Not Paying Photo Bucket Post Pictures

Recommended Posts

I just realized another horrible problem to my idea, because I actually began to try to restore the pics for one thread. I could see the pics through Photobucket after right clicking where the pic used to be in the thread, but that won't help because I forgot there would be no way to edit the post to upload and insert the pictures! :(

What we COULD do would be to start a new thread, title it "REPOST OF HARRY'S (whatever subject)" and copy / paste his text, inserting the photos in the right places.

Yeah, a hell of a lot of work, but possible.

I am still preferring (free) Flickr.

Don't really care that PB has locked my images since I keep them all backed up locally.

Anyone that wants to see images from posts I have made can let me know, then I will fix them through Flickr

For Harry's threads...

Moderators have rights to edit anyone's threads.  Can they put a new password on Harry's account,  or create a special Moderator ID that can go in and insert the photos into the threads?

It seems like a daunting task, but note that NNL East is a ton of work and happens because there are 40 people involved.  This can be a similar effort. If we each take a few threads, we could do this in no time at all.  I think time is of the essence, because we don't know what P-bucket's next step is. The pictures could be gone completely if we don't act!

And I'd be honored to help with this effort.

Those of you recommending and fleeing to Imgur might just want to read the fine print...

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

YOU ALL BETTER CHECK YOUR DOWNLOADS FROM PHOTOBUCKET, IF YOU REMOVE YOUR FILES FROM THAT POS PLACE.

I JUST DID A TEST DOWNLOAD OF ONE ALBUM TO BEGIN RELOADING ONTO THIS SITE, AND THE PHOTOS ARE SQUASHED WHEN YOU OPEN THEM. UNUSABLE.

I Noticed that myself. Mnetioned it in the other post I believe.

They do not display properly in the Windows photo viewer (Windows7 PICTURES LIBRARY) but appear to display properly when uploaded here. The odd image compression in "Pictures Library" makes it difficult to identify exactly what image you want prior to uploading here.

The "copy image" function is also disabled, and if you try to save an image to your own drive as a jpeg, it gets the odd vertical compression too.

THIS IS NEW. THE PBUCKET SITE DIDN'T USED TO WORK THAT WAY.

Obviously, some real effort went into trying to FORCE less computer literate folks, or those who don't have their own backup files, to pay the ransom.

BE CAREFUL IF YOU DECIDE TO DELETE THE VERTICALLY COMPRESSED PHOTOS DOWNLOADED FROM PHOTOBUCKET... EVEN IF YOU HAVE BACKUPS ELSEWHERE ON YOUR DRIVE.

The files you download from PB are still labeled with the file number that your camera or image processing program assigned to them when they were shot, most likely. If you look at them in your computer's photo viewer, see they're oddly distorted, so decide to delete them because you have backups elsewhere on your drive, your computer MAY NOT REALIZE YOU ONLY WANT TO DELETE THE DOWNLOADED FILES. It MAY delete EVERY file with that file number, and your other backups will be gone too.

I've experienced the problem in the past and it wasn't just with Win 7 either. It did it to me on Vista 64 bit. I actually have my phoos backed up in memory cards so if it deletes them its not an issue. Plus I have a 1T back up drive with copies of it all. Redunancy at its finest....lol. Now I am on Win 7. Laptop is on Win 10. Maybe I should see if Win 10 will open them correctly.

I want to see if I can resize the photos with something back to normal. May work, may not. Just have to see.

I have a 1T backup drive as well. It only runs once a week, and if I inadvertently delete something I need, the image it forms of the machine when it runs will mirror the deleted version, and the file will be lost.

It's a VERY good idea to have photos and other critical files stored on separate removable media, and that's something I should be much more diligent about.

Thanks for the reminder. Redundancy is good...especially when it comes to data storage.

Paul and BIll... I have had the same thing happen to me in the past where downloading a pic from Phtotobucket it opens up squished. I found that if you open that file up in Photoshop and just save it, Probably will have to do save as... but just use the same file name it fixes it from being squished. Strange but weird. For giggles I just downloaded my funny car album to see how much space they took up on PB (it ended up being 1.4GB) so I am probably going to be moving all of my pictures over to Fotki but I didn't want to have re link all of the pics to the funny car. That would take way too long but the 1.4 GB size will be under the 2.0 GB free account storage space. Not really worried if I lose any pics from Photobucket since I have all of them on my hard drive and on a back up drive.  As mentioned before I am on the Plus20 which gives 20 GB, but will down grade my pay account. so hopefully  being under the 2 gb limit they won't pull the crapola of not being able to see the pics. Guess in time I will find out. I need to see when my renewal is up with them and have pics  moved by then.

Hi,

Interesting, all the VFX/graphic artists I work with have been suggesting that site as well.  Nice post.

I'll have to finally give it a ponder.

If you can figure out how to resister an account, please be so kind as to let us all know how too...in comprehensible English if at all possible.

I've found something that "answers" the question, but it seems to be very circular and doesn't give noobs any real specifics...or maybe I'm just stupid.

Hi,

I'll post by end of the 4th for sure.

And as a bonus, in simple, comprehensive Anglowski :)

Registration to Servimg

Registration is required to use the service, you must create one in order to store images.
A tool has been developed to create an account on Servimg from your forum. This tool creates an account using the mail and password you use on the forum. There is no risk with security and you can use this tool without fear for your forums.
From the moment Servimg or your account is established it is not attached to your account on the forum. This means that any change password or email in the forum will not change your account Servimg.

If for security reasons you do not want to use this tool, you can create an account manually on the site of Servimg. We advise you in this case to use the same e-mail address as the one of your forum as you will no longer have the window asking you the password for the import of the account.

Once you have an account you can host images on it. These images will be accessible only by the creator of the account, the founder and other members of the forum will not be able to access your account Servimg.

For the administration part, registration is slightly different and more automated. As soon as you go to the image
hosting part of the admin panel or an admin opens the popup Image Hosting, an account is created automatically.
This account is using email and password of the founder of the forum. From that moment the images will be hosted on the account Servimg the founder of the forum itself will have access to these images and his account Servimg.
If the founder or any other administrator does not wish to use this account, they can choose which account Servimg use for the administration part from the "image hosting" panel.
To change the account you have to return another account Servimg valid. You can also choose which category Servimg to use on the images of admins.

What forum? This is the part I find incomprehensible and circular.

They keep saying "from your forum" and I'm too stupid to understand WHAT forum they're talking about.

Do you have to set up a Forumotion forum to be able to use the service?

Like I said...I'm stupid.

Yes, you have to register with Forumotion. This includes setting up a forum there. It's free but you need to do it in order to complete your registration. Then you need to login to Servimg.com with your Forumotion i.d. and password. Lovely...

So...with a free forum, and free image hosting, I have to wonder where their income stream is to be able to pay for servers, power to run them, and IT guys to keep it all working.

And how long before they implode if they're overwhelmed by legions of freeloaders jumping ship from Peebucket?

Hasn't happened to me yet. Are they charging based on the amount of pictures you have on there? I only have about 25 pictures on their site and have never been impressed with the setup. Anytime I go, my computer seems to slow down almost to the point that it reminds me of dial up. I'll either switch over to something else, or simply quit posting pictures. Same thing with Facebook. If they ever start charging, I'll simply quit using it. It's not a lifestyle, it's a convenience and a convenience I could easily do without.

Since the admins here graciously opened up the ability to freely upload photos here, directly to the posts (without limits), why are we looking for a 3rd party photo hosts?  The best way to make sure the photos stay with the thread for as long as the thread (and the forum) are up and online is to have the photos hosted locally on the forum.
