Mirror question

In pretty much every article or kit review, the side view mirrors are either painted silver, foiled, represented with a chrome part, or some similar treatment. I understand the goal is to make it reflective, but, to my eye, it doesn't look right. (and you certainly can't see anything reflected in it). I usually paint the mirror face gloss black, because when I look at the mirror on a real car, that's what I see. I was curious to hear other opinions on this.
