-coat "window" can vary greatly from paint to paint....usually hobby paints will work if you spray wet to wet; but if you make the move to autopmotive paints (especially urethanes) you must ask the store clerk; and read the labels carefully; as some base coat/ clear coat auto finishing systems have SPECIFIC re-coat windows; which if not followed; will screw the pooch on your paint work. When using testor lacquers; I generally spray at least one clear coat wet to wet with the base; to allow ease of any decl artwork; then add the final clears over the decals for finishing....a good quality "tack cloth" is in order as well; be sure to store it in a ZIPLOC bag so it will stay "tacky" forever"........matt

Hello there friends! Thanx for all the help and "chime-in' as much! you can never have too much knowledge! I use the testors clear rattle-cans and all my paint is the testors 1/4 oz. enamels I just thin them out for my airbrush. Id like to venture out but the rattle cans I have difficulties w controlling the amount being sprayed out and end -up with a blob of paint covering all my recessed -lines and emblems. So then its settled. At least one coat of clear after laying down paint semi-wet and automotive paint has never crossed my mind! Will have to look into that.

thanx again
