Chris Evans Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I had a question about paint I want to paint one off my models flat black or hot rod black, I bought a can of flat black and it still has shine, any help would be great thanks. model-a Chris,
Jhedir6 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 What kind of paint is it? Manufacturer? I use Krylon paint you can get at Walmart, in the can, its about $5 a can here in Canada and I find it works well. Comes right out of the can pretty smooth. And the flat black is pretty flat, there's abit of a sheen to it, but not much. David
Snake45 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 It could be that you didn't shake the can long or hard enough. That'll sometimes happen with rattlecan flat paints.Be advised though that many "hot rod primer black" cars do have a slight bit of a satiny sheen to them. If your sheen isn't too bad, you might want to just roll with it.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Rust-o-leums camouflage comes out pretty flat. You can also try black primer instead of flat black paint.
StevenGuthmiller Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 A coat of Testors # 1260 Dullcote will do the trick. Steve
peteski Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 With flat paint spray cans you really need to shake the bejesus out of them. The flattening agent settles down and needs to really be agitated well to get back into suspension. Shake it vigorously 3 times as long as you think it is necessary. Then test-spray onto a cheap plastic spoon to verify how it looks (before spraying the model).

Drake69 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 What they said. Dullcoat will tone that shine down pretty easily.
