Was just curious, beyond the  `69 Chevy Camaro what other years and cars models offered a "Houndstooth" patterned as an interior option.

Hoping this forums collective memory could provide me with an answer.

Mercury Cougar. Ford Mustang. I'm sure there were a lot more. There were some interesting trends in car back the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I miss it. By the way, the Cougar was even available with a houndstooth vinyl roof at one point.

Your kinding...I certainly didn`t know that factoid. Thanks for the reply.

Let's see if I remember my Camaro Houdtooth factoids correctly.

First became available mid-'68, in either black or white.

Continued in '69, with colors orange and yellow added. Yellow is almost certainly the rarest.

Now I forget, was HT only available with the Custom interiors, or with the standard interior too? I'm thinking Custom only, but I could be wrong. Guess I should dig out one of my six or eight early Camaro reference books and look it up....B)

Wouldn't kid you about that. The only odder thing in vinyl roofs were Chrysler's flower pattern roofs offered on certain Plymouths at about the same time. It was a fun and interesting time. Even though I don't like things like vinyl roofs. I miss some of the weird things auto manufacturers use to do back then. Interior wise, I still love a lot of the pattern cloths you use to see. Especially on the upper priced luxury cars. Heck. I still like velour. Beats leather in comfort and looks that everybody else seems to like now days.

The good old "Mod Tops".

Steve

And Chrysler had a LOT of Mod Top material left over.  That wasn't a popular option.

Well, waste not, want not. What to do with all that leftover flowery material? Easy - just dye it Burgundy. Then re-cycle it for the special burgundy vinyl roof of the limited-edition Sparkling Burgundy Metallic '71 Imperial.

So Chrysler shipped all those spiffy new Imps, with freshly-dyed burgundy vinyl tops, to the dealers. Where they sat out in rain, sleet, snow...

You can probably guess what happened next. But this article from the Imperial Club tells it a lot better:

EDIT for on-topic: here's a Houndstooth interior in the 1967 Mazda Cosmo 110:

The hound's-tooth cloth was only available with the custom interior trim on the '68 and '69 Camaro. In 1967, Cadillac offered a hound's-tooth cloth option for the Eldorado, called Dalmatian Cloth.

Scale Motorsport has a very nice hound's-tooth pattern cloth in their interior decal line, which I have successfully used on several builds, and I highly recommend it. I used it on my '60 Chevy Impala Convertible.

A great story. I had never heard that one before. I wonder if there are many Imperials left out there with that top? I doubt it. Be kind or cool, and ugly, to have one.

'78 Ford Fiestas could be had with really large houndstooth pattern seats- I have a couple out in the shed that still have some fabric left

Cyclones as well.

Buick had it in '73, referring to it as "Manchester Cloth" - my ex-boss has a '73 Estate Wagon with that treatment.

1971-1974 Dodge and Plymouth models had houndstooth as an option : Dart , Demon , Charger , 1971 Challenger , Coronet ; Duster,  Valiant , Scamp , Road Runner , GTX,  Satellite,  1971 Barracuda .

The best source for Chrysler:  Hamtramck Historical

P.S.  : I love the 1969 Camaro Daytona Yellow houndstooth!

The Hounds Tooth pattern and many others were very popular into the early 80's on many American built autos. They looked much better than the vinyl seats in most cases. It is now unusual to find a cloth type interior of any kind, Leather interior is now the norm. If you think back to the dawn of the automobile the seating was almost always leather. This was replaced by Mohair, also known as mouse fur . Could it be that the 2020 Camaro Z-28 will be offered with custom Hound Tooth cloth interior? We will just have to wait and see.

Buick offered it at least through 76 or 77 in their midsizers.  I remember running across quite a few Century Special Landau coupes during my junkyard crawling in the '90s that had that upholstery.  Remember seeing them in white/black and white/blue, not sure if they offered any other color variations...

A friend of mine had a '68 (or was it a year or two later?) 396 SS Nova that was supposedly a very accurate restoration and it had B&W hound's-tooth inserts.

Never heard of this, and I was unable to confirm it with a casual google search, but I'm not doubting it, especially for '69. There was quite a bit of crossover between Camaro and Nova stuff, and I think they might have even used the same buckets. Not hard to imagine Camaro custom buckets being offered in the Nova (black only, I presume).

Did the rear seats have the houndstooth too, or just the fronts?

You know I was racking my brain when I posted that comment regarding that, and I am not sure.  I think it did have it in the rear seats, but I can't swear to it.   It was a black on black car.

Speaking of weird patterns, I once owned a '72 or '74 Dodge Duster Super Sport (still a slant-6 and automatic) which was painted beige with a genuine snakeskin vinyl roof!  I bought it as a beater for couple hundred dollars in the '80s.  I'll never forget the snakeskin roof!
