slant6 Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 How do you guys trim the flash and the little peices of the tree off of chrome parts without screwing up the parts? Or do you just put something on it after. Im working on a '66 Beetle, and it has alot of chrome body parts.
CAL Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 How do you guys trim the flash and the little peices of the tree off of chrome parts without screwing up the parts? Or do you just put something on it after. Im working on a '66 Beetle, and it has alot of chrome body parts. you have a few options. 1. suffer with it. 2. touch it up with Testors MM Chrome 3. strip all the chrome off and repaint with Alclad II 4. strip all the chrome and send it off to Chrome Tech.
m408 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Hey Will, If you have the where with all, do as Cal says. Very pro type solution. Otherwise, here's what I do. 1- Use a good "sprue cutter". Made to trim real close to the tree. Local hobby or craft shop should have them. If not, "google" Xuron company. They make a good one. 2- Touch up cut section with KRYLON silver leafing pen. Any craft shop will have them. Again, not nearly as good a job as Cal's suggestion, but works for a rookie like me.
slant6 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Good suggestions. Im gonna head down the the LHS and check a couple out. Thanks.
bobss396 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I also do a careful trimming but use BMF to do most of my chrome fixits. Bob
