Dave Toups Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I wonder if Round 2 could re-issue the stock Harley Sportster that the thunder chopper was based on. I would imagine the tooling for it still exists since both kits were available at the same time back then. The Bronson version would be nice too, but I doubt they'd pay licensing for a TV show that isn't in reruns and very few remember.
highway Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Not a lot of interest in the kits despite what we feel. Most guys are happy to try the 1/12 ones from Revell, Bone Daddy , High Roller etc. No-one I know would build a cop bike either! Honestly in my opinion, the older kits here and another I have very similar to the reissue of the "Grim Reaper" from Revell called the "Chain Gang" (which oddly is a 1/12th scale) are more what I consider a chopper compared to the newer Revell offerings. I'm not saying the newer kits aren't nice, but for my tastes they are more a stock type bike with added "bling" than they are a chopper. I had to heavily modify the "Crusader" I have to meet my personal tastes to be a chopper. Also, though I don't know you, I would build a cop bike!
highway Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I'm not sure of all the details, but about 6 months ago at one hobby shop I go to from time to time, I seen a few police bikes on the shelves from one of the Japanese manufacturers. I'm not sure if they were the Harley or not, the only thing I clearly remember was one was CHP and another was LAPD.
krow113 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) The 'new' kits are based on exaggerated 'Harleys" and are not anywhere near to being accurate to a Harley. They are big inch S&S engines with wide tire setups. I don't know if the power train is all off set or how they got the big tire in there. I'll do some work on that series after the 1/8 stuff is done. I am skeptical they will re-issue the 1/8 bikes again. But Heller is re-issuing Yammy Trials bikes ,I used the rims and knobby tires from one for the hillclimber ,and some ex- protar Commandos are being done by Italeri , so who knows.
