Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I believe that Modelhaus "chrome" is all done by the the Little Model Kar Company.  Of course the finish will only be as good as the surface of the part itself, so Modelhaus resin parts are really well done.

How is the quality of the resin chrome plated parts Modelhaus sells?

I'm concerned with chrome plating on resin parts in general.  Is it at least as sturdy as on styrene parts?

The front and back bumpers , back grille and tailights on this Lincoln are Modelhaus. I've never a problem with thier plating.

Hi All,

Just talked to a buddy.  He said Carol told him if he wanted anything he had better place an order.  If you are able to place an order you probably won't get it until the middle of 2017.  Don just sent some 4000 parts out to get plated.  They might be shutting their site down for good soon.  The demand for their parts is quite evident.

I saw on Facebook over the weekend a comment from a reputable source that they had been planning to stop taking orders June 30th but that they were going to keep taking mail orders that were postmarked up to today.  The website is still up.  I put in another order over the past weekend..will miss them when they are gone.

Thanks for the heads up, just pulled the trigger on a resin '60's Dodge Pickup and the Shasta camping trailer. Saw a diecast 1/64th of one at Hobby Lobby and now I have to build it in 1/25th!

Sure are going to miss Don and Carol, hope someone can pick up where they leave off and continue the legacy of their hard work.

Thanks for the heads up from me, too. After reading this last night I quickfast submitted an order for some much-needed stuff I've been wanting for YEARS. Just the stuff I could think of offhand came to over four pigs. Of course after I pulled the trigger, I remembered a bunch of other stuff I needed so just submitted another order that came to another two.

But hey, it has to last me a lifetime, right?

Was sorry to see they no longer offered the removable hard top for the AMT '63-'67 Sting Ray roadster. I could have used a couple more of those. I needed a couple '66 Vette smallblock hoods and almost didn't find that either--they're listed separately from the rest of the Corvette stuff for some reason on the 66 Chevy parts page.

I hope I got everything I need. Luckily, I'm in no real hurry for most of the stuff.

Mailed in my last order yesterday. A whole bunch of parts and a couple of kits. I had to "wing it" it a bit as to the parts I needed, but I think I caught at least 90%. Who knows when I'll get the stuff. It doesn't really matter how long it takes anyway.

They will be sorely missed. They're one of the few companies in this hobby that you'd just assume would always be there. I guess in the future I won't procrastinate so much when I see something I want.

I did just check and the website was still up. Not sure if they'd honor the orders since it's after the 5th.

I just (an hour ago) got an order confirmation number. It's 12 later than my confirmation number from last night, so it looks like they're still accepting. Or were an hour ago.

I hope the whole cutoff thing is just a rumor. But I ordered a bunch of stuff I've needed for years, and will be using for years, so as my old Dad used to say, "It's as broad as it is long."

WOW, the end of an era!  Early this morning I placed my first and unfortunately my last order with Modelhaus.

I hope someone manages to buy the business from them.  It would be a shame for it to go away after all these years.

I had placed my final order for 4 kits and some parts back in May and I don't expect it to be shipped until sometime at the end of this year.  I have several other kits of theirs for 1950's cars already "stockpiled".  Those, along with the other promos and plastic model kits in my TO DO stash pile will surely be enough to keep me busy for several years, at the slow rate that I've been building lately.

I'm wondering how long it will be before we start seeing Modelhaus' kits and parts showing up on EBAY and/or at shows and swap meets at ridiculously high prices.  I'm sure a number of people who inundated the Holthaus's with orders are of the unscrupulous, money-hungry type.

I was considering placing one final order with them just to get in while I still could. Looking through the site for the last time, there were many items I would have been happy to order, but nothing to justify the wait. Besides, I haven't gotten around to using the last thing I ordered yet, a 4-door body for the Revell 1957 Chevy. I still hope someone can take over the business, it would be a shame to have those molds remain unused.

I'm surprised they didn't sell yet.  Model Car World's paint portion of the business was sold and is still around.  I guess it's just a matter of time until the announcement is made that someone bought Modelhaus.  It seems to be a proven business.
