I stopped at the LHS today and was told he's sold out of Tenax 7r and is unable to get more through his supplier. Anybody hear anything about Tenax 7r going out of business (again)?

See if they can get Ambroid Pro Weld. Very similar.

Or see if you can get a small amount of bulk methylene chloride.

Can't say I've heard anything myself. When I was in Indy a few weeks ago, it seemed the 2 hobby shops I went to (HobbytownUSA in Greenwood, Indiana and Hobbies 'N History in Lebanon,, Indiana) were both well stocked on it.

I personally haven't used it since the last time it went off the market, and I switched to Tamiya Extra Thin.

Were you at Rob's on 200? I was there last week, and they didn't have Tenax, but they did have Squadron Plastic Weld, which looks like the same stuff. Even the bottle looks the same, with a different label. I think I snagged the last bottle from the shelf, maybe they've ordered more.

I have some ambroid but I prefer Tanax 7r, Snake.

Yes I was at Rob's, Brian, and bought a bottle of the Squadron stuff to try out.

Thanks Mike.  I'll get by.

What bother me is that a hobby shop can't get something from his suppliers but ti seems to be available all over online.  You may recall that Tenax 7r had issues a couple of years ago.  I don't know, maybe their plan is to run supplies low to justify a price increase.

I've used both (but not at the same time) and can't think of any difference between the two.

Actually I prefer Testor liquid cement (MEK-based) for most uses, but once in a while will make good use of the faster-drying Tenax or Ambroid stuff.

The local guy probably has to place a minimum order with the wholesaler that he's getting his stock from.  Often, when he is out of something and won't be placing an order with the wholesaler right away, he'll tell you that the product isn't available, so maybe you'll buy the next closest thing (which, by coincidence, he does happen to have on the shelf).  With the Tenax product, lately when the shop around here gets it in, it sells out fast because customers see they've got it and they don't want to run out of it themselves.  If no other product will do, get two bottles next time, and when you open the second one, it's time to keep an eye open next time you are at the shop.

To echo what Harry said, I found a bottle of that type here. It's not Tenax--------but I've found both this and Tenax to be about the same. The problem I had with Tenax in the past is that it tended to evaporate a bit too quickly.........in the bottle! I haven't used it for years because of that and switched to Ambroid.

Now that Ambroid has become unobtainium, I switched to the product I gave in the link. ;)

Tenax 7R is basically Methylene Chloride.  IPS Weld-On 3 is pretty much the same stuff (but much less expensive). I get it usually in 4 oz. or Pint size cans from my local True Value Hardware store.  But (like anything else) it can be purchased online. Here is some good info about the IPS adhesives: http://www.eplastics.com/plexiglass_glue

I've been a Tenax junkie since I first discovered the stuff years ago. So I was heartbroken and battled severe depression when it became so hard to get recently. (Okay, that's a little overly dramatic, but I did miss it) So you can imagine my excitement when I learned that Micro Mark has a product just like Tenax. In fact it's so much like Tenax that they named it the "Same Stuff"!

So I ordered some and it arrived today and after a few quick tests I can tell you with confidence and great joy that it really is the same stuff!

It comes in 2 oz. bottle (twice the size of Tenax) for $5.95 plus shipping.

And no I don't work for Micro Mark and I don't get a kick back on every bottle, I'm just glad I found the stuff and wanted to share.

That's all.

Yes, Micro-Mark sells "Same Stuff", but like I mentioned few posts above yours, you can get the same type of cement much cheaper from a hardware store.
