maysula Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Hi This is the Otaki roadcar kit but I wanted to do the rally version with Björn Waldegård as driver in the Safarirally 1979. There is a Safari version issued from Otaki (very hard to find ) but with Mikkola as driver. I got help from a modelling friend who scanned the decals for me. Then I had some work with modifying them to the Waldegård version. I did some modifying in the interior , removed the back seat, some new instruments on the panel. also filled in with switches and a microphone. Scratched the rollbar. The seats are from my scrapbox, they looked ok I think. Most work was to scratch the front parts, made my own headlights and the other stuff too, used a brass rod for the front protectionbar. The parts in the rear is scratched too including the mudflaps. Thomas
peteski Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) Very well done! What surprises me is that even in large scale like 1:12 they molded the rear quarter window louvers as a solid pieces. I have couple of 1:24 ESCI kits of those cars and I'm planning on making those louvers as see-through pieces with 3-D printed parts (once I figure out how to design them). LaughingIndian Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Outstanding Thomas. Beautiful work bumper to bumper ...
maysula Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Very, very nice. How was the kit to build?HiThanks all ! I´m glad you liked it :-) Skip: No problems at all, a little simpified maybe but I think it looks very close to the real thing
ZIL 111V Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Very nice! beautiful work, of a rare subject. Indeed reminds me of the rare OTAKI 1/12th SLC Rally Safari version. Always wondered how the rally drivers handled those huge german (long wheelbase) coupes on African rally roads...240Z, 911, or Stratos of the same era surely easier to pilot than an SLC!
