Corvette Grand Sport C7 - July 31 - final stretch update

I love the new Corvette C7 with only a few things I don't like, like the odd non-Vette taillights, do not like them, but I'll accept them.

Looking at the new Grand Sport Editions released earlier this year, one is especially special, the Heritage Edition. A reverse color combo, white body, blue stripe and red fender hashmarks. I'm in love with this color combo, so here I am building one from the Revell Snaptite 2014 Corvette.

The Grand Sport (GS) and Z06 have a few body differences from the stock Vette. One is the rear wells are flared 4-inches for wider tires and the rocker-air-ducts located in front of the flares. Also different is the side vents have a unique trim design for GS and different for Z06.

First had to cut out the stock wheel well edges to maintain the marker lights, fairly easy to do and added the air-ducts detail

Excellent work on those rear fender flares! That's a clever idea to cut out the side marker lights first, and then fair them back in to keep the original shape. ;)

I'll be watching this one! I still haven't quite warmed up to the latest 'Vette even though it's a very nice car. Something about it seems off, and I think it's the loss of the round taillights as you mentioned.

I can almost bet that they'll be round again someday!

Bodywork looks great; love the Grand Sport.

Did you know that Plamoz makes the correct wheels for it? They're "Cup" wheels that they made for the C6, but they're appropriate for the C7 as well. Your model is coming along so well I think it's worth the expense. I've used Plamoz wheels, no problem ordering from them and great quality.

Bob what do you recommend for tires on these wheels?

The kit tires. BUT...cut off the oversized diecast-like "paddles" around the rim intended to hold the tire in place. If you try to take a tire off, guess what happens to those thin resin spokes? Yet one more reason I dislike the "diecastification" of our plastic kits. You might also want to wrap some thin tape around the rim so that the tread area doesn't go hollow when installed.

Maisto is supposed to have a 1/24 Grand Sport coming, but all photos show it w/the Z06 wheels.

Excellent, thanks for the link, had no idea these wheels were being made. I decided to order a set from Plamoz, thanks again Bob for the link, these wheels will be perfect for my build.

Thanks for the nice comments, having fun with this build.

Did a little more over the weekend, Polished the paint, some detail painting and worked on the wheels a bit. (Decided to not "create" my own wheels as in the picture and ordered proper GS style Cup Style wheels from Plamoz pictued above)

The paint looks great. What colors/brand did you use?

Thanks, it really has turned out nice, especially for a white paint job. I'm not a purist builder, so I just looked through what I had ready to spray, this started out as a simple tribute build. Paint is all Duplicolor - Polar Artic White - Electron Blue - Electric Red, lots of clear polished out.

Excellent work on the conversions necessary to bring the body up to Grand Sport/Z06 spec.

Also thanks for the heads up on Plamoz. Several things in their inventory that I need for various Vette projects
