rsxse240
So I've been in quite the builder's slump lately. My friend Jay suggested we do a sort of joint build to get things moving again. We agreed on the S13 chassis by Nissan. Mine are both Tamiya kits that used to be hard to get, but I guess there was a reissue I didn't know about. The Silvia is getting wide body treatment and the hatch will be just a clean, tastefully modded daily driver...I think. In the pics, you can see a mostly complete sr20det that I have been working on. It has been in storage for many years along with the Silvia. The wide body is mostly done on the right side, the left is getting there. The 180sx/240SX hatch has received the headlamp sleepy eye treatment using the lamps from a Fujimi kit from long ago. Hopefully I'll get these done by March! Jstfrnds
Is that the box engine or did you make it ?
rsxse240
It is completely scratch built.
Funkychiken
Scratch Building an engine is impressive! Looks better than some kit mouldings!
rsxse240
Thanks, it has a long way to go before I am happy with it.
oldcarfan
I am following what you are doing. I love the scratchbuilt engine and envy your skills.
rsxse240
Don't get too excited. I make up in skill what I lack in ability to finish a project. Lol
rsxse240
So, I am focusing on the 180sx hatch at the moment. I have some seats, brakes, intercooler and wheels. The white parts and the wheel lips are pieces that I have made resin copies of modified parts from other kits, or just copied for personal use. I used Smooth On products for casting and mold making. It's inexpensive and WAY better than Alumilite from Hobby Lobby. I have some clean up to do as my mold making isn't the best at the moment, but they clean up easily and make great parts. The wheels are from a Revellogram Civic, cut the lip off and used my resin pieces for a deeper more exotic 3piece look. The tires are Pegasus's. I hope I can find some tires a slightly larger as these look way too thin for 17" wheels.
rsxse240
Little by little, I am chiseling away at this. I have one front and one rear wheel done, though I have to narrow the front tires to fit the rim properly. I included the original wheel for comparison. I have to strip the chrome from everything and it will be receiving alclad chrome on the lips, possibly the center's as well. We shall see. rsxse240
Thank you for the encouragement! I have three more for you then I'll call it an evening. Wheels are sorted out ready for finish work and aero kit is being fit to the body. The majority of the body kit is being used from the Aoshima Kie Office S15 with a LOT of fitment corrections. So much for clean daily driver. Lol. This is how all my builds go. I know I am in the zone when they start to take off on their own like this. thank you all for the interest and encouragement. This is a good therapeutic build for me. Edited October 5, 2016 by rsxse240
JustAce
Can't wait to see more on this, 90's japanese cars are by far my favourite!
Draggon
Looks good, I like the stance
rsxse240
More work on the body kit. Cut the lower half of the bumper off. Cut off the upper half of the rear skirt from the Aoshima S15 and cut it in half so as to accommodate the size and shape of the Tamiya kit. I had a fowl up during fitment, so no after shot, just this measly progress pic. Thanks for looking!
rsxse240
So, I've been busy with real cars and stuff. I have a contest to go to in 2 weeks. Guess I better get busy. Lol Been working on the Pignose again...Not much left of the signature nostrils, but I have the bumper shaved down to fit properly. Still need to do the wheel openings, but that'll be quick...I hope Here's a mock up of the front and the roughed in rear. Made lots of progress in the last 2 days. fumi
Nice work with the body kit. The fitment is spot on.One big plus with the Tamiya kit is that it has a proper chassis; the Fujimi one has an auto box and the Aoshima one is from the S15. The only thing missing are the windshield washers.
rsxse240
A little more done tonight. Rear bumper is just about done. Shot some primer and noticed some issues with the extension I made at the wheel openings but the tag hole looks satisfactory. The front bumper wasn't quite long enough for the wheel openings to look right, so I am stretching the front valance to fit. Keep in mind this is a S15 body kit modified to fit the s13 so NOTHING fit right except the rear fender flares. Lol I even threw in a mock up of a drift scene lol. CarlBear
Great work. I like where this is heading.I have a 180sx to build next.
rsxse240
Thank you for the compliments, they're very much appreciated. It's been a while since I've built anything and it feels good to actually be progressing. I think I may go with the Broadfield style interior, for those who aren't in the 240sx scene, it's clean, high tech yet very simple. Though it's all black, I may have to change that. drive4th
badass! following this very closely, ive been wanting to build a pig nose for a while as well to complement my 90 hatchback keep it up
rsxse240
Thanks John! I unfortunately have carved off all but the tinyest bit that makes it a pignose. Lol I made more progress tonight, but nothing noteworthy. I'll get some pics of the finished bumper soon as I'm done shaping and smoothing it out. rsxse240
I got the bumper extensions roughed in and puttied this morning. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I should be in primer this evening.
James2
I'm not a big fan of tuner type cars, but I really like this kind of fabrication. Nice work.
