wdcav Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Being I have several projects going at once, I've got parts of kits laying all around here. Usually I work on these in the seclusion of a spare room, but decided I was happier off in front of the tv while I did some minor work on several projects (USS San Fran. , Ferrari F430, 69 Camaro, and 06 Viper SRT). So admittedly, I didn't have everything stashed around in perfect spots, and may have been using a seating surface to sit down the car while flexing my fingers. So someone, who'll remain nameless, comes along, says one word or so to me, and proceeds to SIT ON MY VIPER!!! Snapping off the driver side mirror (this isn't the first for the poor mirron on the Viper), snapping a front wheel loose, and popping the body apart from the chassis. GRRRRR! Everyone knows what I'm doing and can see the mess I have around me of box tops, paint bottles, tools, and instruction booklets. How can one full grown person decide it's a good idea to sit among that kind of mess? Thank god for my heavy use of Future, as it took the nasty scrapes inflicted to the finish. They polished out extremely well, not even knowing the damage had been done. But the mirror will never be lucky, this is the second time someone has taken it off for me.
RodneyBad Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Well, ya know the old saying. looks b-4 you sit. Some people just don't understand what we do.. And that it takes every little space avilable to do so.
bobss396 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I always designate a "safe" area for models that are in final assembly. It can be a box upside down on the table, or a spot outside my normal spatter zone that keeps the model safe from harm. Too bad you had to go through that. My beloved sister is one of those that is oblivious to things on chairs, a blob of ice cream on the table. She has no kids so she's not used to having to navigate various hazards about the home. I guess there are more like her out there. Bob
James Flowers Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I've had people pickup just painted parts.I have had them pickup a model and drop the hoods or other parts off them. Most folks know not to touch my models at all but thier always has to be one that doesn't know better. I'am one who builds models with the least amount of glue. That way if I want to rebuild it sometime it is easy to take apart.
Cornpatch Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 My problem is not from the human side. The dog pictured on the left likes to relocate stuff off the hobby bench to other parts of the house. She could care less if it is painted or not as long as it comes from that table. I have been sitting upstairs watching TV and here she comes up from the basement with parts, she thinks that I need to watch TV with. And that was a special trip for her to go to the basement to get that for me. She has never chewen anything up but there is still tooth scratches in the paint or the plastic. She also doesnt take anything to hide it she always brings to me or my son, like we need it at that perticular time. She is like some humans, she knows its wrong and she is probley going to get in trouble for doing it. But she just keeps doing it. Its been this way for a little over 3 years now Jeff
Billy Kingsley Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Matt, you came off lucky. A few years ago, before this forum even existed, I saw pictures of a model that was totally, 100% destroyed because it was sat on...not repairable. Happened at a model show somewhere, but I don't remember who or where. At least that stuff you had happen is repairable!! Seeing the photos of the squished model, I decided then and there that I would never put models on chairs...I've held to that for several years now!!
