Good story Tom!  Tearing that load down, ridiculous.  Must of been a lot of cops too keeping an eye on things too.  Lots of manpower involved.  I just did a search on this 1166E, what a beast!

I'll bet you can still hear that blast!  Those cars were not especially insulated either. Insanely loud and scary.

Ironically Clayton, and I'm knocking wood as I say this , I have not had a blowout during the 2 years I've been with Schneider. The worst I have had has been a couple of flats that either were caused by a yard jockey running over something that ended up making the tire flat by the time I got the trailer or just someone else dropped it with a flat. I'm usually the one that gets the "I just leave it for the next driver to worry about" trailers. :(

On my trucks, the frame mounted boxes held tools, as well as spare parts and my extra fluid bottles. I had a box that sat between the frame rails just above the driveshaft. It was just 10 inches deep. This replaced the deck plate behind the sleeper I kept things like bungee straps, OVERSIZE LOAD signs, flags,  and other miscellaneous items In that box. When I had my flatbeds, there was a 5 foot long box between the axles on each side. Those stored my tarps, straps, my winch bar, and all my flat bed equipment except chains and binders. Chains and binders were stored in my headache rack. On my 379s, the storage box below the passenger door held my snow chains.

OK, thanks guys.

So, are these boxes lined?  Like with wood or similar.  Seems like loose things would bang around and if heavy could cause damage.  Any pics of these boxes and how you have things stored?

Generally they are not lined. Usually just bare metal inside. Some drivers line them with carpet scraps, or cheap mud flaps.
