Harry ihave brought this to you and Gregs attention about how easy it is to edit another persons thread all one has to do is reply to this topic and move the cursor to others person writing on the post and then you have complete control of the persons thread

this really should be fixed to edit someone post is ridiculous

I have had maybe a dozen of these in my 49 years and I have fallen asleep during at least half of them. It is loud, but rhythmic and apparently that is all I need to relax and fall asleep. Go figure.

It is amazing what those things can see. You can look at the film and never see what the experts are trained to pick out. Hopefully they find the cause of your pain Harry.

Good to have this elevated to the MRI stage.  I share the anxiety about the machine - just had to turn the brain off for 20 minutes...

So, did you look at the disc?  The files should open with a program on your computer.  Interesting stuff and you may find a new avatar.

Harry, he MRI is an interesting experience I will agree.  Depending on what your Dr finds cortisone shots in the disc area may be one option.  Just want to say the shot wasn't as bad as it sounds and they did seem to work for me in the short term.  each person is different.  They put you out while they do it and I never had any discomfort.

Sciatica is no fun. Good luck.

Harry, I've had 4 MRI's and they all go about the same as your experience. My last one was a full spine so I was in the machine for about an hour and 20 minutes. It seems like most places give you headphones that only block enough noise to keep you from going deaf. I bring good foam earplugs to wear with the ear muffs or headphones they provide, this cuts the noise to less than a dull roar. They can be purchased at most drug stores for fairly cheap. Kind of off topic but I also wear the foam earplugs when I ride my motorcycle and on long trips I feel considerably less fatigue. Having spent most of my adult life as an engineer on a ship I know a thing or two about tight, loud places and its incredible how fatiguing loud noises are. Good luck with the orthopedist, I had discectomies(sp?) on 2 discs and it not only greatly improved my back pain but saved my career.

I can see we have a person here that likes to hijack others thread

who ever wrote Blah Blah and so on in my posting your are a real funny guy however o know how to hijack a thread or to say edit the thread I know who you are here is a clue HIgh..

The site has an auto edit feature of some kind that will turn any word on it's list into the BLAH_BLAH that you are seeing. For example you can type carp and that will be fine but if you switch the a and r you will get BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.

OK, here's an interesting sidebar to the whole MRI story...

My crapola insurance plan (thank you, Obamacare) didn't have even ONE orthopedic specialist in their network to see me. But I was (and am) in so much pain that I had to see one... so I found one "out of network" and figured I'd just have to pay for his services out of my own pocket. He was the doc who wrote up the MRI order.

Well, it turns out my crapola insurance company refused to cover the cost of the MRI, because the referring doc was "out of their network." After several phone calls between my crapola insurance company and the imaging lab and the orthopedist, Michelle, the admin at the imaging lab, was such a sweetheart! She knew exactly the insurance BS I was going through, and she told me not to worry... they would do the MRI for free as a courtesy to me to make up for all the red tape I was going through, even though the imaging lab was in no way at fault for the mess.

How about that! There still are good-hearted people out there who respond to a patient's needs, not to money. I could hardly believe it. God bless her.

This is shocking. It's hard to imagine that any carrier has no orthopedist in their network. Orthopedic injuries make up such a large part of medical claims that they should have several go-to docs for their insureds. What are you paying for if not coverage for one of the most common conditions? Given the symptoms you describe it is likely that you have a disc impingement. The least invasive course of treatment would be physical therapy, but perhaps you will need injections or possibly surgery. Hope not, but none of this is free nor cheap. I would file an appeal with the carrier, a complaint with your state's Department of Insurance, and HealthCare.gov. Carriers hate to get inquiries from governmental entities so it might shake something loose. And definitely change carriers when the renewal period opens. But first check to make sure the new company can provide an orthopedist and potential orthopedic surgeon.Good luck.

You mean to say that the MRI can find some people "empty headed???"

To quote Leonard " Yumpin' Yimminy" Bergstrom, who was a former boss of mine:

"I went to the doctor about my head. They made the scans and gave me good news. The didn't find anything inside."

For those who get claustrophobic, they have new "open" style MRI machines that are like a big ring rather than being enclosed.

Just a heads-up.

Yeah, I talked to the tech at the imaging lab about "open" MRIs, and he told me that it's a tradeoff. Open MRIs are far less powerful than the "tube" style, so the image is less precise (grainier and softer focus). Also, an open MRI takes about twice as long as a "tube" MRI. In my case, the lab I had mine done at doesn't offer the open style, but for people who are severely claustrophobic it would be a great option.

Don, this forum is family-friendly and it has an auto-censoring feature which changes any words in the post  which are on its "naughty" words list into BLAH_BLAH. So, nobody edited your post except for the forum software itself.

Harry, the MRI machine is so loud because it is pounding you with a very strong magnetic field.  You are basically sitting right in a center of a very powerful electromagnet. Probably much more powerful than the ones which pick up entire cars in junk yards.  When they turn on the current, it the windings make that loud noise.  They had you remove all metal objects before going into the tube, right? :)

Yes, they have you fill out a long list of any metal objects you may/may not have... stents, artificial joints, metal plates or screws of any kind, even any metal piercings! I told the tech the only metal in my body is the fillings in my teeth... so since they weren't scanning my head I was OK! :D

Just in case you didn't notice, you did  NOT change the ORIGINAL post...only what is inside the quotes in YOUR response. This feature of the software allows you to edit the quoted portion so you don't have to quote the whole damm thing, only enough to make a point.

Editing a quoted comment/post has no effect on the original. It ain't hard to grasp the following:

The auto-censor thresholds for this forum are set pretty low. You can't post whatever the hell "BLAH_BLAH_BLAH" was in its original form because it crossed that threshold setting. No human intervention was involved. EOS.

I just asked you to not reply in Big bold red caps shows anger on your part

so just leave me alone go build a model

All I'm trying to get you to see, sir, is that it's impossible to edit someone's original post. You can edit the quoted portion that appears in a reply...nothing more. Simple concept.
