Have seen a t.v. commercial with disabled vets building model cars for therapy. They are asking for cash donations. Anyone here know how to go about donating model kits?

Somehow many of the unopened model kits I pick up in thrift stores seem to have some sort of veteran build program label on them. How effective are those programs to have veterans build models? Not very, from my experience.

I would donate cash to legitimate veterans' organizations or volunteer your time to help veterans. Contact your nearest American Legion or VFW to determine who is legitimate. The main interest of those two organizations is the welfare of veterans. They can, and will, help you to provide useful services to veterans, or donate cash to somewhere it will do some good.

Just my two cents from someone who spent 16 years punching holes in the ocean.

My local modeling club did a drive to collect kits to send to active service men and women across seas.  We have also donated to a local boys home.  This was several years ago, and the club has changed in terms of outside projects and service, so I don't recall any other details or contact info.

Another donation idea might be a children's hospital, foster home, or cub scouts.  A lot of schools might appreciate them too for an after school club or sort.

While having nothing to do with models, but everything to do about Disabled Vets, there is an off road park here in Kansas that has a fund raiser every year for the Wounded Vets. The Kansas Rocks Off Road Park has a fund raiser in February called Frost Bite. The funds are used for a summer time event where Wounded Vets get to ride along with people with off road vehicles thru the park. My wife and I intend to participate this February and also the weekend of the ride along with our Jeep Wrangler. These men and women have represented our country with Valor thru out the world, so this is the very least we can do. If this is of interest to anyone I would suggest going to their web site Kansas Rocks. Com  for any further information. I'm not affiliated with them in any way except that I pay to go off road there several times a year.

I was just looking for a constructive way to get rid of some unbuilt kits that have little monetary value.

I wasn't saying don't do it; I was saying if you were interested in helping veterans, there are better ways. It all depends on what your goal is. Again, the American Legion, VFW, DAV or other veteran service organizations will probably know who will take your donations.

Ask your local model car show if they need door prize donations.
