Spectacular in every detail. I have a Franklin Mint cabriolet die cast that's very nice, but nothing close to what you've done.

Beautiful model of a beautiful car, probably the one that Luigi Chinetti owned (also a Touring body).

IMO the most breathtaking Touring body for the 8C 2900B was this one, originally delivered to an American buyer:

A beautiful replica of a beautiful automobile. Incredible conversion and world class workmanship as always.

Absolutely Jürgen, stunning as always!

By the way, do you know the color of the Mille Miglia 1947 winner? It is the same Alfa Romeo - I have seen models in red, dark red and a dark grey-blue...

I would like to convert a Leo 2900 into this one.

Helmut, I reviewed my books and magazines, but I only found some of those b/w pictures shown on the web.

On all these pictures the paintwork of #230 appears rather dark compared against the tires. IMO this makes a bright red paintwork unlikely, and even in the wild early post-war years grey-blue on an Alfa racing car seems not very plausible.

An undated painting of #230 found on the web shows a burgundy paintwork. Burgundy would be my personal assumption, too.

Provided that every diecast manufacturer does some research before choosing his paintworks all these very different colours suggest the assumption that there is no solid knowledge about the paintwork of #230 at all.

Thanks, Jürgen, dark red is also what I thought that it probably was - I have also seen the painting you mentioned and I think this is the way to go.

Hello Jürgen,

Thank you for sharing your beautiful work on the Leo Models 8C 2900! You've inspired me to give it a try as well. Doing some research, I found these were offered in the Whitebox line, painted black (as you found) and also in the Hachette line, painted blue like the full size example #41029 at the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo. These models are difficult to come by in the U.S. but can be found doing an ebay worldwide search. I managed to pick up two of Hachette branded versions recently, one from Netherlands and a second one from Italy. They sat in Customs for several weeks but eventually made it to me safe and and sound. :)

Jürgen, one thing I'm still working out is how to replace the Superleggera script and the 'Carrozzeria Touring Milano' badges after repainting. The existing ones on the models look great, like they were pad printed. To replace them, I suppose one possibility is to simply reduce digital photos of the full size articles and print them on clear decal film. What are your thoughts on this? Any ideas? Thanks,

-TIM-

A truly lovely model of a beautifully styled  Alfa Romeo motor car.

Some diecasts are the only option for some cars.

The Bugatti Atlantic by Burago is a good example that could be made into a nice little 1/24th scale model with some reworking and replacing the wire wheels and tyres.
