Super28 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 What do you use to make windows , headlights, windshields?
Miatatom Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) I thought you were talking about making plastic clear. Never mind. Edited July 18, 2017 by Miatatom
BigTallDad Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Blister paks, CD jewel cases, or you can buy it at a hobby shop or online.
Ramfins59 Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 For straight glass pieces you can use clear acetate from the tops of boxes of greeting cards.
Mooneyzs Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I use Acetate when I need to make a window. you can get a pretty big sheet at Hobby Lobby and the price wasn't too bad for it either.
Snake45 Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Blister paks, CD jewel cases, or you can buy it at a hobby shop or online. All those and more. Clear plastic is everywhere if you watch for it. Last month I discovered that the bottles from my cheap mouthwash have just the right amount of curve to make LOVELY side glass for a number of models.
Greg Wann Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 You might try transparencies from a office supply store. These are used in printers. Then the printed material is set on a overhead projector. Probably somewhat outdated materials. My wife used to teach kids.
Maindrian Pace Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) I use PETG, I buy it in 4'x6' rolls. Edited July 22, 2017 by Maindrian Pace
Deathgoblin Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Acetate/blister packs for windows, and either clear epoxy or Bondic for small parts like head light/tail light lenses.
peteski Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Acetate/blister packs for windows, and either clear epoxy or Bondic for small parts like head light/tail light lenses.I think we use the name "Acetate" like "Kleenex" is used to describe facial tissues. I don't think that actual Acetate has been used by hobbyists for the last 40 years or longer. The clear films we use nowadays are Polystyrene, PET, PETG, Acrylic, Lexan and few others. While they are all transparent, they are much more stable than Acetate.
