wdcav Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I was photographing my USS San Fransisco for modelwarships.com and thought I'd grab a few of my previously unseen builds. Here's three I have in my stash that never made it to film (as it were, being digital). WS-6 The Trans Am I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I already had one that I painted red to match my real life Pontiac as closely as possible. So for this one, I cut the t-tops out and also dremeled the inside of the rims out so that you can see thru them, instead of that silly chrome backing they come with. (I did the same thing to the red model, except with the factory 16"s.) It's painted with MM acrylic Teal. I initially had the interior black like my car, but with the tee's out it looked plain, so I added some Navy 1941 Light Gray as seating surface inserts. I also kept the A pillar body color instead of the black seals on the real car, looks flashier. I hate black trim. Oh, I forgot to paint the fender vents black I noticed, in case anyone wonders. The Camaro I got a couple years ago or so when it first showed up on the shelves. Painted it to match then the only Camaro out, which was the silver concept. The paint didn't shine up well, it's a really hot silver from Model Master's Custom laquer line in 1/2ounce bottles. The Escalade I got for christmas from the gf (I smell a conspiracy here, models at christmas and models on my birthday, I think she's trying to keep me from buggin her). I absolutely love Chevy Avalanches and Cadillac's White Diamond Pearl tricoat paint. So my loves were merged and I painted it Bright White from a MM rattle can (mistake, wish I'd just airbrushed it) and then overcoated it with MM Gloss Clear Pearl. It didn't turn out bad, but I could have done better if I'd trusted myself to use the Badger instead. Dunno why I did it like this now that I think about it. But the Pearl doesn't show well on camera, yet looks nice in person. The interior was painted a Dark tan/leather mix on most surfaces. Then I got a two tone theme going with some of the Dark Tan mixed with Neutral Gray to make a very khaki looking color. Used that on the seating surface inserts and top of the center console, and parts of the door panels. Cell phone pic, but you can kinda get the idea. All in all, my ship came out better.
ismaelg Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Very nice trio! I am in the minority but I prefer modern modeling subjects. The Escalade is very elegant. The Camaro looks nice but the WS6 is my favorite of the bunch. Maybe because it's blue? Good job on it. Any chance to post pics of your red WS6? I've always wanted to do one of those in blue or black. Someday.... Keep up the good work! Thanks!
Nick F40 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I agree with Ismael, I love that WS6 though, of course, my favorite color is blue too. Any engine shots, I always loved these engine. I always loved the WS6's I saw a black one at a car show a while ago and it was beautiful and sounding nice and healthy. I wish I would have taken a video but I got a pic.

I just turned 27 weeks ago, so never lived to see the older cars except at Auto shows. I'll see about getting a shot or two of the red version up. The Trans Am is actually teal, but very very green in person. It matches very well to this color. And by the way, that picture was taken in my town! I live in Tipp City OH, and if you ever attend the Trans Am Nationals that take place at the Dayton Airport, you'll get to see my town. Each year when they all arrive in the area they have a Cruise In in the historic part of my town. They shut down main street and some side streets and line them with all generations of Firebirds. Usually get 400+ cars in the show, including mine. I agree with Ismael, I love that WS6 though, of course, my favorite color is blue too. Any engine shots, I always loved these engine. While mine is only a Formula (which looks more like the V6), I still got the LS1 under the hood. Check my signature line at CarDomain to see pics of mine. I have pics of it in the Trans Am Nationals Cruise In as well on there. If the gf hadn't gotten me the Escalade, something bad would happen to it. I could have done better. But thanks for looking guys!
