I saw it at SMW Telford this weekend, and it's definitely the Italeri kit. It looked really good, but unfortunately not easy to photograph. Somebody with a camera rather than a phone may have some pictures -- I'll keep an eye open. According to the Revell boss-guy on the stand, it's due in UK shops in December, but he wouldn't _promise_ that it would make it before Christmas...

I want to upgrade my Sunny/Academy Ferrari 250LM, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on which Ferrari 250 kit (SWB or GTO) I should use for the motor and chassis, I would be grateful!

Neither -- the 250LM is nothing close to that line of racers. The nearest you'll get for the engine is the Hasegawa 250TR (TestaRossa) kit. The chassis is more or less unique, though you might be able to find some usable parts in the Fujimi Dino 206GT kit, which is some way back up the "family tree" that led to the 250LM...

Thanks for the info, Matt Bacon.  I'll just have to put that project on the back burner, as I don't need to be buying 2 MORE kits to make the first one do what I want.

These are good news, Matt (though I have 3 original Italeri SWB's in my stash...), but then again, the picture on Revell's announcement is not correct: it shows a '60 model, while the Italeri kit is a '61 (different window contours with vent windows)

The block and heads are identical on the GTO SWB and LM. The LM had 6 carbs like TR and GTO. SWB comps and SEFACs had 3 carbs. The LM and 275 and 330 Ps were the last cars to use the columbo 12

i can provide lots more details if needed.

You could probably use gearbox from gt40 or P4. HRM has detail kit for P4 that'd help, add 250 motor or rmcm 12 too. I've done an academy LM and a Drogo nosed car to represent the 65 lm winner. Academy body is a short nose car. Actually prettier than Drogo nose imo.

Good luck.

I heard a January release date. Im deffinately picking one of these up!!  Sometimes my wife reminds ne that she has a Gunze high tech kit of this car, lol, but I don't like all that metal stuff. I would ALWAYS pick this brand over Gunze!!

Was hunting around t'interweb at the weekend to see if there's a release date for this... Only one I found was at 'Creative Hobbies' who claim it will be 'in stock' on December 25th !!:o

Santa is going to have to do some pretty nifty flying to get it to me on Christmas morning, especially as we're 12hrs ahead of GMT here.

Is it premature of me to become skeptical about this one by now, as there is still nothing online in terms of official confirmation, and rumoured release is just days away?

I mean, we haven't even seen the box art yet, surely Revell would have that sorted out by now if they intended to release the kit anytime soon, and it wouldn't be the first time they pulled the plug on this one last minute...

...like I said, the built up model was on the Revell stand, and the Revell guy said that it probably wouldn't be in the shops in December. If it's not around sometime in January, though, I'd be very surprised.

Thanks so much, Matt!

Interesting box... I'd be surprised if that was indeed the final design but it is nice to finally see a glimpse of the parts layout, which definitely confirms it to be an Italeri reissue... YAY!!! :D

I do not doubt your credibility the slightest bit, but where did you find the image if it's not a secret? I've been searching the internet like crazy for days :P

His picture says Creative Models Limited,  http://www.creativemodels.net/ is where it is from

And those trees pictured on the box are pure Italeri, pretty much as borne out by the only scenario that made any kind of sense.

Exce-ept - the tires don't look quite so blocky in profile as the standard issue for vintage Italeri subjects.  Could there be a swap in rubber?  Nearly anything would be an improvement...

I pretty much go for aftermarket wheels and tires where I can.  But you are right.  Protar is the biggest violator I've had experience with.

My pleasure. I think that is the new style of Revell Germany box. They've had to up their game following Airfix's redesign and artwork.

It's interesting that the "Skill level" gets more or less equal billing to the "Revell" brand...

Revell has supposedly standardized the skill levels on both sides of the "Pond".  Some older USA kits still use the  tier model.  The USA web site, however, still denotes the 3 tier.

Gotta agree with you both! That was THE biggest turnoff from building mine for years, until I decided to spend some money, and went for Detail Master's now defunct PE Borrani Wire Wheel set. Too bad that set is no longer available as it was quite nice with the turned rims. KA makes a nice set though............I believe you can get them from HLJ for a fairly reasonable price.

BTW, LOVE that box art! I already have another kit of this (original) besides the built one I did in the late '90's--------gonna get another one though as this car is one of my favorites!

I have a couple of Detail Master and a KA set down in the wheel stash, so I think I am good.  One of the reasons to buy and store, but eventually you use them up and then hope.

I dont think thats the actual boxtop, but that is the style. I dont remember it being so prominent on the actual boxes I've seen.   I'll try to get a pic of an actual box at work tomorrow.

Bumping this thread.  I was searching to see if the Academy 250LM has ever been reviewed, much less built.

Meanwhile, did this 250 SWB get released?  I picked up an Italeri kit without lots of important parts, planned on making into a resto-rod, and have some parts left over from the awful AMT kit that is in my Out To Pasture diorama.

No this kit was never reissued, and RevellAG no longer has a Ferrari license.
