Harry P. Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I don't see the problem. Someone out there will feel it's worth the asking price. Some won't. It's you free will to buy or take a pass. I see absolutely no problem with the seller asking whatever he wants for his merchandise. It's called capitalism. It's the system we live under. Get used to it.
SfanGoch Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 That beauty sure would look purty displayed next to one of your Pochers.
Rob Hall Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 If it were mint unbuilt, I could see it near that price perhaps...but this one has the custom crud glued to it, and the '63 Olds has been reissued...
SfanGoch Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Yeah, but this is original custom crud. Seriously though, people will sell at what some consider a ridiculous price because somebody will bite and buy. Sometimes, it's a matter of "If I don't jump on it now, it'll cost more later" mentality. Also, notice that it wasn't offered at auction. If he did, he'd be lucky if he'd pocket twenty bucks, maybe.
Rob Hall Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I might pay that much for an original mint unbuilt Johan '60 Olds ht, though...I have the '59, and the '60-63 kits in my stash.
Harry P. Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 That beauty sure would look purty displayed next to one of your Pochers. That baby puts my Pochers to shame.

SfanGoch Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 If anyone is interested, Model Car Mountain has an open unbuilt '63 Starfire available for $49.99.
Harry P. Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Wow That's some pretty bright green plastic! Maybe a St. Patrick's Day parade car?
SfanGoch Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Enough to trigger a seizure if you stare at it long enough. It would compliment the blue plastic of one of my Turbine Cars nicely.
Harry P. Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Enough to trigger a seizure if you stare at it long enough... Far out, man...
Rob Hall Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I have a Johan Superbird molded in that bright green..
slusher Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Funny Joe, Johan sure had some wild colors... I no idea what's going on with the quote button... Edited August 12, 2016 by slusher
slusher Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 So true Harry, but you have sellers seeing what some of the other strange sellers are getting and decide well I am going to raise or sell mine at rip off prices and now ebay is not as good as it once was

The seller does. All ebay does is bring buyers and sellers together, they don't control pricing.
Snake45 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Wow That's some pretty bright green plastic! Maybe a St. Patrick's Day parade car? Indeed! I don't think I've ever seen a model car molded in that particular color. Would love to have something that color. I like to polish up pretty-colored plastic, and greens are hard to find. Greens, purples, and orange.
MrObsessive Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 But remember, Carl... ebay doesn't set the selling price. The seller does. All ebay does is bring buyers and sellers together, they don't control pricing. That's true Harry, but my question still stands-----------how low does one's feedback have to go before eBay will kick them out? I say this because I know of folks whose accounts were dropped for no good reason, and they were never able to get in with eBay again. They had good if not excellent feedback with buyers, and eBay dropped their accounts. This fella is operating with a 93% feedback, and he's still in business-----switching I.D. usernames notwithstanding.Maybe someone out there that knows the inside dealings with eBay can tell?
Mike999 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks to the OP, and I love "stupid eBay seller" threads. That is all.
iamsuperdan Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Personally, I overprice everything I sell on Ebay or Kijiji. Not to the extent that guy does though. And quite often, people will pay my asking price. Which I enjoy very much.Mainly due to dealings on Kijiji. No matter what I price something at, the offers are crazy low. I put a guitar on for $500 and want to get $350 out of it. Then get offers of $100.
Tom Geiger Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Mainly due to dealings on Kijiji. No matter what I price something at, the offers are crazy low. I put a guitar on for $500 and want to get $350 out of it. Then get offers of $100.My wife put a couple of her very expensive and lightly used Coach pocketbooks on Craigslist and people were calling offering $25 each for them.
pharoah Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Yes Ebay (and other online sites) are full of ads like that. As far as his feedback goes ,yes it is low ,but for no more than he has ,it doesn't take much to drag it down.
Ben Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 The main thing about Ebay that disgusts me is the new trend of buying a kit and then selling each part seperatly! If the prices were reasonable, it would be great but these guys are asking as much for one single part, as the whole kit costs!!! That's just taking advantage of people, plain and simple!
SfanGoch Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Saw this a few minutes ago: RAREST MODEL KIT EVER! Original ©1962 SMP/AMT 1911 Chevrolet Model Car Kit w/Bag Anybody got a spare $1724.49 lying around?

I'm sure as snot not going to buy a plastic model for almost 2.

Original ©1962 SMP/AMT 1911 Chevrolet Model Car Kit w/Bag Anybody got a spare $1724.49 lying around? Yikes!! The main thing about Ebay that disgusts me is the new trend of buying a kit and then selling each part seperatly! If the prices were reasonable, it would be great but these guys are asking as much for one single part, as the whole kit costs!!! That's just taking advantage of people, plain and simple! That kinda bugs me too, but I'll admit being one of those that's bought parts simply because buying a whole kit was a bit cost prohibitive, and seemed like "wasting a kit" to me. Unfortunately with Don and Carol out of the picture now, you can bet those price gougers will clean up as parts get harder and harder to come by unless someone semi picks up where they left off. Or....................as I keep saying-----more and more folks become proficient in 3D printing and make their own stuff!
