vintagercr Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with USPS. I am in Canada and I won two built up models from the same seller. I decided that I would have them shipped to the UPS Store in Evans Mills, NY (north of Watertown). I have done this before. Unfortunately the seller did not put the two models in one box but shipped them separately. They had their own tracking numbers. They both show that they were delivered to an agent (UPS) on the 27th. I got the one but I still have not got the other package. I have confirmed that the shipper put the proper address on the box. The UPS mgr. has been talking to the delivery person and they are supposed to be looking into it. Not sure what I need to do next. Any suggestions? It figures that it is the one that I wanted the most, AMT '65 Impala with the clear roof. Thanks in advance. Steve
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 "USPS" as in your title is United States Postal Service."UPS", as in part of your paragraph, is United Parcel Service. These ate two entirely separate and unrelated entities, and both have international shipping capabilities.Which one are you referring to?If one was shipped USPS and one was UPS, that might account for your problem.

Ace-Garageguy Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 He got them shipped top a UPS store by USPS.I didn't find sufficient information in the post to infer that. I also prefer to avoid making assumptions based on something not specifically stated. BUT...I have only had ONE problem with USPS here in the States, on well over 2000 Ebay transactions. An article marked "delivered" on the tracking-number site failed to show up for more than a week. I printed out all the tracking info available from the USPS website, went to the Post Office with it, and raised a little hell. After a couple of days, they miraculously found it on the other side of town, and it arrived on my doorstep shortly thereafter.
vintagercr Posted December 30, 2016 Author Posted December 30, 2016 Sorry, Bill if I was not clear enough. But Pat is correct. The fellow at UPS was trying to help me but I guess I will have to speak to post office directly. Steve
landman Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 And I bet Steve had his stuff sent to a UPS store on the US side instead of to his house to avoid some ridiculous "brokerage" fee UPS likes to slap on us here.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Sorry, Bill if I was not clear enough. But Pat is correct. The fellow at UPS was trying to help me but I guess I will have to speak to post office directly. SteveSorry if I misinterpreted what you meant. This time of year, USPS seems to have some problems all over.I've been waiting for a return-receipt on a critical piece of paperwork for almost two weeks since it was mailed to Texas, registered.I just checked the tracking number again and see it was finally delivered on the 28th.Interestingly (possibly) I mailed it at a UPS store that also takes USPS items (to avoid the seasonal lines at the regular PO).Maybe their respective tracking systems don't talk to each other very well.
CometMan Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 The USPS and UPS work together more than what you think. I have some coin subscriptions with the US Mint, they routinely send my packages out with their local USPS carrier, turn them over to UPS to bring it to my area, then turn them back over to the USPS to deliver them to me!! Seems very strange, but they have been doing it that way for years, I haven't had any problems.
Xingu Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 These ate two entirely separate and unrelated entities, and both have international shipping capabilities. This is not entirely true. UPS uses USPS to deliver packages (at least in my area).Steve - You will need to notify whoever had the package last and have them track it. It may very well just be sitting in a warehouse/storage facility somewhere. The tracking information we see online is not always correct.
peteski Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) Both FedEx and UPS use USPS for the final part of the delivery for certain kinds of shipments. Service like FedEx SmartPost is one such example where FedEx and USPS are both involved in the shipping process. UPS does the same thing but I don't recall the name of that service. But just lat week I have received a package which had a UPS shipping label with both UPS and USPS tracking info on it. UPDATE: I think that service is called UPS Mail Innovations Edited January 2, 2017 by peteski
vintagercr Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 Thanks for all of the feedback. It turns out the UPS store messed up. The put the package under the wrong name. Going to pick it up tomorrow. Found another place closer to the border that I'm going to try.

It's a franchise operation with each store owned and operated by independent people. I've had these stores refuse to accept UPS prepaid packages. Plus, they are allowed to charge whatever they want to ship UPS packages.

Found another place closer to the border that I'm going to try.You do know we have UPS stores in Canada. I use the one in Ajax, Ontario for my packages being shipped to me.
vintagercr Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 You do know we have UPS stores in Canada. I use the one in Ajax, Ontario for my packages being shipped to me. Doug, I know there are UPS stores in Canada. I use the the store only for eBay purchases to avoid international fees. The border is not that far from me and I can get it shipped quicker if it's shipped in the US. Sometimes shipping may be free if in the US. That's the only reason. I have used them for car parts as well. I like to go to Ollie's in Watertown as sometimes they have kits for $6.99. I got the Lindberg 1/8 dragster for $19.99. Even with the exchange it can be worth it.
Quick GMC Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I am missing 3 packages right now that were sent via USPS, with the oldest being from Gravity Colors at the end of November. I was told it shipped and i have no doubts about that, as I am missing 2 more packages that were sent from reliable vendors outside the industry.
10thumbs Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I've had so many issues with the USPS and UPS, DHL and you name it that it just stinks.Let's face it, things are not the way they used to be.Modern technology has let our lives become a daily pita.Everyday life is not easy anymore, bureaucracy has made the longing for a retired simple life unachievable. I'm almost daily amazed at the BS one has to confront from plain simple everyday transactions. Not to mention the online correspondence, or lack thereof.

peteski Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 As stated before, modern technology is destroying our simple quality of life. That is also what they said after the industrial revolution started in the 19th Century. A similar sentiment is also in a Twilight Zone episode staring Buster Keaton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time_(The_Twilight_Zone)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time_(The_Twilight_Zone)But after having mentioned that, I also feel that our lives are now way too hectic - we now have more info then ever at our fingertips (on the Internet) and we can instantly communicate with the world, but that somehow didn't make our lives easier, more relaxed, or uncomplicated - it made our lives more hectic.
