Longbox55 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 The link isn't working, or at least it isn't for me.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Just Google "mirror nail polish". There are several.
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) Not working for me either!Ummm...just Google it. THIS is the "link" he posted. It's NOT even a link. Wrong format, eh what?? http://have%20any%20of%20you%20tried%20this/? Edited July 19, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Harry P. Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Works for me too. And the stuff looks pretty good in the photos. But I assume it comes in a bottle with a brush applicator, which means you have to decant it, thin it, and airbrush it. Too much of a hassle for me. I've found Spaz Stix to be a great alternative. It comes in a spray can, so no messing with an airbrush... and the chrome effect is about the best I have seen. All the chrome parts on this model were messed up... flaking, and sort of a satin finish rather than shiny chrome. So the chrome trees were stripped, and all the chrome on this model is Spaz Stix. Judge for yourself...
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) the link is working for me. Works for me too. Well, yeah...after the link was edited 5 hours ago to be an actual LINK rather than a meaningless string of gibberish code. The edited link: http://www.bornprettystore.com/bottlesset-15ml-mirror-nail-polish-15ml-base-coat-p-22968.html The "link" as originally posted: http://have%20any%20of%20you%20tried%20this/? New one works. Old one, nope. Edited July 19, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy

crazyjim Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Read the reviews on the nail polish. People say it rubs off very quickly. I'll stick with Alclad and/or Spazstik. Edited July 21, 2016 by crazyjim

Harry P. Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 More examples of Spaz Stix... the wheels on this Mercedes... The grille shell on this Bentley... Grille shell on this SS Jaguar...

Judge for yourself... I've often thought about trying SpazStix Ultimate Mirror Chrome and this beautiful example helped me focus on trying it. I just looked up prices and sources and many listings refer to it as being for Lexan RC bodies. But the SpazStix site itself only lists one type of aerosol Ultimate Mirror Chrome, even though they say it is "specially formulated for lexan plastic". Am I right right in assuming that it works fine for styrene and resin? I had problems a few years back with Tamiya's lexan paint which wouldn't adhere to styrene. Edited July 22, 2016 by Bernard Kron

Am I right right in assuming that it works fine for styrene and resin? I had problems a few years back with Tamiya's lexan paint which wouldn't adhere to styrene.I first primer the part, then spray (Krylon Short Cuts) gloss black enamel, and let it dry. Then I spray a couple of light coats of Spaz-Stix Mirror Chrome and it seems to work just fine.
Art Anderson Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Read the reviews on the nail polish. People say it rubs off very quickly. I'll stick with Alclad and/or Spazstik.Yes, uncoated (unprotected) it does rub off quite easily. It can be coated with a special clear coat, but all the reviews point out that this actually dulls the lustre badly.I'll not even bother trying the stuff, after reading that.Art
69NovaYenko Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) Can Spaz-Stix Mirror Chrome be clear coated without it dulling or affecting the chrome finish or shine? My experience with Alclad is that you can get a good chrome finish out of it but; if it is not clear coated it susceptible to fingering or handling. However, clear coating appears to diminish the chrome like shine. To clear coat ALcdad I`ve tried Future (dipping) and Tamiya clear (airbrushing) and the results were fair at best. 69NovaYenko Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) No need to clear coat...hummm..I think I`ll try it out. Thanks Harry P. Edited July 26, 2016 by 69NovaYenko
FordRodnKustom Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 No need to clear coat Spaz Stix.Looks great on your builds above. I just ordered some. I'm a long time Alclad user but now looking forward to trying this, especially with the spray can convenience. I'll stay away from the nail stuff.
ChrisBcritter Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 OK, just picked up a can of Spaz Stix at Chicagoland Hobbies (thanks to feretzrus for suggesting them!).Harry, how long do you let the Testor's black enamel dry before you hit it with the chrome? And do you spray it in mist coats at a low angle like you would with Alclad?
Roncla Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I'm a convert to Spaz Stix after using Alclad for years. Its worth trying out shades of dark blue as a base instead of black.
GerN Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I've been using SpazStix for years and like it a lot.
