Guest zebm1 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) Just an opinion of mine, but the automakers do long-term future research as to what they will be selling 5-10-15 years down the road. For the past 5 years or so the Big 3 automakers have been saying they are losing money. Where are they losing it, only in the U.S.A. where they make Pickup trucks and SUVs, intermediate cars with big motors (hemis and such). Ever wonder why? So that they can close down those production lines AND no longer have to deal with the Unions. Next question...what happens to the production equipments in those factories? They move all that stuff to countries where there are no Unions...and start producing more cars...and continue to sell them for the same prices, even as they have seriously cut their labor costs. Next question.... these NAFTA and CAFTA aggreements were supposed to protect our Unions and our Middle Class and the citizens in those other countries, but what happened,,,,those parts of the agreements weren't included......yall beginning to see where this is going? This new Trans-America highway from Mexico to Canada is designed to FINISH OFF the Teamsters next. Won't be long yall, until we be serfs working for nothing and tha Rich Elitetists will have things once again, just like it was back in tha Roaring 20s.....until the next Stock market crash, but by that time, all of the Rich will be living somewhere else than America....yall gotta remember...money don't care where it lives, as long as money can continue to live in the style they believe they are "Entitled Too." Hmmmm, don't tha Neo-cons have this mantra..that entitlements are BAD and UNFAIR for this Country? Ya know, it might be time for us Liberals to explore another seccessionist movement and let tha Conservatives live off their own taxes for a change. Edited June 9, 2008 by zebm1
Harold Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 harrypri said: How much longer can our government bilk its citizens? I'll take "As Long As We Have An Uninformed Electorate" for a thousand, Alec. When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost... All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.' The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. H. L. Mencken, Baltimore Sun (26 July 1920)
