Clay Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) Well the way I would do it is to go to www.photobucket.com and create an account if you dont already have one and put them in there. I think the limit for each post is 10 pics. To post pics after you download the pics to photobucket, underneath the pic there are 4 links, RIGHT click on the 4th one and it will copy automatically and paste it in your post, put each pic on its own line, i.e. hit enter after you paste each picture link. That is an awesome build by the way, love the detail and the BIG dump truck. Edited March 21, 2008 by jones_clayton

Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 What's goin' on... Tim I'm impressed! This was your first time scratchbuilding right? Onwe thing I was going to suggest. I see how you had to extend the neck on the detatch. I completely forgot. On some lowboy's they have an extended "FLIP" neck for trucks w/ the fifth wheel forward or on a jeep. That would have looked good like that as well. NICE JOB!

That would have looked good like that as well. NICE JOB! Thanks, I looked at alot of pics, but never saw one of those, that would have been cool. I guess I could explain some of the models, the Payhauler is the first thing I've built in 30 years, its not real pretty, ans I attributed the poor paint coverage to a lack of primer, but the Payhauler itself is a great kit. The Alaskin hauler is the one I was having all the problems with, The yellow paint I used didn't cover well even with the primer, then I stripped the tanks and made a mess out of them, after painting the cab and sleeper for the 3rd time, I figured,oh well, good enough. The detailing all seemed to come together though and so I started the trailer. By then I had figured out the paint. The headache rack is all alluminum, also a first for me, the next one will be better. The hookup for electric and air are 2 different sized alluminum tubing that slide together, one attached to the cable, one built into the trailer. I used wood on the trailer and pushed pins in and clipped them off for the nails. I am pretty happy with the whole thing, I have learned alot from the members on this forum so I hope the next one to be better.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 What's goin' on... Tim When you say that on the 359 the yellow was having trouble covering it was it that the color of the plastic was showing thru? If that's the case I've heard alot of builders say that they'll prime and put a base coat on then spray on a flat clear coat as a sealer then put on the remaining topcoats. Something that might be easier when it comes to detailing the flooring on trailers is this.... I use a needle heat it red hot and then burn the flooring where you want to put a floor screw. (The head of a floor screw is usually 3/8 tp 7/16 inch in diameter) For a little more accurate detailing the floor screws need to be over every crossmember. The number depends on the width of the floor board.Van trailer flooring is between 12-14 inches wild. On flat beds the flooring width can be anywhere from 5-10 inches wide this flooring is called Api-Tong flooring. So what's the next project? By the way. Here's an Alaskan Hauler 359 I build as a twin screw (tandem) day cab. I posted pics of this a while back but I thought ya might like to see it.
studioman3 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Scott, I tried 2 differant kinds of yellow (Testors/Valspar), They both covered like ######, you could see right through them and they were spotty, even after several coats. I then went with Rustoleum, and it covered in one coat, unfortunately, on the 359, it wrinkled up real bad on top of the Valspar. I would like to get an air gun, but am inbetween being disabled and /or retired, and money is real tight right now. Thanks for the info on the nails and decking, I don't really even have a place around here to look at a 1:1, so I am guessing on alot of stuff. I guess they would nail at every crossmember, didn't really think about that. Don't know whats next yet, I'm thinking of selling this one on Ebay and doing another just like it. Your rig looks great! love the color and the dumper is perfect. Wouldn't suprise me to pass it along the highway. Tim
