Tube looks great Kurt.

Thanks afx,

I did a test last night with the Evergreen 1/8" inch square tube w/carbon rod epoxied in.

Then sanded down two sides slightly to create a more scale like appearance.

I think it will work.

I'm still still thinking about the reason for two brake pedals in the photos of this car.

Studying the pictures I have found of it, it looks as if it had no front brakes of any kind.

Could it be a trans. brake?... thought that was usually on some kind of switch.

Speaking of photographs, I just found yet another iteration of the Souza brothers car on

a Facebook post. This time w/the blown 427 and long nose, different lettering.

I did buy a second AMT kit, so I have a donor body to stretch the front end if I decide to.

Do like the look of the longer front end version w/blown engine, and think it would present

better. every thing else about the car on this later version looks pretty much the same .

The Revell parts pack 427 I ordered  is very much a bust, Valve covers are incorrect shape

and the rest unusable, so I'm working w/the 390 block from the Moebius Ranger kit.

Just need to find some properly shaped valve covers, none of the ones in my stash will work

What do the valve covers look like Kurt, are they standard 427?

Those look more like 428, I can't recall ever seeing fined 427 valve covers.

Huh...

Thanks for the input. this old car was some kind of mutt of Ford parts it seems.

I am just a smidgen away from building this as a (what if the Souza Brothers ran

a Blown 427 SOHC Fantasy car).  LOL!

Seriously, those are not quite rite but closer.

The Revell '66 GT350 has nice fined Cobra script covers but they are for a 289.  Use could try reshaping them?

3) is there a way to have decals made for this car?

I've seen decals online for this. I'm not sure where, most likely ebay, but someone has done them :)

These I already had in my parts collection, they are not wide enough being for the 289.

I dug around in my basement model stash and found a Revell 70 torino GT street burner kit

with some valve covers that look okay.

Thanks Draggon, I'll have to do an eBay search.

Your in fremont? that was sort of the home drag strip for the Souza bros. as well as Half Moon bay.

I lived in Los Altos util moving to the midwest in 1971, spent lots of time at Half moon bay beach.

Wish I could have witnessed  the drag racing scene there  around 1967 or so.:)

Found this Facebook post

Kind of a sad story about the car, but the picture is fantastic.

Really like this version.     click on the top right "F" to read full story.

Yes, I live only 10 minutes from what used to be the Fremont strip. I actually got to see the Souza Bros and Dad run in a match race with Brutus, Samson, and the Hairy Canary in 66 or 67. That memory was etched into my 13 year old mind forever. :D My dad flew out of the airport that backed up to the strip so I spent a lot of Sundays watching the drags. Kurt, did you ever get to Half Moon Bay Dragstrip?

I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this!

Those do look the same the cobra 427 script matches as well as the clipped corners.

Sadly no, just visits to the beach. Glenn, did you get a chance to look at the car up close? I can't find any photos showing how the interior was

from the roll bar back. Oh... wait... maybe you shouldn't tell me, Ive already rebuilt that part three times.:D

I found your valve covers.  They are included in the Revellogram 427 Cobra.  They are 1/24 scale so you many want to use the engine block from the kit as well.  This one is busted up but it will show you what they look like.

Well, I am still working on this one.

It's been a long time because I had to put the family estate up for sale last spring and packed up all my model stuff to show the house.

Now Im half way across the country in Idaho and have begun working on it again.

Still looking for those unavailible  Algon injection parts and just got a possible lead on some "Souza Bros." decals. Crossing my fingers.

Yah, another old thread drug up from the past.

Just started working on this old beaten horse again, therapy has not helped so I have spent the summer studying old grainy magazine

photos and any pictures I could find on the internet to figure this thing out.(lots of head scratching and scribbles on notepads)

Today I did put together a reasonable facsimaly of a steering gear box and got the motor closer to where I think it should be.

One major thing on this build is the color of the car.

Now the guy from "Fremont Racing Specialties" says he remembers it as an orange , I have pictures from the internet  that lead me to

believe it was "Ford Poppy Red". (In sunlight this red looked and photographed very orange-ish .) He thinks its a Chevy orange.

I'll post some pictures soon of progress on this.

Oh, has anyone got an example of what a Simpson shield for a C6 transmission would have looked like back in 1967?

Scrounged the web, can't find anything.

IIRC Chevy didn't have an orange in its paint range in the '60s until 1969 Hugger Orange, unless maybe it's a truck or fleet color. Or their orange engine paint of the early '60s.

The posted color photo on page 2 looks absolutely typical of '65 Ford Poppy Red, which as you say has a definite orange bent to it. I'd go with that without hesitation.

Good to see you working on this again! B)
