My worst fears realized

Harry P.

Recommended Posts

Harry, I'll just echo what everyone else has been saying. I'm truly sorry this is what's turning up and yes, do keep as much a positive attitude as possible. Interesting enough, I first saw your post while I was at the eye Doctor yesterday on my phone, but am just now able to respond as I've really gone through it with pupil dilation the past 24 hours.

Needless to say, I was shocked what I read and yes, a positive attitude truly does help in times like this. Letting your family know what's up is always a big help, and I take it that you're close to your kids. Unfortunately, closeness was never a factor in my family as I didn't find out things until the 11th hour, so I consider anyone who's close to their relatives as being truly blessed.

Keep us posted if you can............

I'm very sorry to hear this Harry. At least now you know what is wrong and can address it.  As others said, the rate of recovery is very high today, so get the very best doctors and the best hospital!

Take this very seriously.  My father died because he trivialized his cancer and used local doctors and hospitals who really weren't up to the challenge.  Find the very best and if you sense there is something amiss in your treatment, get second and third opinions.

You can and will beat this!

Just got back from a few days away and am troubled to hear your news. Based on what I've witnessed recently with a friend, the good news is I'm confident you'll beat this, so much is in your favor. The bad news is your year is gonna suck. So forge ahead, push through and move on. It's just another chapter in your story. Your family and friends will take care of you until everything's back to normal.

I can't tell you guys how much your thoughts and prayers mean to me. It sure beats going through this alone. I thank everyone who either posted their thoughts here or sent me a private PM. Even though I have never met 99% of you in person, I feel like I can call you all my friends.

Indeed you can, Harry.  Indeed you can.

To paraphrase what is said in the Masons, you are among friends and brothers, with a common goal of mutual assistance and assurance.

To that end, if you would like some help with moderation while you attend to this, I can't promise I can be here every day like I had been in the past, but I'll do my best to give you a hand. Send me an e-Mail and we'll see if we can assist each other.

I can't really add anything else that has not already been said here, but I'll reiterate that the attitude is very important.  Your body has healing powers and it can do wonderful things. I don't know you very well, but from what I've seen you seem to have a positive attitude. If you can, keep thinking positive thoughts.

Don't feel like you are on this journey alone Harry. Many here have been in your situation, either personally or with a close family member or friend, and the support that is/has/will be offered will help you in your dealing with this setback.

We haven't met, but we are fellow Chicagoans and that should count for something! As mentioned, let us know what we can do to help and I am sure you will be amazed at the outpouring of support.

Continued prayers and wishes for a complete and full recovery.

I know I'm 1 of the 99% but when hard times are happening to good people does it really matter? I hope for the best, I would say I'll put you in my prayers but I don't do that, you have however and will continue to be in my thoughts everyday. Stay strong.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, how you doing Harry ?

I begin treatment Friday. Three weeks of radiation, five days a week. Also will begin chemotherapy in pill form concurrent with radiation. Once the radiation treatments are done, chemo will ramp up (more aggressive) and will continue on an ongoing, as needed basis... assuming that I respond to the treatment, that is. The doctors all seem confident. In fact, the radiologist said I will soon be back to living a normal life. That, of course, would be the best possible outcome. But there are no guarantees. I will either respond well to treatment and beat this... or I will not. It's as simple as that. I am very scared, but to be 100% honest, I have a feeling I will beat this.
