Guys, a few last touches and the current project can go Under Glass.

Question:  Horns and lights on top of the cab of Custom Trucks.  I've seen pics without any on the cab.  What does the law say?  A must have, or a personal choice?

Whatcha' think?

The law states you must have 2 FCC lights on each corner of the roof. Unless it was manufactured without. So... it's kinda personal preference since law enforcement isn't gonna go through all the work of tracking down the spec sheet on trucks. Horns on the roof are optional. All the law requires is an audible warning device, either air  or electric (car horn). The trend for awhile was 4 horns, right now, it's none. Incase you were wondering, the 3 green center lights are legal on trucks, I believe it's 67 or older, it might be even older than that. There are guys runnin the green on newer trucks and haven't got hassled yet. My prefrence, is 7 lights on a Pete or KW, or none. A cabover..9 or none. No horns, ever. Now, on a build, it depends on the the look I'm going for.

That's a clear reply, thanks Clayton.  I'm leaning towards nothing on the top, because of the silvery paint, enough shiny metal is visible.

A few guys that I know that pulled the horns off the roof, but they pit them somewhere alse like under the cab. We had a set of train horns mounted underneath our sleeper just for that little extra kick. Ive also seen horns on the side of the cab above the door, and on the firewall.

Thanks Terry, that makes sense.

Train horns....I have to admit, lmao!   The tube vids crack me up.

Hey, I mounted a real loud car horn on my little Vespa scooter.  You oughta see the way the flaky drivers drop their smartphone when I give them a hoot to watch out how they drive!  Idiots.

Thanks for the input.

I love the horn blasters videos on YouTube. They are hilarious.

I miss having them on the truck. My current boss won't put them on any of his trucks.

I never had to blow them at anyone, but they were still fun to have. When I was testing them out, the valve was next to the driver seat, and I was standing on the battery box, the blast from the horn had my my pants flapping like I was in a wind tunnel. I couldnt hear for a few minutes afterwards. I also knew a guy that had the bell from the train crossing(ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding) on his Peterbilt 378 along with a set of train horns, and he still had people pull out in front of him.

Terry, funny story about the train horn.  I wouldn't want to be that close to one when it sounds off.

About drivers still pulling out in front of him....thanks for the reminder, I'd like to start a new topic about similar maneuvers.
